  1. You're right AussieJohn, I'm chicken. :D Seem like every time I change to the latest greatest OS update, I end up with half the apps I want to work, not working. The last time I change version was to get SoundJuicier to work again. 2008 free is working right now, I like to leave it that way. Maybe if I add another 120gb drive I might play a little. I have two now, one for XP and the other for Mandriva.
  2. Boy I'm glad I had no HD space... just when every thing works in 2008!
  3. 2008 Mandriva Free Nothing Special... Just What Works For Me.
  4. Well, I have given up on GStreamer, since I have to recompile Amarok to use it. I have updated Xine and now I'm back in business... right where I' have started! I'm beginning to think Xine is having trouble with 24 bit WAVs! Xine doesn't have this problem with 16 bit WAVs. Here is a list of files recorded in the WAVEX format with a comparison between Amarok and K3B. Yes = accept and will play and No = will not play, error, no decoder. -----------Amarok------K3B File 01-----no----------yes File 02-----yes---------no File 03-----yes---------no File 04-----yes---------no File 05-----no----------yes File 06-----yes---------no File 07-----yes---------no File 08-----no----------yes File 09-----yes---------no File 10-----no----------yes file 11-----no----------yes All the files were created by Creative's Wave Studio, All saved with the same properties. I don't understand the alternation. Amarok and K3B will use OGG, FLAC, MP3, WMA and WAV as long they are 16 bit. ??? I ended up burning my CD in Windows using Nero CD Burner.
  5. Now, this is interesting... I just discovered Amarok will no longer play any of my WAV files... ??? Amarok is using Xine engine, What happened to Xine? How do I get it to "see" Gstreamer? I guess I should add, that this is Mandriva 2008, KDE.
  6. The audio files I'm working with now are 24 bit WAVs or more accurately WAVEX (microsoft) file format. I noticed K3B accepts them but Amarok will not play them. I need help locating a decoder for Amarok... Having trouble locating the proper decoder.
  7. Well scarecrow, I think I'm back in business. Here's how it went... I have root permission on the DVD-RW. The system (KDE) identified the drive correctly. K3B indicated DMA was off, so I set it to 1 or on. The drive is set as "MASTER" on it's own IDE. The K3B dialog in the GUI indicated I had a 8gb disc in the drive (double layer?) when it was only 4.4gb. The Green bar at the bottom of the page indicated about 3/4 full but to the right the dialog indicated 5.6 of 8gb. So part of K3B knew I had a 4.4gb disc in the drive and I was attempting to burn 5.6gb to a 4.4gb disc, but no warnings, just no "BURN" button. Before blaming the new drive, my brother and I decided to switch ribbon cables to see what that does. Now it looks like the DVD-RW is working properly with K3B. I using a ASUS mother board and it is supplied with two ribbon cables; "CD-ROM" and "HDD". We are now using the "HDD" cable. At this time it looks like the the cable might have been the problem and I'm able to burn and verify DVD Data discs. See how it goes...
  8. New Sony DVD RW DRU 840A I just installed a DVD burner, and NOW having trouble with K3B burning a SECOND DVD-R, I was able to burn ONE, but now K3B refuse to "see" a blank DVD. Or something like that... if you look in the upper left corner where you add files, K3B indicates there is a blank DVD, but when you open the BURN dialog the "BURN" button is grayed out. What happened?
  9. Thanks guys, I think that did it. I saved my profile, THEN loaded it and now all views are detailed list every time I open Konqueror. It was the loading that I was over looking. :D
  10. When ever I'm in KDE/Konqueror, I have to choose 'View' and then select 'View Mode' and then Select 'Detailed list view' to see files the way I'm use to. I don't care for the 'Icon' view. How do I get 'Detailed list view' every time I run Konqueror instead of the 'Icon view'? [moved from Everything Linux by spinynorman]
  11. I guess I'm going to have to get with it posting EyeBrows if I'm going to keep up with THAT bunch! :P
  12. I have to agree at this point that software can look alike and perform in the same manor. The name of the software and the order the functions are presented often are the only difference from one software to another and can be patented. The coding of an OS for the most part is similar from one OS to another. After all we are coding to the same processor and hardware. But it is the OS that offers the differences, of course, to applications. Today, we write apps to run in the environment of the OS. After saying that, I would think an application would have to be pretty remarkable or distinctive to file lawsuits over software. What it comes to really is software appearance, and Micro$oft is good at scrabbling over that.
  13. I guess we need a list of what works and what doesn't.

  15. xorg.conf? There's nothing in mine...
  16. Actually the newest standard for electrical household current in the US is 120 VAC. However, 240 VAC IS available! B)
  17. I so many words, a bug! :D I'm on my way to loading Mandriva One on the AMD Athlon 64 3200+. By now I have done this and will play with this for a while. That means Both of my machines have Linux on them!
  18. Who marked this solved? It's not solved... :o Right now I have no idea what happened, and I would like some answers.
  19. OK... Sound Juicer is now working... again. And I don't know why, for sure. At this point I'm trying to think what I have done recently, to cause the trouble. This Post is the only thing I can come up with. Media Applet has a list of medium types, for example; "Audio CD", which I now have unchecked. So now Media Applet does not come up when I insert a audio CD. If MA comes up on screen, I have in the past chosen "Do nothing" and "OK". Sound Juicer then does it's job. At some point SJ started having trouble linking to Gstreamer , for some reason. Now if choose "Cancel", then SJ takes off and does, once again, it's job. Is there another program running because of MA giving SJ competition for the pipeline to Gstreamer? By choosing "Cancel", kills the link from this other program? I could be all wet here but I can't for all the tea in China figure why SJ quit working in the first place, and now works if I can keep MA from coming up.
  20. Well, that didn't work either...
  21. Except for that "pipe line" problem...
  22. Well if you didn't get your answer, then who marked it "solved"? I was kinda curious my self if there was a way to convert AVI to MPEG.....

    X Plane

Excellent! My Uncle will be pleased, it was his question. Hopefully he should not have all the trouble he's been having with X Plane for Windows XP. We hope! :P

    X Plane

Just for curiosity, has anyone here try to run X Plane on wine?
  25. Hey Peezee, did you get your question answered? Or did you changed your approach in the other thread you tried to start? To me it looks like you change your mind on something... and the others thought you made a double post.
