My guess as to why KDE is faster than GNOME (although I am a KDE user but never noticed a speed difference a great speed difference) is that KDE preloads a lot more into memory but many people don´t like this as it seems like memory hogging....but hey you don´t have all that ram to leave it unused, do you?

Okay, i needed to click default and I got a whole load of widgets, I also downloaded all superkaramba-themes from urpmi, I don´t get ltmon_liquid, I do however get sys_mon but that doesnt show the temp either (ie it should be there but isn´t). I guess I have no idea, maybe superkaramba is still a bit buggy...

autoconf2.5 automake [solved]
ffi replied to avogodro's topic in Command Line, Kernel and Programming
Did you copy and paste or retype the command? You seem to retype them here and make a lot of typos. -
I guess the widgets available in superkaramba itself change (there appear to be 3 catagories: most dl'ed; highest rated; latest)

When I studied computer sciences, a while back (never finished the first year though, as it was just a hobby and had other more important thing to do), our very first programming assignment, after about 1 week, was to write a simple c++ precompiler, which I guess would do more or less the same as the xml parser. It wasn´´ t very hard at all and I cannot imagine that in all those years, all the people working for GNOME haven´t come up with something good...

autoconf2.5 automake [solved]

If you get an error, please check that the mirror is accessible and not over it's connection limit. Also, you might want to type urpmi.removemedia -a first, in order to reinitialize urpmi's setup. ;) then add the mirrors as before, be sure to add all of them, ie main, contrib and update (and plf and plf non free too)... -
Windows doesnt come with an nVidia driver either, you have to go to their site and install it, though the windows out of the box nVidia driver or VGA driver is a bit better than Xorgs driver... Why I was afraid of linux: -commandline -wouldnt be able to use my favourite programs anymore -crappy ntfs support -> I wouldnt be able to access most my data -crappy hardware support (<- this actually stopped me for a long time untill I thought my adsl usb modem died, which wasnt supported, and I had to buy a new modem) -commandline -commandline -why change a winning system? I never had had problems with XP in 3 years -commandline

I dont have it in my list, Superkaramba, you have a link?

Which widget are you using? (edit if you are using an aero widget non work for me...)

I have been using 9 alfa/beta for half a year it has been pretty stable, though back up your ~/.opera directory. I don´t think the next version will be released for another 2 months.
-
Why dont you use the beta or weekly? They work mostly accept for immodule support (ie. dead keys and accents) but O9b2 already way better than O8.5

It could be that you are missing a codec or that the player engine doesn´t support that codec. Kaffeine is actually about 6 players in one. Go to Settings->Player engine and try a different engine, I generally have most luck with Embedded Mplayer for KDE. see this thread for getting codecs: https://mandrivausers.org/index.php?showtopic=32501

I would say: Opera is very lightweight, fast, and it has so many mouse features, that really don't need a keyboard to use it. It's definitely my favorite browser and it´s true too :D

Still trying to install tar files

Why dont you try to download the rpm from cooker, see if it will install, it has the latest version, and yeah I made a mistake, you need the latest wxgtk, not latest gtk (btw you mistyped, it´s grk not gth, maybe that causes a problem). wxGTK2.6-2.6.1-1mdk.i586.rpm is in 2006.0 main on anorien server..... ftp://anorien.csc.warwick.ac.uk/Mandriva/...1-1mdk.i586.rpm -

yeah, i have a stable release again on my computer :) -
The drivers were updated, so download those from cooker but BE CAREFULL because gtk and gnome are broken currently, don´t auto update :(

To each his own, it was only last year (i bought my first computer in 1984, when i was 10) i learned ctrl-v and the other one (forgot already for copying and pasting) but that was only because I had to work with Oracle which doesnt have a right click context menu.

Strange the ABI problem should only be there with nvidia propietary drivers and xorg 7.1 (not 7.0 and lower). Did you try updating the drivers, a whole load were uploaded last night. http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=70476

Still trying to install tar files
ffi replied to maparus's topic in Command Line, Kernel and Programming
I wish I could make my own rpm´s, someone here already pointed me to some articles but is not very straight forward writing a spec file and building the rpm :( -
Still trying to install tar files
ffi replied to maparus's topic in Command Line, Kernel and Programming
It can make uninstalling or upgrading from an rpm later a pain in the arse, although the checkinstall program could make that easier, though it doesnt seem to work with a lot of makefiles. -

You don´t have gcc installed nor other packages needed to build amule. Anyway the latest version is 212 and Mandriva has an rpm for this too, you probably need newer versions of gtk and pango and that kind of stuff first, see of either mde or sos have the latest version or try do get cooker version to work (installing from source, altough sounding pretty cool is not very good, messes up the rpm database pretty badly) -
Which is the thing I hate about any program, remembering keystrokes, I mean remembering keystrokes is so 1985*.... (* the year before amiga was launched, iirc)
