Yes. As long as it is a true external serial modem and not some cheap external winmodem, you are making a very wise decision.

I don't know if it is just this particular piece of hardware or if it is all USB mice, but without harddrake, my USB mouse does not work. Apparently, for some reason, it has to be detected by harddrake at every boot.

There are no LE2005 ISOs there...only 10.1. The ISOs are available by joining the Club. Another false alarm brought to you by iphitus :P

Then none of your pkgs are missing any files. Amazing. -
I'm using instructions from here: http://www.infocraft.com/projects/ffcounter/ To work on a counter for my website. Here's what I am working on: http://semperphi.com/firefox-test.html As you can see, I cannot figure out how to get the digits to show up exactly where I want them to, in the blank space beneath 'Firefox' . Secondly, I would love to be able to convert the text digits to animated odometer digits like this: Or even better animations so that you actually see it 'rolling' up if you can point me to those. Any tips, pointers, pushes in the right direction would be appreciated.

I just tried it and went to this site (it was the first site on the list at the Best Flash Animation Sites website, so don't hold it against me): http://www.luvgalz.com/ It crashed Firefox. Regular ol' Flash Player 7 plays it fine.

What is the output of this command, run as root? rpm -Va --nodeps --nomd5 --noscripts | grep missing | grep -v "/dev/" -
For kscd, it expects a link /dev/cdrom As root ln -s /dev/hdc /dev/cdrom Assuming of course your cdrom/dvd is /dev/hdc. Or you could click Extras -> Configure kscd and select the proper /dev/ name

Check out this: http://forums.viaarena.com/messageview.asp...yword1=Mandrake Also, make sure plug and play is disabled in the BIOS. If neither works, try hitting F1 at the boot prompt and type expert noapic Also possibly 10.1 has better support for this and you might try that if you can get it. ftp://ftp.club-internet.fr/pub/unix/linux.../iso/10.1/i586/

konqueror can do 'dual pane' like that. If you like that view, click View -> Text View then Window -> Split View - Left/Right Midnight Commander is also a good split-view console file manager a la Norton Commander.

Script to Repair Installation
Steve Scrimpshire replied to Steve Scrimpshire's topic in Tips and Tricks
I meant the file called missing_files.list that the script creates in the directory you run the script from. If the file does not exist, it means either: (a) You do not have write permissions in the directory you run the script from (b) None of your rpms are missing any files, which is highly doubtful -
file extension
Steve Scrimpshire replied to mikey_111's topic in Command Line, Kernel and Programming
File extensions mean absolutely nothing to Linux. The file /usr/sbin/sndconfig is probably just a shell script that calls the compiled C program sndconfig.real and they just call them that, so you know that one is the one you call and the other is the one that actually does the work. I can call a file script.thisonereallyworks or script.thisonecallstheonethatreallyworks if I want. -

Hmmm... no argument to your request sounds like you aren't missing any files. Can you attach your missing_files.list to a post here? You'll have to rename it to missing_files.txt to get it to attach. It'll be in the same directory you run the script from. -
Which Mandrake version was the best one?
Steve Scrimpshire replied to arctic's topic in Everything Linux
But how can a typical user know that it was MDK that nukled their CD-ROM? Yes, it turned out that the boot wasn't nuked, but I'm sure several people reinstalled Windows and only tried the MDK install once more if any. -
I do ssh into my computer on a non-stnndard ssh port (23) using no-ip.com. Works fine.

Which Mandrake version was the best one?
Steve Scrimpshire replied to arctic's topic in Everything Linux
I voted 'Other' because every release has been better than the one before it for me. Also, adamw, the LG 'fiasco' wasn't Mandrake's fault....Now, destroying the WinXP boot with 10.0 was :P
