  1. I would like to create a musiccollection in vorbis-format. I can ofcourse compy first all to disk and then with meencoder or something decode, but isn't there a program that encodes automatically?
  2. Have you the right mouseprotocol in your X11-file(see man pages:" man mouse"? tried mousedrake or mouseconfig again

    suggestions?

I'm on a run tonight.... Am interested in digital cameras and was thinking if no one here has one or has done "research" on it, or just no some about them Any suggestions? Please also tell why ofcourse:) What I'm interested in? Like many buyers I suppose, good price quality. maybe also long batterylife or how long does those camera's work. Suppose such a displayscreen uses some power.

    filesystems

I've spoke alreasy about this somewhere, but I'm searching for RECENT benchmarks of the diierent filesystem, espcially about reiserfs and xfs. I've only encountered benchmarks from 2001(-2002). Wanted to use xfs for media-partition. Read so far that xfs and reiserfs are close and that reiserfs is good in handling small files, especially deleting them and xfs for fast recovery for tons of files. Read xfs can handle files as large as million of terabytes. For the storagemedia of the future. got the impression that xfs is good for media, but need more info...Both will probably be good, but just want to know....:)
  5. Just something about hp-printers I've read and maybe interest you what is supported(maybe more): The hp driver project provides printing support for more than 150 printer models, including, DeskJet, OfficeJet, Photosmart, Business Inkjet and some LaserJet. The hp Linux Inkjet Driver Project is a add-on to the GNU Ghostscript application. For more information on the interaction between Ghostscript and the hp Inkjet Server (HPIJS), refer to the driver architecture (new interface in V. 1.0).
  6. Sometimes you have to search with goole or on rpmfind.net, will help. if you don't like the gimp, here are some others I found: under LGPL: http://afterstep.sourceforge.net/afterimag.../afterimage.php http://www.ntlug.org/~ccox/impress/Main.html Maybe there are some others. Ok, they aren't so good as photshop maybe, you'll have to see what you want for yourself. I agree that "The Gimp" is not easy to use, but once you know how to...to my opninion it's getting powerfull, certainly with all those plugins. If it is your printer-driver, look at the xtra packages for the gimp like stated above and install those if you haven't
  7. 1 minute or less to check all 3 cd's, mostley your time to compare the strings. The checking takes a couple or seconds or so I believe
  8. IUf you mean prm-verifying, that is done already as far as I know, for the cd's, just use the command: md5sum cdName. it gives the md5sum and you can check it with the file you find with the iso's. There is an option --check(for automatically comparison), but don't know the exact format for that. Anyway, this takes maybe one minute or less.

    cd-romwriter

Can you buy any cdrom-writer-dvdreader. Is there a standarddevicedriver for this?
  10. It 's a problem that your computer hangs, but the red screen is normal if you didn't know that.... It is not recommended that you start up root in graphicalmode, I suppose it is not so secure or something, but don't know that for sure. Is "no apps" and error, o just no applications? I suppose the last.Is there an error listed on the logs? you can view something in textmode (if you wouldn't know, but I think you do) by "view filename". exist bij pressing ":q" and enter. It would be easier if there was an error message or something... µ£I blieve I have had the problem also in rc1, but only once I think..
  11. There exist an "illegal" plugin for gnupg, so that it can also decode IDEA-keys. It is listed somewhere on the website of gnupg :).
  12. windowsprograms for pgp are compatibe with gnupg, except for IDEA(somthing like that)-encryption, because there is a pantent on that till 2007. For the rest they should be compatible....By the way, use RSA: I believe it is the most secure form of communication. I suppose you have already made you key.
  13. goinf to try to help you... first you'll have to create a directory in "/mnt" where you want to filesystem. first try if the following wil work...ok, you know it is connected to hdb..You can do "cat /proc/partitions" and look for "part". See if the harddisk (you'll have to know if it is ide0 or ide1 or so...or by elimination) has other partitions(very likely) and choose to partition you want to mount. You'll maybe know a better method, please tell it then it is easier for me the nextr time :). so do: x is a number mount -t vfat /dev/hdbx /mnt/directoryYouCreated this works for me, but during install mandrake also added "iocharset=iso8859-15,codepage=850 0 0 I don''t know what this means, can anyone tell me? Another thing, fat has no user,...for each file, so the filesystelm is onlu mounted for root. I haven't figured out how to mount it, so I can acces it as normal user, but I haven't figured out yet, probably something with the user-option, maybe something else can tell that...

How can I enable ipv6 instead of ipv4? Or is it already enabled?

    émail

I'm getting émails of someone I don't know..., but I'm keeping messages of the person. This is the header: How must I interpret "may be forged"? Received: from mail.worldnet.att.net (200-171-37-156.speedyterra.com.br [200.171.37.156] (may be forged)) by wanadoo.be (8.12.2/8.12.2) with SMTP id h2JNuldg2128499 for <wamb4060@wanadoo.be>; Thu, 20 Mar 2003 00:57:06 +0100 (MET) Received: from [110.96.71.98] (helo=mail.worldnet.att.net)
  19. I'm not sure of it. I'll answer with something I'm sure off: It doesn't crash when I use the opensourcedrivers
  20. Mandrake 9.0 was the first time I really chose my partitions om my own. I have a 3GB root-partition that also contains "/var", but I don't see the use of that size, because at the moment only 300MB is occupied. I'm thinking of making "var" 1 GB(although it is probably to big) and "root" 500MB the next time. I'm thinking making "/tmp" 100MB smaller: from 300Mb to 200 MB(if thatisn't to big also). I think the space would be better used for "/usr" or "/media" nect time. By tha way, does anybody now a good filesystem for media. I'm going to make everuthing reiserfs nect time(maybe considering root ext3). Although the diiferences are maybe small, but how is "XFS"->think is silliconvalley-format??.
  21. thanks, will try it.
  22. It is something more complicated, but you can also install prelude if you want. It is additional to shorewall, like shorewall it works with the ip-tables of linux. What it does(from their websites).(It is additional to a firewall!): 2.5 What IDS can do ? (by prole@subterrain.net) * Monitor and analyze user, system, and network activity * Audit system configurations and scan for vulnerabilities * Assess data integrity of critical files * Recognize indications of known attacks * Recognize abnormal activity * Manage audit trails and assist in analysis But it is something more complicated...you can always visit their website if you want: http://www.prelude-ids.org
  23. It seems ok but what is the use for it? Ok, if you have a local lan or any network, this proxy is handy, but else, what is better than not having it. Mozilla contains also popup-killing, image-blocking and a cookie-manager. I think you can also prevent redirection, but don't find it at the moment...
  24. I've build them from tar. If you build them from (I suppose) SRPM...How does it go? I've laways builded from tar, or just installed with rpm.
