  1. I am using this one with MDk 9.2 and no problems with wmv or asf files. win32-codecs-1.4-2plf But then I am also using plf's mplayer too. available here: ftp://ftp.easynet.fr/plf/mandrake/9.2/i586/
  2. Not a stupid question at all. KDE has this setting in Configuration --> KDE --> Components --> Component Chooser. This works great... IF your using konq and kmail. But it seems this will not yet work if your using Mozilla (like me) or Firebird (which is based on Mozilla) http://www.mozilla.org/start/1.4/faq/mail-...l#other-default

    audio cd

I just recently burned a CD from mp3 files just the way aRTee described. Not sure if I had to install lame for this or not, but it did not take long at all on an AMD 1200 system ( the key here may be the 7200 rpm harddrive and CD being on a separate IDE cables ) IF it complains about the encoder... look for this --> liblame0-3.93.1-4plf I also noticed, my k3b seems to have come with an ogg encoder/decoder plug-in, but I haven't tried this.
  4. Yaaaaa HOOOOOO has been pretty good for me for the last few years. And you also get some free space to share pictures and store things. But on the other hand, I once had a netscape account, until they started changing things and messing things up ... so I dumped them.
  5. I got to play a bit last night with dosbox and finally figured out how to mount c:\ and then d:\ to access my cdrom, but I am not getting any where with the game I wanted to try. I was trying to install a pinball game that needs DOS 5.0 or higher, but it would crash as soon as I pressed enter. Is it this game is just one of those that ain't gonna work at this time, or maybe its something else ??? In the meantime, I will dig through my "junk" and see what other old treasures I can dig up. thanx,

    cdrtools

I know I ran into this before, so I tried a bit of googling to refresh my memory and really didn't find anything that made sense to me, but did find a comment explaining this problem a bit. So I am guessing a path is off somewhere. Maybe you need to install from another directory or to another ? Or maybe it is looking for linux in another folder that don't exist ? I really don't understand this stuff, but thought I would try helping anyway. I wish coders would speak English.
  7. Just download the small torrent file --- should only be about 20 - 30 Kb. CD to the folder with this file and do this before downloading: torrentsniff Name_Of_Torrent_File.torrent and this will tell you what files you will be getting.
  8. Hee-Hee, I was about to do the same myself. :D Found out that f20.org picks and choose those freebies and they closed that option down recently.

    cdrtools

Being its the latest release, I would wonder it maybe something is just screwed with the installer. If so, I would bet they will release another package shortly. I ususally stick with the rpms, but they too sometimes cause similiar problems because the packager forgot to list a depend or used a wrong path somewhere. When I run into strange depends problems with rpms, I would try other rpms packaged elsewhere, and will usually find one that works great with a standard mandrake setup and not need any depends. (example k3b, took several versions and tries to get k3b .10 installed in 9.2). Maybe list the last dozen or so lines from the output you get and let our members have a crack at it?
  10. Your getting into a whole new ballpark now. Probably best to start a new topic in the Hardware forum and be sure to tell us what modem and driver you have. You will get much better hardware config answers there. Might also want to try the readme that should have been included with the driver first.
  11. OK, Here's what I was thinking of: file:/etc/httpd/conf/apache-mime.types has a line to associated the pdf mimi type for apache's needs (application/pdf pdf) But I don't think that's what your looking for here. I think your looking to generate pdf files using php and in that case you probably need to find "libpdf" which aren't on my MDK 9.2 CD's, but my sources tell me its available from the plf (which you can find by clicking on that downlink link at the top of this page). This page may be of some use to you: http://www.php.net/manual/en/ref.pdf.php
  12. I don't know, but it looks like insmod is not installed. I quickly checkd and this belongs to an rpm named "modutils" --- you have this installed?
  13. Not sure what your trying to do here, but I can try and help with my limited knowledge on this. If your trying to set up a website to view pdf's through the user's browser, I think you may just need to map pdf through the php.ini file to instruct the browser on what to do with these types of files. The gd, mysql modules are for other applications that php may need to run to function. I will look at my stuff later tonight when I get home.
  14. You probably know this ibobvt, but for those unfamiliar with mac --- The flashing question mark is your Mac telling you that it can not find a system folder and an OS to load ( AKA - blessed System folder ). If you have the correct ppc version, you may be able to boot into rescue mode to restore lilo, which should be the missing step here to get Mandy booted. That may work, but I don't really know, cause I am unfamiliar myself with ppc installs.

    Mp3Blaster

I don't think its a ownership issue with your sound driver. I have never used this program, but am thinking it may be something like mozilla and multiple user accounts. The key here is it works when your logged in. Just a guess, but maybe you need to install mp3blaster as root into /root (where it might create a ./mp3blaster folder there) and first start it as root to allow it to create its user accounts properly, something like mozilla does. If it was installed elsewhere, it may be considering your normal user as its root account and thus confusing you and root and "locking" it up for your other users. Hope this made sense and helps.
  16. We need to find out what you have installed first. Follow bvc's instructions above and then post back with the info you get. Then we will know better what you need to do. :D

    USB card reader

Looks like I sorta got it working now. BUT, it still freezes on bootup or shutdown when plugged in. Either during "checking filesystems" or "checking new hardware" or "stopping ALSA." When I finally got an icon to appear on the desktop --- I quickly grabbed the fstab entry it made before losing it again. none /mnt/hd supermount dev=/dev/sdb1,fs=ext2:vfat,--,iocharset=iso8859-1,kudzu,codepage=850 0 0 I then changed "hd" to "camera" just because and I also deleted the ref to kudzu, since 9.2 doesn't have this and thought this could be causing the hang ups. (maybe harddrake2 should be there instead???) none /mnt/camera supermount dev=/dev/sdb1,fs=ext2:vfat,--,iocharset=iso8859-1,codepage=850 0 0 Gonna leave it like so, unless someone figures this out or something else comes up on the subject.. Just gotta remember to unplug before shutting down now and then to plug it back in when I need it. and yes it is a multi card reader (CF type I, CF type II, and the long thin ones, whatever they are) thanks,
  18. KDE, mostly cause it is what I started using with MDK 8.0 when gnome was too slow and just stuck with it cause I got used to it.
  19. Sounds like you have a 9.2 source configured in, which is what I suspect is causing all this confusion. Example: nautilus 2.4. is not listed on either the 9.1 rpm site or the update site. It is a 9.2 file. In KDE you can choose to turn your sources on and off to accomplish different tasks. Configuration --> Packaging --> Software Media Manager Example: you need to install an older program from your CD's and don't want urpmi to pick up the newer packages from the update sources.
  20. Just tried that ftp site... too many connections. So I thought ( I was gonna suggest Bitorrent in the first place) --- Lets check for a torrent out there. I see SuprNova.org has the 5 CD set and the DVD version that are seeing plenty of action... which will ensure a faster download.
  21. I did not find any rate sheets at these two mentioned sites: http://www.digitaldaemon.com/index0.html and http://www.phdcomputing.net/ Now fuzzy's suggested f20.org looked promising. I see they even offer a free account (with the option to pay for addons of course). Is this where fuzzylizard.com is hosted? Also, I couldn't find a mention if they are running Linux or whatever. Either way, looks like a good place to experiment with a site idea and if it grows... you would be able to add on the needed services.
  22. Welcome aboard, Definiately use the contrib's one first. Cooker is for the newest test versions. Yes, you can download and burn on windows (or mac). The install process will depend on what type of file you download (.rpm .tar)
