  1. I got the USB working by manually editing the bootloader with acpi=off noapic.

    USB 2.0

The Zip 750 is a USB 2.0 device.
  3. If this is for Nforce chipset drivers, then 10.0 comes with builtin support. If this is an Nvidia Card, then look in the downloads area (link is above at top of page).
  4. Interesting. I have no problems. I did have a problem with my USB printer not being detected, but I got that fixed with the acpi=off noapic. I didn't need any setup for K3B, and I just got done copying 2 CDs from 9.1 Powerpack and burning the 3 10.0 CE ISOs. My hardware for this topic: Gigabyte GA-7N400-L Nforce2 motherboard NEC ND-2500A CD/DVD+ - R/RW burner (8X) No lockups, and I have not done any updates. I guess this is a mixed results, depending on your hardware. Oh, I don't have the option to turn off PlugNPray in my BIOS.
  5. I HATE Nero 6!!!!!! It refuses to burn ISOs on 700 MB CD-Rs "Not enough space available ERROR" Nero 5.5 works fine on the SAME CD-Rs. Go Figure!!!
  6. Calling it a final was the first Error I noticed.
  7. Microsoft says "Trusssssssssssssssst Ussssssssssssssssss!!!!" (hiss that). The SSSSC, which was proposed by Senator Fritz Hollings was more than Fed mandated Palladium chips on mobos. It would have outlawed: Linux (added by none other than Disney Corporation) All current NON hardware DRM computers ALL homebuilt computers, current AND future!!!!!!! and a bunch of other stuff, all computer related. I doubt any person will be able to buy a Palladium mobo. You will HAVE to buy from Dull, Mooway, ComPUKE, Hockey Puck, EEKmachines, other other MS Authorized Trussssted Computing OEM. What's really holding up Longhorn, is getting the Divine Rights Management motherboards made. After all, the stupid things have to be completely re-engineered to include the Ultimate Competition Killer Chip aka PUKIUM!!!!! Billy Boy is about to become the Absolute Ruler of the World (his fondest dream). I am going to buy XP Pro and maybe 2K (for reserve) in the event that Microsoft issues the forced upgrade hidden update (a suddenly nonfinctioning XP) to hold your data hostage until you upgrade to Longhorn. :deal:
  8. SuSE 9.1 Professional has the 64 bit version for AMD64 and Athlon 64 on one of the DVDs. The other DVD and the 5 CDs have the 32 bit version. This could get me to switch to SuSE. SWEEEEEET Deal, with both 32 and 64 bit versions in one package!!! Incentive to build an Athlon 64 system???? Oh, no, not another computer!

