Want to start programming
Urza9814 replied to cage47's topic in Command Line, Kernel and Programming
I think KDevelop is fine...if you can figure it out...I always have trouble getting it to compile...I forget why...I know I've gotten it to work before...but I forget how...lol -
DSL modems are that expensive??? You can get a cable one for $30... wow...$54 for a DSL one...and that's on pricewatch! And then it'll probably end up like the one I got...we're renting it from the cable company, so it really sucks...lol...if I try to DL or upload multiple large files it'll just shut off and I'll have to reset it.

yea, my install is totally screwed, I know that, I fixed it as much as I could, but for now im just gonna live with it...all other apps usually work fine (well, except totem...my configs are screwed with that, but I don't use it)...I've tried reinstalling the entire system, but it must be my config files or something because that doesn't do anything...I have /home and / in separate partitions, so I've reformatted and reinstalled /, but never messed with /home...it'll take too long to sort out...I'mma save that until I buy my new hard drives...which I'm saving until I get my new comp...which will be in...12 days

I need a file browser thingy, whatever you call 'em, like Nautilus or Konquer (preferrably Konqueror) that is not tied into KDE or Gnome. Main thing I want is small, STABLE and tabs. See, everything tied in with KDE or Gnome crashes on this comp...even KDE and Gnome themselves won't run...well, KDE will, but it's instanely slow...Gnome won't run at all. So, anyone got any suggestions? I'm tired of Konqueror crashing whenever I try to rename a file, and Nautilus runs really slow and keeps giving me error messages in the terminal window I used to open it until eventually it crashes too...

Success!! ATI Radeon Drivers on Mandrake 10.1
Urza9814 replied to Tymestream's topic in Tips and Tricks
hey, I'm just wondering...I believe I heard on these boards before that the ATI cards worked, just not fully...or did I read it wrong or something? I'm building a new comp soon, using a Radeon 9200. Right now my video is just built into my mobo...and that's fine for linux, since I boot to windoze for games...so will I need to go through all that? BTW, im using mdk 9.2, so... -
but....it's not open source! :P

yea...name brands suck a lot...I got a 10-pack of sonies last year...CD-RWs...4 of 'em burned, none were able to be re-written. Then my bro got a 100 pack of Staples...never had a signel one of 'em fail (except where the burner is at fault...I tried a few times to burn in Linux before I figured out it doesn't work :P...probably a bad driver or something)

I'm gonna send an email to the 'Indiana Country Technology Center'...we went there today during school...they have 3 (of 13) computer programs...they use Windoze XP, IE, Adobe Photoshop, and some Adobe movie editor...imma send 'em a buncha links, including a few mentioned here...show 'em The Gimp, Firefox, Cinelerra, etc... :P even their networking program used all windoze! :o oh, they also need a good long tour of the 'HTML Hell page'...they are encouraging people to make websites entirely in flash! I hate sites like that...

enthusiastic? yes experienced? no good? no I'll do any basic stuff you may have need for...might not do it well, but I'll give it a shot :P if ur looking for an idea of my experience level...I made an MMO (using FTP), but that was in windoze...and then I made a linux prog that would automatically change the wallpaper at certain times of day...I'm pretty sure it worked (can't quite remember)...but it spiked my CPU usage because it was constantly checking what time it was :P

I myself find Gnome a LOT easier than KDE...if I had a comp good enough to run either of them I'd definatly use Gnome...or stay with IceWM...not totally sure...lol
-
yea, you have to set it up first. Google 'easy urpmi'...you'll find a page that will give you everything you need
-
soulseek sucks. I had nicotine...used it once...the server is bad, and nicotine is even worse than the official client...ugh...
-
I believe those things are just blank
-
hmmmm...that got me thinking...my school has...4 or 5 IBM labs I think, and a mac one...I should do that...but I wouldn't know where to go or what to say...lol
-
well, for other comps you could use FTP mebbe...

Ping4kids - Linux for kids, parents and others
Urza9814 replied to chris:b's topic in Everything Linux
Do you have OOo in there for the parents? -
I find staples makes good CD-Rs...Radioshack had some of the best RWs I've ever seen...those things lasted about a year before I lost them, where most other RWs last about a day...not even sometimes...but I haven't seen any Radioshack CDs in a year or two... :(

I have decided, I need a prog to teach me this...I can't learn on my own just by staring at the layout as I type...and I got a shareware one, and I was using it, and I was like 'wow...this sucks...I could make a better prog than this...' so I am...so imma stay QWERTY until that's done I think...but it's gonna be real basic console prog, so it shouldn't take too long :P edit: aurgh! I had it working...but...it would only use stuff before the space...and I can't get it to work with stuff with spaces... wait! mebbe....nope anyone got any ideas? Or a nice free prog that already exists...lol see, the problem is I have to use 'istringstream' and convert a const char to a string so that I can accuratly compare it to the input...but then that only takes up to the first space...:S
-
I just started using it...so hard...lol... im using it on 'blows ATM, because I was already in it for BGII, and I wanted to see if it even had it...and I've found it nice because I can have IM windows (where I need to type fast) on QWERTY. Im wondering...is there a way to do this in Linux (on IceWM)?

hmm...that site gave me an M$ pop-up. Aren't they against spam? Apparently they don't care about pop-ups...

iTunes sucks... for linux it's XMMS and MPlayer, for windoze Winamp... why the heck would you use somethign as bloated as iTunes?
-
...never heard of either of 'em...lol *googles 'em* wow...it's like ITunes or WMP...I can't stand progs like that... I like XMMS and MPlayer...haven't liked MPlayer much since I updated it though...I liked the old version without the controls :P
-
duh it owuldn't use windoze...since when can you get windoze alone for under $100?!? :P
-
HAHA! Konq takes, like, 10 minutes just to open on my comp...and tabs are SLOW...lol
-
eh...I got a crack for that prog...can't read the files though...they just won't open... :S
