solarian
Hello, I intend to buy a scanner, but before I do Linux compability comes into mind  So, how does Mandriva recognize and deal with USB scanners? I am thinking of a HP scanner, nothing too extreme, something around HP ScanJet 3800 or maybe Canon CanoScan LiDE 500F. I need an inexpensive scanner for scanning artwork... The problem is that most of these ar photography oriented.. and I still want good quality (it's for an animation film I'm making with some friends) Maybe you can advise a good scanner for this? SoulSe
Also checkout Xsane - the graphical frontend to SANE. You should be able to urpmi xsane and it'll install sane as a dependancy. If your scanner isn't SANE compliant, then there are other options too.
AussieJohn
You cannot go wrong with EPSON scanners. They have a good, even excellent association with the Linux community in developing suitable drivers. I am currently using a Perfection 2450 Photo but it would be superb for art work and not just Photography (can scan slides and negatives as well). Basically any scanner that can do excellent scans of photos is more than enough to do great scans of artwork. The difference is in the software, not the hardware. Xsane the scanner software can do anything that the proprietary software can do especially in the case of EPSON. My choice was helped initially by finding that more photographers and artists in this region used Epson despite the heavy advertising of all the other brands. I have not been disappointed. Cheers. John.
arctic
Canon is always a good choice. Affordable, compatible and very good results.
solarian
Thanx for the suggestions! :) I'll have a look at Epson Epson Expression 2480 seems nice
scarecrow
I have an Epson Perfection 1640SU for some 4 years (replaced a HP trashcan-of-a-scanner) and up to date my only complaint is the price I paid to buy it (more than $ 300). But it's worth every penny, plus more.
coverup
I have an all-in-one Canon MPC360. Printer worked under 10.1 (I haven't had tried printing since I upgraded to LE2005 few days ago). Is it possible to get the scanner to work?
arctic
Basically, if everything was supported in 10.1 it should work in LE2005, too. Did the scanner work in 10.1 or only the printer?
pmpatrick
I second the support for Epson. My old Epson Perfection 1200U has worked perfectly from day one.
jboy
Even scanning with the Epson multi-function printer/scanner/copier machines can work with xsane. I have an Epson CX6600 and scanning works great on both 10.1 and LE2005.
polemicz
Another plus for Epson is their Iscan package. I use a Perfection 1660 Photo and have never had a problem with it. Iscan hsa some very nice options, especially for scanning negatives and slides.
sellis
I have a HP PSC1215 all-in-one, which I managed to get working under 10.0, both scanning and printing, and I'm very happy with it so far. The settings survived the migration to 2005LE, too.
Trio3b
The above are excellent choices. If price is an issue, the flatbed Microtek C6 USB is outdated but will be picked up automatically by MDK 10.0 and up and can be had( used )for $5 to $15 US
