  1. what graphics card? Are you using Compiz? I think this is a known bug, just checking...
  2. Well, can you unload it? modprobe -r ipv6
  3. Did you disable 3D desktop again before trying to get fglrx working?
  4. Best thing to do would be to try the new version. 2008 came out a few days ago :) http://www.mandriva.com/en/download.html
  5. I haven't checked contrib_updates. I'll look at it tomorrow. If you're using full hdlist try using synthesis hdlist, and vice versa.
  6. For more information, all you need to do is set up the official repositories, following the instructions at: http://wiki.mandriva.com/en/Docs/Basic_tas...tions_available then run the graphics card configuration tool and re-select your card. It will ask if you want to use the proprietary driver. Tell it you do, and it will download, install and configure it. Then just restart.
  7. what's the URL for the download stats, John? I'd like to keep an eye on them. BTW, we've cleared over 15,000 downloads of 2008 since release via the official torrents alone. That's not counting mirror downloads and unofficial torrents.

    install "make"

Yep. You do not need to be compiling anything to get your card to work. Just go to the network configuration tool and it should ask you for a Windows driver to extract firmware from. Feed it a Windows driver. If you don't have one, feed it this: http://linuxwireless.org/en/users/Drivers/b43#devicefirmware (well, the page is down as I write this, but it's usually up - download the version 3.xx driver, filename wl_apsta.o , and feed that to the network configuration tool). Then just set the usual configuration options for your card, and it should pop right up working.
  9. Brian: can you run this command as root at a console: monitor-edid --MonitorsDB and paste the output here? I can then get it added to the detection database for future releases.
  10. 'Fixed' is not a font. It's a standard alias which can point to a variety of real fonts depending on configuration issues. So you need to explain (or show screenshots of) exactly what you *expect* to see, and what you see instead at present. thanks!

    remote control

also note that there's no lirc modules in the 2008 kernels. You have to install lirc-kernel-desktop-latest .
  12. I haven't used Opera lately...does it have font configuration options? If so, what are they set to at the moment?
  13. you might like to try downloading it via the public torrent - pointing it at the existing file - and see if it thinks it's correct, or if it changes the file. bittorrent has its own hashing mechanism built in, so it's a useful cross-check.
  14. The relbits stuff is there because of http://qa.mandriva.com/show_bug.cgi?id=32905 . Basically, without it, a bunch keyboards have quite a lot of keys not working at all.
  15. Well, it happens to someone in Ubuntu :) https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/l....22/+bug/133146 I suspect it only happens with recent kernels. What Ubuntu were you using? If Feisty, maybe that's why. It seems to be just warning you of some mistakes in your system's BIOS ACPI implementation. I don't think it's a big issue, but as that bug report says, you may want to try upgrading your laptop's BIOS to the latest version available.
  16. Saw this on Cooker ML relating to multimedia keys: "kmilo is not installed by default anymore. It was coming with klaptop. I think it's the reason why multimedia keys are not supported under KDE." so try installing that.
  17. If you do an upgrade from the Free edition, any non-free packages won't get upgraded. My *personal* preference would be to do an upgrade network install, following the instructions at http://wiki.mandriva.com/en/Docs/Installin...or_the_Internet , selecting the upgrade option. That would use a non-free repository and so the non-free packages should be updated. I'm not sure if anyone's actually tested that the NVIDIA drivers are correctly updated when you do an upgrade from 2007.1 to 2008, though - the packaging of them did change somewhat. I think it should work. If not it wouldn't be too hard to fix.
  18. What distro are you running at the moment? Some versions of ktorrent are, er, not very good. If you're on an earlier Mandriva release, get the latest ktorrent from the /backports repositories for that release, it's a lot better. Or just use Azureus or something.
  19. What errors are you getting from the mirrors exactly? I can't tell what's wrong without precise error messages. Thanks.
  20. Right, cool. We can't include those fonts in the distro itself, even the non-free editions, as Microsoft's license on them does not allow it.
  21. John, the mini CD basically installs (via the traditional installer, it's not a live hybrid like One) a minimal functioning system (with X and a very basic IceWM desktop, and the Mandriva tools). It's intended for people who like to customize their installation - the idea is you install from the mini CD and then add on the packages you want via urpmi. As Scarecrow said, the single CD contains both i586 and x86-64 versions, so you can see how small they are :)
  22. A final message on the NOKEY issue: all mirrors in the official list are now okay with the sole exception of ftp.cica.es. Any other mirror proposed by the Mandriva repository configuration tools should now be okay. As mentioned in the previous message, if you have already set up your repositories and are encountering the NOKEY issue, you will need to either run ‘urpmi.update -a –force-key’ as root or remove and re-add your repositories to stop the errors from showing up in future. Once again, we’re sorry for this inconvenience.
  23. Yep. proprietary = non-free. There is a copy of the ATI proprietary driver packaged in the Mandriva non-free repository which is packaged to work correctly with Mandriva. This is the same driver you would download from ATI's site. :)
  24. Was the monitor detected as an AL1716W by Mandriva?
