  1. I tried to install updates, but apparently I am completely up to date (according to MCC)
  2. Here are the contents of my XF86 Config-4: # File generated by XFdrake. # ********************************************************************** # Refer to the XF86Config man page for details about the format of # this file. # ********************************************************************** Section "Files" # Multiple FontPath entries are allowed (they are concatenated together) # By default, Mandrake 6.0 and later now use a font server independent of # the X server to render fonts. 3. I have MDK 10 CE running on a Dell Dimension 2400 2.53 GHz P-4 and 1GB of Ram. The onboard video shares 64MB of RAM and I think it is the reason that I am having some issues. I was using KDE 3.2 but found that my system runs better (i.e. a lot fewer crashes) on Elightenment, but I am still having some problems that I think are related to the video card. If I am wrong could someone please point me in the right direction? First, when I boot up two thirds of the time my screen hangs at the blue screen with an "X" cursor instead of moving on to the wristwatch and then the window manager. I can Ctrl+Alt+Backspace and reboot. Sometimes it will boot all the way into Enlightenment, and sometimes it hangs at the same spot. The other issue has to do with XScreensaver. I have it running almost exactly the way I want it, but after about 8 hrs it stops completely and I get a vertical rainbow across the lower half of the screen. Ctrl+Alt+Backspace doesn't do anything at all in this case and I have to hard reboot. Has anyone else had these problems and been able to resolve them? Like I was saying before, I think it may have something to do with the video card and the shared video memory. If that is the case, what card(s) are the best for the mdk distro? I am not a gamer, but do a lot of graphics work and web design.
  4. Thanks for the help. I finally got the Clie to sync. I ended up removing gnome-pilot (which was acting wierd. Every time I booted into Mandrake I would get a half dozen gnome-pilot wizards opened up), and using Kpilot. I set it to /dev/ttyUSB0 and everything worked. I am going to end up using Kmail and Korganizer instead of Evolution, but that's OK, as long as I have something that works I am happy.
  5. That didn't work. I didn't get any response at all
  6. I've got a Clie TJ37 and am unable to synch with any of the standard pilot packages. I know that I have the connection correct because I get this response when I run pilot-xfer -p /dev/ttyUSB0 -l Listening to port: /dev/ttyUSB0 Please press the HotSync button now... Connected Reading list of databases in RAM... <list of databases goes here> List complete. 228 files found. Time elapsed: 0:00:03 I was also able to backup the Clie to my /home/kevin/.palm directory using pilot-xfer -p /dev/ttyUSB0 -b /home/kevin/.palm However I get no response when I try to setup the pilot in Evolution. I get to the last screen in the gnome-pilot wizard and I get no response when I hit the HotSync button. I don't get any response in Jpilot after hitting HotSync, and in Kpilot it tells me that the link is ready, but doesn't do anything after that. I have the conduits setup as well in all of the above programs. I read somewhere that it may be posible that more than one instance of gpilotd may be running, but am not sure how to check that. Could the fact that I am trying out different apps contribute to that? I have also tried using coldsync 2.2.5. I installed it according to the directions and it will not run from either the console or the "Run Application" window. My preference would to use Evolution alone. I am running on a Dell Dimension 2400 p-4 2.53GHz, with 1GB RAM dual booting with XP pro on a 40GB WD hard drive. It has integrated video & sound. Kevin
  7. After you did the fixmbr at the repair console did you type "exit" or did you just reboot (Ctrl+Alt+Delete). I had exactly the same problem, only my XP is on an NTFS partition. Had to go back and fixmbr then type "exit at the last prompt and everything worked fine.
  8. Thanks, I unplugged all of my USB devices including my hub and everything is working now. Except my USB devices. I was trying to setup the sync to my Clie but it doesn't seem to want to recognize it. I'll post that problem in a related category. Kevin
  9. This is my first post here. I just installed Mandrake 10 CE on a Dell Dimension 2400 with a 2.53GHz P-4 with integrated video & networking. This is a dual boot machine (I have XP Pro on another partition). The install went very well until it asked me for disk 4 (which I don't have), but I was able to get past that with no problems. The system booted as nicely as my old Md 9.2 installation (with the exception that it took a log time to load the desktop). Other than that it is indeed faster and prettier. However, when I go to REBOOT it appears to go normally until it reaches my USB devices, then it hangs. The only way I can shut it down is by turning off my power strip, then I get the "unclean" file system shutdown at the next boot. It does the exactly same thing on SHUTDOWN. Kevin
