  1. Now I still get failed dependancies for libmusicbrainz.so.4 and kommander-3.2.3-1mdk.rpm Shouldn't the kommander one be in the release if its needed! I cant find a kommander rpm (only quanta-kommander) or a libmusicbrainz mandrake rpm anywhere! Can anyone help?
  2. Thanks, but my repository only has KDE 3.2 rpms (as it seems yours does). I would like to try and get 3.2.3. I have found a mirror with the rpms. What command do I use? rpm -Fvh ftp://mirror_directory gets dependancy errors for files that are in that directory. I dont want to use -U coz it will install a whole heap of languages I dont need. What about rpm -Fvh --aid ftp://mirror_directory ?? Is this right? Also, how do I get it to cache the downloads? Every time I try to do it and get dependancy errors, I have to download the WHOLE lot again! :(
  3. I recently ran Mandrake Update which updated some KDE 3.2 packages for me. However now KDE is segfaulting all over the place. (This is the second time I've done this post because of one such segfault). I figure the best way to fix the problem is to upgrade to the latest version for which rpms, which as far as I know is 3.2.2 How do I go about upgrading? Do I just download the RPMS, or do I remove the old packages first? Any info is much appreciated. Thanks Floyd
  4. OK, when MDK 10 Community came out it was said that when Official came out we could upgrade to it... How do we do that? Are the CE software mirrors not being updated anymore now? ie. If you are up to date on the community mirrors, you are updated to official edition? If this is the case, do I just add a CE urpmi source for Main, Contrib and PLF, then do urpmi --auto --auto-select Then change my urpmi sources to the MDK10 Official ones?
  5. First of all, huge thanks for the detailed reply Windependent :D A couple of things I guess I should have mentioned initially. Firstly, the other computers on my network are operated by trusted family members :). Secondly, each computer is individually secured by a firewall (zonealarm for the XPs, Mandrake Firewall (shorewall?) for me). The XP machines passed the tests you linked, my machine kinda did but some ports were closed instead of blocked (stealthed). Not sure how to fix that yet. However, in this configuration SMB does not work. I have to relax all the firewalls to allow it to work, hence my question. Given your reply, it is clear to me now that communication between the machines aint gonna happen securely in my current network setup, and by relaxing those firewalls to use SMB, well, it seems that was pretty stupid I'll be heading out ASAP to pick up a router/firewall, you are right, it seems stupid not to pick one of these up when it will increase security and simplify network maintenance, especially now that they are so cheap. Hopefully your explanation will also help others. Thanks Floyd
  6. I have 3 computers in my home network, mine is running Mandrake 10 CE, the others are running winXP. They are all connected to a switch. There is a cable modem connected to this switch. All the computers have their own cable login, so a router or internet connection sharing isn't required. I want to access file and printers on the winXP machines with my Linux machine. Firstly, I want to ask, is this safe? By using SMB on this network, am I opening it up to the outside world? Secondly, if it is safe, how can I do it securely? With Mandrake Firewall turned on, I cant access any shares on the other computers, how can I setup MNF to make SMB work? Thanks Floyd
  7. OK, I've added the cooker Main and Contrib servers, but how to I perform an update? If I disable my previous empty MDK10 update sources and do Mandrake Update, it says I have no update sources enabled. So, how do I update the packages that are already on my machine from the Cooker servers?
  8. Hi, I have added 3 update servers to urpmi using easyurpmi, but when I get into Mandrake Update, it says there are no updates available! Surely this isnt the case. When I installed 9.2 Mandrake update immediately had about 50 megs of updates to install, and considering this is the 10.0 community version, I was expecting about the same. Am I doing something wrong?
