  1. can anyone tell me why linux file sharing apps suck so bad? I guess I'm just venting, but I cannot find a single one that is worth using, let alone will allow me to download something. grrrrrrr.....
  2. Ouch...thats scary. tell you what, when I get to work tommorrow, I'll run this past the other techs that I work with and we'll see what we can come up with ok? They are much wiser than I!!!
  3. interesting. do you have a windows 98 bootdisk we could use to see if the system will boot into windows? I just wanna see if we can isolate the problem a little more.
  4. awesome. that'll do! ok, you see this here: label=windows table=/dev/hda other=/dev/fd0 Thats what the lilo program will use to load windows for you. Now I have to ask, do you see a menu appear when you first turn on the computer? It should be a menu that has a few boot options. actually, anywhere that you see the label line in the lilo.conf file, that will be an option. If you are seeing the menu at boot, then you should just be able to just press the down arrow till you get to the windows one and hit enter.
  5. copy and paste is easy, just highlight to copy, and middle mouse button (wheel click) to paste.
  6. is this busybox business giving you problems? or are you just curious what it is?
  7. there is something wrong with your lilo.conf file. you can find that in your /etc directory. Post the contents of that file here, and I think we can better help you.
  8. Maybe we'll get lucky and see ORB on linux.
  9. Mandrake has me so trained to hate supermount now, that I even hate auto mounting on that other system (windoze.)
  10. xqf is a really cool little app. I use that a lot too. I have a few riva, lries going on with a couple of other quake 3 people, and I can use xqf to find out what game they are in. Also, if you wanna play things like urban terror, you need xqf.
  11. checkout firestarter, or guarddog! another good one is fwbuilder.
  12. Hmm.. what does that mean? The screensaver is weird or it's weird that you cannot find the link? Oh wait.. you said werd.. errr.. what does that word mean? hehe. sorry sometimes I forget I'm not talking to my everyday people! Thanks for the link!!! 8)

    Firewall setup

have you tried any applications like firestarter, or my personal favorite, guarddog? I'm not sure if the mandrake firewall lets you do that. but guarddog will and firestarter will!
  14. umm... I'm not seeing the mandrake package anywhere. got a link anyone?
  15. does your /etc/lilo.conf have mem=nopentium on the "append" line?
  16. you can send messages to windows clients using komba2 and samba. you may be able to do the same with X-clients.
  17. if you are looking for something like ACDsee, you would like pixieplus http://www.rpmfind.net//linux/RPM/mandrake...-4mdk.i586.html for cdburning, i second eroaster
  18. I once had a very similar problem and it turned out to be that my /var directory was stuffed to the max. ( at the time, it was not its own physical partition. it just used whatever space I had allocated for / ) all i did was delete the logs and what not and it was cool.
  19. you didn't tell me you already go it in!! wanna um...trade?
  20. Thanks for the input ya'll I think the problem is actually deeper and darker. I'm running MDK 9.0 here at work as well as at home, and here at work, after I deleted the icon, it has never come back. maybe it could be that at home i have supermount enabled and here at work I have it disabled. hmmm....I just realized that now. I'll post back after i disable supermount at home.
  21. Anyone know how to make that "removable drives" icon stop appearing on my desktop every time i log in? I delete the damn thing, and there it is every time i log back in.
  22. for the resolution issue: open up a terminal and run "DrakConf" (it is case sensitive) you will be prompted for the root password. type in the root password <enter> under hardware, click on the resolution icon. from there you can make your changes. I really don't know what to tell you on the cursor issue though.
