This is the result of not advertising free membership: nobody knows about it. Not to mention that free membership has 3 different names: Alumni (in the forum), Alumnus (club login) and Aluminium on various places. That's really confusing.

Since 2007 it's not entirely true. All directories including Main and Contrib have four subdirectories: release, testing, backports and update. Instead of Easyurpmi you can use http://www.mandrivauser.de/smarturpmi It's already updated with the 2007.1 repos and has some nice features over Easyurpmi. But if you are using 2007.1 you only have to use them if you want to add the plf repos. Because the first time you launch the package manager tool (rpmdrake) it pops up a window asking if you want to add some mirrors. You only have to choose from the mirror list. Add both the Distribution and the update sources. Also from the 2007.1 release you have a free update tool which automatically checks for updates. You don't have to use the command line for that.

Actually mdkonline is just a wizard for subscription. What RVDowning needs is mdkapplet. I had to use it with the -f switch otherwise it wouldn't start or it starts only as root but it disappears then after reboot. With the -f switch it's perfect.

What it always meant. If you play honest and buy the films you want to watch then you get some disadvantages for your money.

What did you order? 2007 or 2007.1? I think they are taking preorders for that. 2007.1 is the new release and it's not out yet so it's too early to complain. This is an unofficial fan site so I can assure you that the management of Mandriva doesn't bother to read this with a few exceptions. You should write to the official forum on club.mandriva.com.

2007.1 has KDE 3.5.6 by default, isn't it? Why would you make another build?

Easyurpmi is an independent project just like us.

Either install FF2 first if you haven't done it already or upgrade to 2007.1 which has FF2 by default.

Mandriva has Mandriva online which hasn't been working for a long time. Now they are completely rewriting it and the soon to be released 2007.1 will have it. You may haven't heard about it because it was for pay only service.If you are interested in unofficial solutions then the package manager smart has an update applet called ksmarttray.

Is that when things are not compiled as modules, or a non-modular kernel? No it's a different thing. It's related with priorities. There are different prioroties for different processes e.g if the kernel needs data from a disk controller has a bigger priority than if you paste something from the clipboard into your spreadsheet application. In monolithic kernel a lot of things are built into the kernel and they are all communicating with each other with top priorities. While in a micro kernel only a few basic tasks are in the kernel (like memory handling) everything else is in user space. That makes micro kernels safer but slower. But a monolithic kernel can be modular too. I have a question too. Does compiling the kernel to a newer arch (i686, athlonxp etc) make it faster?

Go to the hardware database page. Make a search. There's an "export in csv format" link on the bottom of the page which you can open in OpenOffice Calc.

In Kde you have to right click on the panel you already have (called kicker) and choose Add new panel\Panel. There is a new panel on your old one now. Right click on it and choose Configure to place it somewhere else on the screen and change the size etc.

Depends on the point of view. They call this new series a remake but I saw the film and the first episode of the series and I can tell the new series is a way more different and not just with video tricks. Anyway this looks like a game I would really like to play with. I wonder how much it will cost.

Cooker will be frozen when they release 2007.1 final. Until then the source of updates for 2007.1 is cooker. It's very likely the last RC so I think it will be out in about 10 days.

I never tried to install Oscar5 or anything related to clustering but I checked for expat in 2007 and it's in main. Since your installation couldn't even find it you either have to setup your sources with easyurpmi (see top of this page) and add urpmi or use 2007. edit: checked for expat in 2006 and it's also there e.g. ftp://ftp.proxad.net/.mirrors2/ftp.mandri...586/media/main/ So try easyurpmi first.
