misfitpierce
Mandriva Online 2.16-1mdv2007.1 The mandriva online thing in top right corner (GNOME DESKTOP) inside little circle.... It never worked in mandriva 2007.0 and always said up to date on me but the one in 2007.1 Spring turns red and tells me there are packages waiting to be installed! ianw1974
Aye, the applet has been broken a long time now. They said they'd fix it in 2007.1. Cool Incidently, you also had to pay to use it before too. Nice it's free now, like in most distros.
misfitpierce
Indeed... Very happy about that
RVDowning
I've still never seen it. Am using KDE. I've checked all the menu's on the system, and I don't seem to have it. Should I urpmi mdkonline, or does it go by a different name?
misfitpierce
Thats what I was referring too. In 2007.0 it does not work and always says up to date with green check mark. The newly updated update system now turns red when packages are ready for install!
RVDowning
My point was that I've never seen it, and don't know how to get it. I looked at all the applets that could be added to the system tray and didn't see anything related. What name does it go by, so that I could urpmi it, or otherwise find it? arctic
I guess the name of the app you ask for is mdk-check-update-common mdk-check-update-gnome But I could be wrong...
RVDowning
Thanks, but it doesn't exist for KDE yet. It is planned, though.
misfitpierce
Well I just tried out 2007.0 KDE on diff pc and it had it, and that screenshot of KDE for 2007.1 has it so im pretty sure it would exist. Are you sure you got a good install or are not missing it?
dexter11
Actually mdkonline is just a wizard for subscription. What RVDowning needs is mdkapplet. I had to use it with the -f switch otherwise it wouldn't start or it starts only as root but it disappears then after reboot. With the -f switch it's perfect. RVDowning
Thanks dexter11. I'll hunt around for mdkapplet when I get home, or urpmi it if necessary. I did install mdk-check-update-common, but am still not sure of what it does, or even if I need it for anything.
mystified
Well I installed 2007.1. I haven't had much of a chance to play with it yet. I'll wait until the easy-urpmi mirrors are set up but once again I am very disappointed with kde. They continue to ruin it by changing up the menu. If only they would leave it as the default. It's so much better.
scarecrow
Agree with mysti. The "OpenDesktop" way to implement menus is just fine, there is absolutely no reason for Mandriva to screw it.
RVDowning
Hmmm. Didn't even notice they had done anything with the KDE menus. Guess I'll have to poke my nose into it tonight.
mystified
They haven't done anything new with the KDE menus. Mandriva has always screwed them up. Other distros that I use have the default KDE way and it's just so much better. It's set up where it's easier to understand. Mandriva choses to put software in weird categories so it's harder to find. I'm just baffled with why they do it.
