Guess what Dumb-butt I did?

Wanted to mount my windows partition on my gaming machine. Wasn't really sure on how to do that with Ubuntu. So I went into #Ubuntu and asked a couple of questions and I was finally able to mount my /c drive. Well that really wasn't the spot I was looking for. SO before I umounted it I just happen to run rm -rf /c because that wasn't the mout point I wanted and I wanted to get rid of that mount point. I wanted /windows so I could go everywhere on that partition. Key words in this paragraph "SO before I umounted it I just happen to run rm -rf /c because that wasn't the mout point I wanted".

Anyone guess what happen? :lol2::lol2::lol2::lol2::lol2:

"rm -rf /c"

Lemme think...

- "rm"= remove

- "-r" = recursively (all directories recursive)

- "-f" = ??

- "/c" = your Windoze C partition??

Am I correct in saying you erased everything from your C drive? My CLI knowledge is rusty ATM.

Even if so, I still don't understand your explanation:

...because that wasn't the mount point I wanted

One wonders if this was a freudian thing (you know when the sub conscious takes over!).

you see, the inner self has wanted to get rid of windows for years and now its done it.

the sub concious mind is at least 10 times stronger than the conscious (according to my private brain care specialist lol) after all, the sub-conscious is trusted so much, it is given control of your heart beat and your breathing !!

and your sub-conscious wants to rid your life of windows once and for all !!!

take advice from my analyst always trust your sub-conscious roflmao.

that advice cost me $20,000 ha ha ha lol lol lol

hey who is that in that white coat, they look friendly ..........................................................

Well reb2 you might be right, heres "the rest of the story....."

I tried twice to install XP Pro. Had all the updates installed. Then installed AVG anti-virus. Well that hosed up and I couldn't get any updates installed. So I uninstalled it. Next was install Partition Magic 8 and make room for linux. Well I made the changes I wanted in the program and rebooted. Part way through the operation on boot PM 8 hosed up and I wasn't able to boot anymore. So re-install again. This time just did the updates. Installed PM8 and convert from NTFS to Fat32 that went fine. Then tried again to make room for linux. I applied the changes and reboot again for PM 8 to do its thing. Guess what? It hose up again and I couldn't boot up the pc AGAIN!!!!

So my next logical answer was throw in the Ubutnu CD format the WHOLE PC to Linux. Not installing XP at all.

So thats where I'm at now. Only one pc left in the house running dual boot with XP/Linux. Someday in the future I may build another gaming pc so I can race Nascar and other games that don't work well in Linux. At least now I know when the kids go on any pc in the house I don't have to worry about viruses and crap. The other pc that still dual boots never gets into XP.

So there you have it. Windows is now gone forever on that pc. To be honest it is a little heartbreaking because I use to and still do really enjoy racing.

I have a simmilar problem. due to some tinkering and a disasterous error on the windows side the windows is gone since mid may. I can not install another windows on this box anymore. format washed all the winerror pain away, but I desperately want to play some games.. so now my top priority is to get a new pc and shape it into a windows based game console. don't have the money though :(

p.s. transgaming (cedega) just isn't there yet
