Fedora 11 (Leonidas) is out. Some of the major new features are:

  • Automatic font and mime-type installation
  • Simpler volume control
  • Intel, ATI and Nvidia kernel modsetting
  • Fingerprint - making fingerprint readers easy to use as an authentication mechanism.
  • IBus input method system - the new default input method for Asian languages
  • Presto - update with delta rpms

I've been waiting for it...(I got a subject called Operating Systems...the professor likes fedora ;) )

I have it already up and running on my laptop and so far it works very well. Pleasant colours, good behaviour, good response time and the Live-installer got better, too. Being a long-long-time Red Hat/Fedora user, I must admit that this release is way better than the previous two releases, which I found rather irritating. Seems as if the developers got back on the right track after making some weird decisions in the past years.
