    Printer problem

When the printer is connected to the computer and i start it up i get the following message; Please insert the medium named "installation i586 CD 1" on device [/dev/hdc] I have been looking for a driver and have found "hplip-2.7.7.run". So could someone tell this old n00b how i can install the driver please. Thanks for all help and advice.
  2. The reason for inquiring how to change the Root and General User's password is because i left the information on my desk and now i keep finding programs i never knew existed or wanted on my computer. Thanks for all the info guys!
  3. Could someone tell me if it is possible to change my Root and User passwords please. As i have just found out that a member of my family has been using my computer without my permission. Thanks [moved from Installing Mandriva by spinynorman]
  4. Have found RPM Search no problem but can't figure out which file to download. Help anyone please! Cheers
  5. Have been trying and failing to install the latest version of Skype. Whenever i double click on the Skype rpm file and then click on install i am informed that: Some requested packages cannot be installed: skype-1.4.0.99-mdv.i586 (due to unsatisfied libQtDBus.so.4) continue installation anyway. Hope someone can help me find a way around this problem. Thanks in advance

    Printer problem

Hi SoulSe To be honest with you i am a Linux n00b and although i use a NETGEAR DG834G Modem/Router to get online i have connected the Photosmart C4180 All-in-One to my computer. I didn't even know about using a Linux driver from HP or even how to install one if i did. Could i connect the printer to the ModemRouter via another Ethernet cable? Any help and advice would be really appreciated. Big thanks
  7. I have just purchased an HP Photosmart C4180 All-in-One printer, copier, scanner and set it up to my computer which is running Mandriva Spring "Free". I connect to the internet via a Netgear DG834G Modem/Router but for some reason it will not print out anything. Would appreciate any and all help and advice. Big thanks
  8. Another problem that i have had with the current install is that i cannot access any websites belonging to my ISP "Tiscali" and i am hoping that the new install using the boxed version of Mandriva Spring may resolve this?
  9. So i could just place the boxed version's dvd/cd into the drive and let it over write the previous install?
  10. I am currently running Mandriva Spring "Free" which i obtained from a computer magazine but having a lot of problems with the program sticking and crashing etc. So i have decided to purchase the boxed version of Mandriva Spring and would like to find out if it would be possible to install the boxed version of Mandriva over the "free" version. Thanks for any help/advice.
  11. Have typed: about:config and scrolled down to "ipv6" doubled clicked to disable it and then rebooted computer but still can't access Tiscali site?
  12. I'm sorry for being so thick Ian but could you tell me where to type the above commands please
  13. Know this is going to seem stupid but i've forgotten how/where to check if Firefox has got JavaScript enabled. I also use Konqueror and Opera browsers and experience the same problem with them as well. I went upto the main menu in Firefox and under "Tools" i clicked on "Error Console" and there's a load of problems there? Really appreciate any and all help.
  14. Hello Ian I opened a terminal/konsole as you suggested and typed: $ host tiscali.co.uk and got back exactly the same details as yourself. So i then opened up Firefox and typed: http://212.74.99.30 and the Tiscali Website did appear although i was unable to access any of it's content/pages.
  15. Riight! I am running Mandriva Spring and i get online via a NetGear "DG834G" Wireless ADSL Modem/Router. I have had no problem what-so-ever surfing the web except i cannot access my ISP's website at: http://www.tiscali.co.uk/forums/index.php? All i get is the following message: Unable to connect Firefox can't establish a connection to the serverat www.tiscali.co.uk The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few moments. If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network connection. If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure that Firefox is permitted to access the web
