      Mandriva Official Documentation

Official documentation for extant versions of Mandriva can be found at doc.mandriva.com.   Documentation for the latest release may take some time to appear there. You can install all the manuals from the main repository if you have Mandriva installed - files are prefixed mandriva-doc.

      Forum software upgrade   10/29/17

So you may have noticed the forum software has upgraded !!!
A few things that have changed. We no longer have community blogs (was never really used) We no longer have a portal page.
We can discuss this, and decide whether it is needed (It costs money) See this thread: Here

  1. Alternative to Quicken

Also, I forgot to mention that Quicken (most versions) can be run from Linux using Crossover Office http://www.codeweavers.com/ if you find that you simply like Quicken better than the Linux alternatives.
  2. Show off your Desktop (October 2005)

I wish Fluffy was mine. He is the cutest dog I've ever seen. I discovered this picture while looking around at blogs and someone had found it on the internet and wanted to share it. You can get it from here http://thisisfluffy.ytmnd.com/ This is what you get when you google Fluffy apparently he is popular http://www.google.com/search?q=%22This+is+...n-US:unofficial
  3. Show off your Desktop (October 2005)

My latest screenshot which includes my favorite picture that I am using for a wallpaper.
  4. Alternative to Quicken

You should check out KMyMoney. It has matured so much and I really find it useful. I use it as a replacement for Microsoft Money.
  5. Firefox crashes when trying to open

I would like to thank everyone who tried to help me. I ended up just creating a new user account for myself and moving over most of the stuff and settings and running: chown -R myself:myself /home/myself/ It worked like a dream. I would have just deleted the .mozilla but lots of other things were having problems so........this seemed like the best option.
  6. Firefox crashes when trying to open

    I tried that first: [heather@applwibas02-l10-1025 heather]$ firefox -profilemanager bash: firefox: command not found [heather@applwibas02-l10-1025 heather]$ mozilla-firefox -profilemanager (Gecko:4790): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_object_unref: assertion `G_IS_OBJECT (object)' failed /usr/lib/mozilla-firefox-1.0.4/run-mozilla.sh: line 451: 4790 Segmentation fault "$prog" ${1+"$@"} but it said command not found so I tried mozilla-firefox instead.
  7. Firefox crashes when trying to open

I can open it if I am in my roommates acct. and I su heather and open it that way so I didn't think it was the profile and also I am having crashing problems with Thunderbird as well. But I tried mozilla-firefox -profile manager and got this: [heather@applwibas02-l10-1025 heather]$ firefox -profilemanager bash: firefox: command not found [heather@applwibas02-l10-1025 heather]$ mozilla-firefox -profilemanager (Gecko:4790): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_object_unref: assertion `G_IS_OBJECT (object)' failed /usr/lib/mozilla-firefox-1.0.4/run-mozilla.sh: line 451: 4790 Segmentation fault "$prog" ${1+"$@"} I even tried reinstalling since I had .9 instead of .91(PCLinuxOS) but that didn't help either. I am going insane trying to figure this out Oh, I should add that I know it is 1.0.4 but I just reinstalled and haven't gotten to get my updates yet and this happened with 1.0.7 before I reinstalled.
  8. Firefox crashes when trying to open

Update: It seems that Thunderbird is crashing now too. At least it opens though it crashes if I try and do anything.
  9. Firefox crashes when trying to open

I just got some updates and now I can't seem to get Firefox to open. It works fine from another user account just not mine. I tried to launch it from a terminal and this is what I get (sorry it's so long) (gnome-font-properties:6942): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_object_unref: assertion `G_IS_OBJECT (object)' failed This probably reflects a bug in the program. The error was 'BadPixmap (invalid Pixmap parameter)'. (Details: serial 2017 error_code 4 request_code 55 minor_code 0) (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously; that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it. To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.) It looks like a Gnome problem so I opened up gnome-control-center and tried changing the theme/icons but nothing helped. I also looked into the Fonts but everything looked good. I also tried deleting the .metacity folder but that didn't help either. This is making me crazy so thanks for your help.
  10. Some programs won't launch

Where I always buy my discs is cheapbytes http://www.cheapbytes.com/ it is very reliable and they ship it so fast I got it 2 days later.
  11. AbiWord?

I agree. I really wanted to like it for those very reasons but maybe it'll get better. I am going to keep checking on it and trying it.
  12. AbiWord?

I have used 2.2.8 but found that I just didn't like it as much as openoffice because it just didn't seem to work with .doc as well. Maybe it's better with 2.2.9 but I don't know.
  13. Problems with Real Player 10

Or, as someone reminded me the other day, you could go into the programs menu and drag the shortcut onto the desktop. It should be under multimedia -> video or someplace like that. I'm using PCLinuxOS so the menus are somewhat different but not too much.
  14. Which Game genre is your favorite?

I don't know what genre they are but I like Gnome Mahjongg, Gnometris, Frozen Bubble, Patience (a card game), Supertux, xBill, Tuxkart, and of course Penguin Racer. So mostly arcade with some others thrown in.
  15. Which E-mail Client do you use?

I like KMail so I use that. It's simple, has all the features I need and was really easy to set up with f-prot and spamassasin. I especially like that it can run in the taskbar all the time and notify me when I have new mail. My needs are pretty basic.
