    Network setup

Yes if you have mixed Linux and Windows machines on the network, you need Samba on the Linux boxes. I more or less know to set ICS and Samba with ML9.1 and with Win98 boxes on the network. I have no experience if there is at least one NT and worse a XP box. I know it can be more complicate as NT or XP will try to be the network master. I Don't exatly what it means but you may have to change Samba default setting if you want the Linux box to stay the master. Here are some post that can answer some of your questions: http://www.mandrakeusers.org/index.php?showtopic=7584 http://www.mandrakeusers.org/index.php?showtopic=9046 Hope this help roland

  3. I had the same problem with ML10.0. Worked with 9.2. I was unable to make it work so far. I gave up now. I don't know if this issue was signaled in bugzilla as I currently don't have time to waste on a so unpractical tool.
  4. Sorry I reply my own post ... SOLVED ! I've just replaced the sound driver OSS / i810_audio by ALSA / snd_intel8x0 Thanks roland B)
  5. Hi, Since I've installed ML10.0, music plays too fast on my box. XMMS, K3B mp3 player: same. Somebody else noticed this ? where does it come from ? Didn't find this issue in this forum. Thanks for any info. Even info like "it plays fine with me" interest me.
  6. ... or put it 1 mn on the microwave for a better result

    LinuxBios

if you pull out the battery the bios reset to default setting. It clears only the data, _not_ the code. The code is read only (rom/flash)

    LinuxBios

Woa, looks interesting! 2 things come to my mind seeing this: - must be good thing to have just in case, with all those TCPA, Palladium and "trusted" computer coming no ? - does the pc starts directly 32 bit ? Ok i didn't RTFM but if everybody RTFM no need for any forum isn't it
  9. Nothing new for me. my son is 5 and use linux since he is 4. Well, not really use it, play with it is more accurate. Play games, but also he likes to put a mess in his /home. He likes to change the color of the desktop's background and throw all the icons in the bin. M$ Win or Linux he don't care. Me I do care: I would never let him play alone on Win98 In fact it's the same with my 2 daughters: 10 and 11. They have all there very, but very secret password for there /home and all like to mess with it even more than there room :D
  10. like you said plus: an upgrade that works well.
  11. Nice  I going to send this to my address book.
  12. Ah ok. Matrix 2, Terminator III: me late: have to update.

  14. That's it .... it seems HOSTNAME= must be in capital letter. Thanks :) (merovingian: I wonder how a non French/Belgian can know this word but well...)
  15. Hello, How to set the machine name on 10.0 CE ? On 9.2 it was in Drakconnect, on 9.1 I had found the configuration file but in 10.0, I can't find it. Someone ? thanks
  16. Yeah, I don't know why but it seems there is a lot of bad mirrors for 10.0CE. Try a dutch one: they are generally good
  17. It seems tha bugzilla is not the right place to go see link
  18. ???? I'm confused now. thanks for the link.
  19. I add a comment and voted for #8452 I would vote for this one but didn't found it: I'm not used with bugzilla
  20. Well I'm sure it's usable. But the first impression is that it's not practical. I find an embedded google search engine like wikipedia do would be much better. Well I know easier to ask than to do :D yeah this message was getting on my nerves too. edit: thanks for the link. look interesting. wow 5415 post for this month ! they can deal with all that ?
  21. I personally find bugzilla not practical at all notably the search engine. Yesterday I spent half an hour just to see if a little bug on RpmDrake (the hourglass mouse pointer (a clock) that is not displayed correctly), but I couldn't find it. But I would be surprised if it was not already reported. Ok I'm not experienced with bugzilla but half an hour for no result is way too much. Why don't they use a search engine a la google ? I work in a company that makes software (M$ Win :( ) In my experience, noobies are very good to find bug (with experienced people it always work or the bug is so easy for them to turn around that they don't even notice). So better make it friendly for noobies imho.
  22. [ He ho vous devriez pas poster dans plusieurs thread a la x ! bon je traduit quand meme, j'enleve juste le pitiƩ si vous le permettez: pas de pitiƩ ! ] Something new, in fact I have access to my external disk if I plug it after I'm on kde. But a big problem remains: it needs 20 seconds to have acces to the disk, then 10s to read a file !!!!!! for usb 2 it's not impressive ... help help please P.S: gowator:
  23. Hi, I've never installed Linux on a laptop but I've heard more often of problems installing Linux on a laptop than in a Desktop. One reason is probably that a laptop is more likely to have stuff like wireless, pcmcia, winmodem, flat screen that are often a cause of trouble with Linux, at least as long as a driver is not made ( contrary to M$ Win, manufacturers generally don't provide drivers for Linux )
  24. I think the answer is there link
  25. Nothing new, this link was posted in this board a while ago. But it's good that the maximum of people be aware of this. When I speak of that to people around me that interest them, they don't like it and a lot say that they are going to switch to Linux because of that. It can be a good thing: If everybody is forced to pay for all the M$ stuff they have in there box, M$ is going to earn even more money but hopefully, its market share may decrease as more people is going to switch to Linux. Also, I think that any serious company may understand that to lock this way a file in a proprietary format is going to be very dangerous. If I understand well, imo it's a all or nothing business for M$: either they have enough control of the market now and then people is going to be completely locked with there product, either they are going to lose there total market control. That's a race: will Linux be friendly enough and ready when Longhorn be out ? But what is worrying is that I'm sure M$, malicious as it is, is going to do it soft. They are not going to lock or erase any "untrusted" stuff in one day. It is going do be done in several years and one day, you wake up and realise you are completely locked.
