Guest ump
I would like some feedback on a good NIC to buy. I am having Cable Internet installed tomorrow (finally) I will be using a Motorola SB4200 w/ a Netgear MR314 router. I am hoping for a easy install. Insight Communications is providing the cable. If anyone has a helpful hint they would be most appreciated. ump
ezroller
I'd get a netgear nic if you can find one.
fuzzylizard
People may disagree with this, but I have used several cards with a Realtek chipset on them and have never had a problem. The cards that I would recommend are D-Link and RealTek.

DragonMage
I think modern linux support for NIC is so extensive that it will be harder to find a card that is NOT compatible with linux. Heck, I am using the built in NIC in the motherboard and mandrake 8.2 to 9.0 detects it flawlessly. Of course, if you want peace of mind, any brand name NIC will do. It's a matter of chipset really. Realtek chipset is basically used in almost all new built in NICs and some pci NICs. Anyway, if you spend more than 15 bux for NIC, you are spending too much, especially for such a low bandwidth device such as cablemodem / DSL. I installed it along with the router and cable modem and aervice with no problems (at least that I can say was due to linux I personally screwed up a couple of settings butthat's another story) My cable servise is running great. :D

SoulSe
I have good experiences with LG (Goldstar) NICs. They vary heavily from country to country though. Well, you're already sorted out, but for what it's worth.
3lade
I've always used either D-Link or Netgear. Never had problem in MS or Linux yet.
Guest ndeb
I am using 3 different cards here: 1. D-link (realtek 8139) 2. Accton Technology (realtek 8139) 3. 3com (3c590) The D-link and Accton cards are 2+ years old while the 3com card is even older. All working just fine.
