    Mounting Devices

did you update everything including your kernel? I have seen this bug in the spring betas...but is was fixed
  2. Hi, it doesnt really matter if you get the cd or dvd as you can always download everything which is on the dvd, but not the cd and much much more from the internet. Also it is possible to make your own livecd/dvd (havent tried yet though....)
  3. In the past the download link was pretty hard to find but there is a link right at the top of the mandriva start page  : http://www.mandriva.com/download
  4. it's a livecd, all files are inside the filesytem, which would lokk like a single very large file, just burn the cd/dvd with your favourite image burn software (alcohol, nero whatever) and boot it, it will work (most likely.... if the md5 is okay)
  5. you need the legacy drivers (7x.xx series), not the latest and install kernel-(legacy)source-stripped-latest and kernel-(legacy-)latest or whichever version of the kernel you use (i suspect legacy since you have an ancient graphics card)
  6. huh? open ~/.kde/share/config/kickerrc and copy [KMenu] KMenuButtonScale=false KMenuIcon=kmenu into the file and restart kde, like the release note says...
  7. http://wiki.mandriva.com/en/Releases/Mandr...ow_to_remove_it
  8. Maybe you didn't set up your repositories correctly? It's there: ftp://distrib-coffee.ipsl.jussieu.fr/pub/...2007.1.i586.rpm
  9. But why go to all this trouble when java-1.6.0-sun and java-1.5.0-sun are in the repositories? urpmi java-1.6.0 should be enough....
  10. thanks, guess i dont need swap though, nothing is being used :D
  11. I have 1.5GB of ram. I don't have any swap, should I have some? If so is there an easy way to have one of my existing partitions used as swap?
  12. or just open the dir in konqueror and select iconview or photobook view from the view menu (you could also make your icons even bigger to get bigger thumbnails in the iconview)
  13. Welcome to MUB :D You are a user you need to login as root with su first, I don't have wireless but did you already try from the mandriva control center to configure it? (type mcc in a console to go to the control center...) edit: you can also start the configuration program in a console as root with drakroam
  14. correct, right click the window border to adjust metisse settings.....
  15. I dont use linux to destroy ms, us$50 for a full os is a very good price...
  16. Hmmm, for US$50 I would buy the Vista license and then install linux myself....
  17. This is useally easily fixable: as root type XFdrake, and try to get a working X back then you can try to get nvidia working again (probably you will need to install the correct kernel source run XFdrake again, else try to uninstall dkms-nvidia and reinstall dkms-nvidia and run XFdrake again...)
  18. Under linux, you rarely have to reinstall, stick around till someone has a solution and you'll know how to fix this problems if (when) it happens again. Anyways for starterd for others can you post your /var/log/Xorg.0.log or at least the relevant bits with errors (EE) and warnings (WW)
  19. I am guessing you are also not seeing any window borders? If so then you need to add this to your /etc/X11/xorg.conf under the device section and restart: Option "AddARGBGLXVisuals" "True" @chiara, I have no idea if the test screen works you should be able to get an X running
  20. the dkms-ati one is the propietary one... anyway try mv /etc/X11/xorg.conf /etc/X11/xorg.conf.backup (or use a livecd or other distro you might have installed or urpmi mc and use mc....) and run XFdrake again choosing the non proprietary driver at least you will get X back......
  21. you didnt need to remove dkms first it would just have compiled a new kernel module and put it a directory for the new kernel, this explains why the driver doesnt work with the old kernel anymore either.... I have an nvidia card not ati, so dont know to much about the peculiarities of ati but did you run XFdrake already? You should at least be able to select the non proprietary driver and get an X going....
  22. install the kernel source, stripped should be enough urpmi kernel-source-stripped-latest and then: XFdrake (case sensitive!) should do the trick
  23. the links works, you just needed to delete the ) at the and: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/hplip/+bug/107064
  24. it does nut the first 2 post (my post and scoonma's answer didnt...)
  25. I had to do ping -M do -s 1500 www.blabla.com to find out my max mtu btw why doesnt this thread show up in the new posts!?