    New To Linux

Broken CD drive, eh? Sounds like you got bit by the infamous LG CDROM drive bug (LG's fault).
  10. You should have a Minimum of 3 partitions for Linux: Root, Swap, and Home (/, linux swap, /home). Don't skimp on / space, since /temp and /usr are in there and /usr is the big one. Make your swap partition to be 2 GB in size. Use the rest of the drive for /home. ReiserFS is what many of us use. You do have to use 'Manual Partitioning' option and don't forget to format the partitions. Edit: You are going to need more than an 8 GB hdd. :D It takes about 2 gigs for linux itself, plus you need space for addon programs and such in the root partition, not to mention space for /tmp and /var. For a 20 GB hdd, I would recommend 8 gigs for /, 2 gigs for swap, and the balance for /home. My primary linux hdd has a 20 gig /, 2 gig swap, and 120 gigs for /home. My mixed OS drive has a 2 gig swap and a 12.xx /tmp. My drives: hda is windows only, hdb is fat32 and linux, hdd is linux only. (hdc is my DVD/CD burner).
  11. This is very easy to avoid: Use System Commander for your boot manager! You install it in dos or windows and then install LiLo or Grub in the root partition. The current version handles reiserFS. I have Partition Commander, which comes with System Commander Personal Edition. The curent SC/SCPE also handles WinXP.
  12. I just used that link and it works fine in mozilla on 10.0 CE. Ignore the PGP warning and install anyways. No need to open a terminal (console), I just saved the RPM to my downloads directory and then double clicked on it.
  13. Same issue with my HP DeskJet 3820 and the single character. I used to get this during install of mandrake in some earlier versions. Quick solution: Don't turn the printer on until After bootup is completed. The printer will still work fine. This is of course after the printer is setup. :D
  14. I rebooted with the printer still connected via the USB (and parallel port). It did so cleanly. I needed to redo the printer in Windows anyways. I haven't tried a shutdown yet. I use System Commander Personal Edition as my boot manager, which comes with Partition Commander. I just have LiLo in the root partition and no need to worry about rescuing it after a windows re-install: Install Windows, then install PC/SCPE and I am back in Linux. Installing Windows = the Land of Billions and Billions of Reboots!!!
  15. I haven't had a problem with Move. Yet. Haven't tried any others.
  16. I have been experiencing the same problem. I do have a printer plugged into USB at the moment, though it is not seen by 10.0 CE. In fact, in 9.1 with nforce2 binary RPM, it wasn't seen. I miss my Win4lin so much right now. Let me try a few things, and see if i can solve the problem on my end. I can even swap mobos if i need to (and burner, sigh).
  17. Are you using an Nforce mobo chipset???????? I have a similar problem: won't detect my USB local printer. As to the mouse, put it on the PS/2 mouse port. That is what it is for........ :D It seems USB device detection is non-existant at this point.
  18. My browser is really fast on 10.0 CE. What I sorely MISS: File Manager (Super User Mode)!!!! Detection of USB Local Printer (may be related to Nforce2 chipset) More information in KDE Control Center I am running a pure 10.0 CE (no 9.1 on my system). If they don't fix the USB printer thing, I will have to find a PCI Parallel card (2 printers here, and one can use USB). I detest having to logout and log back in as root to do some things. Otherwise, 10.0 CE is sweeeet!
  19. Think of the Community Edition as a Debian Unstable (bleeding edge). There is one annoyance in it that I have found: NON detection of USB printer with Nforce2 chipset. Not sure about NON Nforce2 and USB printer.
  20. Update: I am up and running in 10.0 CE. For some reason, it will not see my DeskJet 3820 on USB. Only Parallel (local printer).
  21. Grendal, I have Roadrunner Cable, not DSL, but it is still Broadband. :D
  22. I ran into this problem trying to use Nero 6. I am more familiar with Nero 5.5 and my Cyberdrive CDRW burner. Tried to uninstall Nero 6/InCD4 and had to reinstall windows with the cyberdrive connected to get the burning done. With Nero 6, it was an actual attempt to burn an image. With Nero 5.5 on a different burner (the joys of the OEM versions): no problems. Go figure.
  23. Bobaloo, I have been happily running linux for a while now. I just had that nasty surprise with the burner and mobo (mobo doesn't like the burner for some reason). Otherwise, the Chaintech 7VJL Deluxe Apogee is a Sweeet mobo. I also downloaded Mandrakemove and burned all three 10.0 CE CDs and the Mandrakemove. MM is sweet. It setup all of the nforce stuff correctly, unlike the binary RPM for mandy 9.1 (didn't setup USB, so failed to see my printer). Just got win98se back up and running, with 1 GB ram (dual DDR333), and it is nice and stable (98se). Now I can go ahead and install 10.0, which is the first one I have downloaded. :D The lady who does our shopping, saw MM and loves it, and she is a long time windows user.
  24. Ekzema, for those of us with Nforce2 chipsets by Nvidia (motherboard north and southbridges), Mandrake 10.0 Community is worth checking out. Sure, there will be bugs and that, since it is merely the Community release, and is for much wider testing to find all of the errata (bugs, security, etc.). The Official version will have all of those errata merged into the CE, and this is what will go to duplication for the boxed packs. No more fiascos like 9.2 was. For the first time, I downloaded all 3 10.0 CE isos. I did this because I am using an Nforce2 motherboard. If you want to wait for the Official (stable) production release, go right ahead. This will be 10.0.
  25. VeeDubb; I have to agree with you on cheapbytes being a good source. The site says 4 CD-R set for 10.0 CE, so that's a good deal.
