Hello, Ok here's the story. Lately I have been triying to install some new things like gnome 2.6 and KDE 3.3 but I DO NOT have enough space. As far as I know right now my /usr partition is combined into ONE partition with / . So /usr is with / in 1 big 'ol partition. I have a 40 GB hard drive. But as we all know some times it's not really that size mine is probably around 36 GB big. Right now this is what I know, my /home is 30GB. My / is 5.83 GB and my Swap is 494MB. So I want to make more space for my /. So far about the easiest Idea I have seen is to resize my /home to 20GB, and then mnt /usr on that free space. The only thing is that I'm not familiar with a lot of this partition stuff. So if you can help me out please do so, write how I will do so and what steps I should take. Thanks, -Luis

Hmm I don't know really about this since I don't have nvidia video card, but I know that for mine these don't match, $ uname -r 2.6.3-16mdkcustom and $ rpm -qa | grep kernel kernel-2.6.3.7mdk-1-1mdk kernel-source-2.6.3-16mdk As you can see they are both different kernels listed. -Luis

Umm lol I just put all your suggestions into the original Eterm thing that I put together, now as you can there's more things on it? -Luis

The only thing that I see right now is that you compile the drivers into the Kernel I just got done compiling my first kernel thanks to ac_dispatcher. So far nothing has gone bad. Proabably as I watch the people reading this ac_dispatcher might give you directions on how to compile a kernel maybe. Anyways in the mean time read more about compiling a kernel. -Luis

yeah yeah yeah, Thanks to ac_dispatcher I compiled my own kernel using one of his config files that are great for both our laptops since we pretty much have the same one. Now after we have compiled the kernel and tweaked XFree86 this is what I get from $glxgears, [zero@localhost zero]$ glxgears 3322 frames in 5.0 seconds = 664.400 FPS 3524 frames in 5.0 seconds = 704.800 FPS 3510 frames in 5.0 seconds = 702.000 FPS as you can see it's pretty good from the last time. And usually last time before I had my compiled kernel I would get different results from glxgears, now I get the same thing around 3400 3500 frames. -Luis

Oh yeah I did make a mistake it's not 3500 FPS it's more like just plain old frames. :0 silly me. -Luis

Yeah, Depends on your video card I for example have the Mobility M6 which is a laptop video card intergraded I think so yeah, those are the best numbers to my knowledge that you can squeze out of my video card. But if you have something else something much never then I'm sure you will get 20 times better FPS than I do. When I recompiled my kernel the config file that I was using was pretty much specially made for my laptop. Since ac_dispatcher ( they guy who helped me & guided me thrue my first kernel compile, has the same laptop pretty much ) So not only did I fix my video card but it also fixed many other things like the driver for my touchpad, the volume keys on the side (which I never got to work before ) and many other cool things I didn't know I would ever get working. For now you should just stick to learning more read around get to know a few people you know. I'm still pretty new to Linux and everyone kept on telling me that I could not compile a kernel that I was a n00b ( and yes these people are from this board ) but I was able to manage and thankfully ac_dispatcher helped me and I came out victorious. But comiling a kernel is easy I though it would be much harder but it's not that really just depends on what your options are. -Luis

For me I found that those drivers didn't work just messed things up for me and caused me to re-install Linux *cought, Steve * . I just now a few days ago compiled my own kernel with the ATI drivers in it. And I went from 640 FPS to around 3500FPS I know that 3500 is not that great but from 640 and a laptop video card I can't be happier. -Luis

I just upgraded to it the major reason was to compile my ATI drivers into the kernel. And I loved compiling a kernel it was fun. -Luis

I'll try to help you if you might be more specific on where you got the picture from. Might be able to track it down or something, Right now I'm in the of starting to compile my first kernel yay! -Luis

Hmm I don't think that is a theme for flux, might be something like a starter bar that's more different then the one I use to use. You can change or mess around with the themes on fluxbox and make everything bigger. Sadly I had mine running fine until it crashed....or Mandrake did. Anyways I'm focusing more on gnome as of now. -Luis

I have a Linksys WPC 11 card vers.3 and that works great very easy to set up. -Luis

I can't even get it working....

I get to the same exact screen in Firefox, but I think it someone said that the site probably has way too many visitors and might be busy or something. But I can't get get it either :shrug: -Luis

On my laptop right now I have Mobility M6 so far I'm in the process with ac_dispatcher to make it better. Right now I get about 700 FPS from glxgears. Which is really really bad. But by far the most annoying problem yet is that for somer reason my gnome restarts or kde what ever it may be just restart randomly. That is the only problem that I seem to have. But it's not to the point where it just happened too much, some people have suggested that I try out a new distro, but I LIKE mdk way too much to just give up on it like that. Because mdk has not given me any other problem besides this. As soon as 10.1 comes out I'm switching to that since it has x.org which I hear that might be much better altho some say that they don't see the change of XFree86 and x.org. -Luis

I do too! Ever since I got back to school I have recommended Linux to just about every one that I know speacially my computer teachers. But some of them say they don't have " time " which is BS because all they do is tell us to type something on the computer and then they sit at their desk most of the class. I think eventually Linux will become as popular as windows. I don't really know if it will over throw :shrug : it, since microsoft has been around for sooo long and they are soo filthy rich ( or at least Bill Gates ) but it is a possible Idea in maybe I dunno 10 years or so? -Luis

For now I don't have that much time since I'm getting ready to take on yet Another Hurricane.
