You´re right, I thought you could only browse text files, not save them.... :o

yup, now i still need a useable text editor (ie. not vi and not emacs), and I can start doing fixes from my install, instead of having to boot to another partition.
  4. Last time I programmed anything was 8 years ago ( in C++), I basicly would have to start over again, which language would you guys actually recommend, I think Python is becoming more and more popular?
  5. Arent plain text files supposed to be even slower than xml? It might make GNOME faster but I dont believe that that is what makes GNOME slower compared to KDE (i prefer kde for looks and ease of use but ubuntu w/gnome runs faster on my comp than mandriva w/ kde)
  6. Its sorta fixed again, some minor issues still remain though (like some fonts dont render and multimedia keys are not working correctly)
  7. I would still like a blue human theme, with all the controls like the slider/update bar from human in blue too, can you make one for me please
  8. urpmi mplayerplugin from a terminal as root should do the trick for installing everything you need, except maybe the codecs... urpmi xine-win32 win32-codecs avifile-win32 for the codecs
  9. Erm, urpmi should already be installed, do you mean setting up the sources? You can use the following link, just follow the instructions: http://www.mandrivausers.org/easyurpmi/index.php edit: be sure to tick: Use compressed index, much smaller than normal, with less informations as this will save an about 100MB download each time you check your sources.
  10. Just tell wether or not you manage to install the mplayer plugin. BTW, which browser are you using?

ah there´s an rpm called links-graphic, I think links might come in real handy when I break my xorg again....
  12. use mplayerplugin w/ mplayer, do you know how to use urpmi to download programs? Also do you have the win32 codecs installed in the right place?
  13. Do you have any other partitions you can boot onto, does it happen in the bootloader stage already?

yeah, big difference compared to lynx, this one is really fast, though the mandriva version does not come with the -g option :( $ links -g Graphics not enabled when compiling
  15. This place is a very good lace for getting noob help, I know coz I am still one too, I remember installing flash and jre were a pain in the arse because there are no rpm´s available and you have to use the command line without even knowing the commands (actually once you get urpmi setup installing removing software is so easy it becomes almost addictive to try out everything). Anyway, download the file open it and from the menu chose to extract (from the menu action->extract) the content to let´s say : /home/bilbo/Desktop/flash (linux is case sensitive btw!) type: cd /home/bilbo/Desktop/flash (or replace bilbo with whatever your login name is) from a konsole (under kmenu (the start like thing)->system->terminals->konsole) then type: ./flashplayer-installer <-- notice the . before / voila flash should work
  16. Nah, every single package is linked to xorg, you would have to downgrade just about everything, I just found out the hard way, when upgrading kde in cooker recently also got me a broken xorg 7.0; there´s one thing if you have thac and ze s version of xorg installed you might be able to downgrade these to mandrivas xorg. https://mandrivausers.org/index.php?showtop...=downgrade+xorg
  17. i have "some" succes (settings don´t safe :( ) in working with flash 8 in win32 opera under wine but didn´t try to make it work in limux opera with win32 flash 8, i wonder if this would be possible

I know, but loading Mandriva´s default page takes like 15s, not even counting the fact of accepting the cookie. (compared to konqueror 4s)

lynx is a hell of a lot slower then even FF for me
  20. kde people seem to think it is a mandriva thing....

Opera for me, and you are right, on paper its not lightweight but in actual tests, it is the fastest http://www.howtocreate.co.uk/browserSpeed.html So actually you get the best of both worlds, speed and features :) BTW: isn´t Safari based on Konqueror, at least the rendering engine KHTML? edit: and isn´t Epiphany just a frontend (simplified skin) for FF edit2: oh contrary to popular believe Mozilla (Seamonkey) actually is faster than FF, read the link for an explanation of why)
  22. Well I deleted just about every .***server*** .X*** .font*** .***auth*** .***session*** and .***DCOP*** file from my home dir and that solved the problem, don´t have a clue which file was the actual culprit though, system seems faster than ever :)
  23. I tried this already and kbuildsycoca too and renaming ~/.kde deleting ~/tmp
