downloaded it - installed it - how do I find you guys to add to it?
-
It's only because I use a distro that isn't based on either rpms or debs. I suppose I could use rpmunpack but there doesn't seem a compelling reason to bother in this case. The only other time I've had to use rpmunpack is for the ATI drivers - but that's not necessary anymore. So I don't seem to be struggling as a result of not using rpms or debs...
-
It's only available as a deb or rpm, so I don;t imagine I'll be installing it any time soon...

I'm trying to encrypt a string that will be passed as a parameter on the end of a url. I started off using DES as my encryption method, but my string came back with URL "unsafe" characters such as % which will be interpreted as something else... Can anyone suggest an encryption method that will return something more useful?

In order to run fglrxconfig you will need to know your monitor refresh rates and things like that - so have your monitor docs handy...

Thanks for that ramfree. No one else have any experience of either of these?

Yes - you do need to add the bin directory of your java install to the path. The easiest way of doing this is to add "export PATH=$PATH:<path to java install>/bin" to your .bashrc Edit: you'll need to log out and back in to see the changes to your path...

I want to be able to keep my /home directory on my laptop and desktop synced so that they are, essentially, identical. I want to try and set it up so that whenever I log into either machine it tries to perform a sync with the other. If it can't, it'll fail gracefully and proceed to log me in, but if it can then, obviously, it will. Having looked at various threads on this board (including one I started - I wish I could remember which tool I ended up using then!) loads of people are talknig about either rsync or unison. So - what I want to know is: which should I use?

no no! we weren't discussing religion in here! It's just ancient greek - completely different thing! ahem...

hence the fact that, since Ix is a Christian (and the way he responded to it), that's probably how he would understand the phrase...

So "In the begining, there was the word" is probably a fair translation - and probably what Ix means...

Arch PKGBUILD (for anyone who is interested...): pkgname=baobab pkgver=1.0.1 pkgrel=1 pkgdesc="Baobab is a C/gtk+ application to analyse directory trees in any Gnome environment" url="http://www.marzocca.net/linux/baobab.html" license="GPL" depends=('gtk2' 'pango') makedepends=('gtk2' 'pango') conflicts=() replaces=() backup=() install= source=(http://www.marzocca.net/linux/downloads/$pkgname-$pkgver.tar.gz) md5sums=('95b80314f519b368427b320e5dd4733d') build() { cd $startdir/src/$pkgname-$pkgver ./configure --prefix=/usr make || return 1 make DESTDIR=$startdir/pkg install } I'm going to try and get this into aur sometime this week, so arch users please feel free to vote for it ;)

yeah - I got that working - cool. OK - confession time. The game I had was for the Amstrad CPC, but I figured that dosbox was probably more stable than the cpc emulator that I've got... BUT - the bard that comes in the default party had a fire horn in the CPC version and this one doesn't  So, unless I can figure out a way of creating a party in one game and then using it in the other, I think I'll be going back to the CPC...

I've discovered a MS-Dos download of Bard's Tale (I do have a copy of the game somewhere) and I immediately thought about trying to get it to play in dosbox. The file is here When I try and run the file, dosbox says that it can't run this exe in dos mode - even though it's a dos game! I realise that dosbox can't run everything - but I wondered if it's possible to get this running - I used to love this game...

It is really easy to install - unfortuantely it's not currently compatible with ATI cards (if you have one of the features it relies on activated in X ( I forget exactly which one) then it deactivates dri... If you follow the instructions here then it's a pretty straightforward install

I must admit that it's largely the cool factor that's attracting me - but I will aonly really appreciate the advantage (if there is one ;) ) once I've used it for a while...

Might have found what I've been looking for (in your face Bono!): Project Looking Glass

Having said that - I actually don;t really use virtual desktops so I'm guessing this isn't for me. :( Any other suggestions? The app I linked to is very cool on windows XP - I'd love something similar on Linux...

novelty value is what I want - it's just the cool factor! :D

Is anyone aware of a linux equivalent to this?

Can anyone provide me with a reliable link for enemy territory? I've used the one from the official website for 2.60 twice and consistently get the same (but wrong) md5s...

Simple answer is absolutely! You just need to partition the drives to reflect what you need and then point your mount points to the relevant partition. For example: if your second drive is /dev/hdb then you mount /home to /dev/hdb You can also create a partition of whatever siae for windows - although you'll need to install it first as it doesn't like being installed alongside another OS I think the Mandriva installer has al lthe tools you need if you install in "expert" mode.

arts is runng and I've killed everything that I thought might be using the soundcard. snd-pcm-oss is loaded... Still the same error. How can I find out if anything else is using the soundcard...?
