  1. Come on! Monopoly isn't that bad. If LGP ported it to Linux, I'd buy it.
  2. That floppy problem is probably because of supermount... I know that other games wouldn't install without disabling supermount (UT for one).
  3. I guess you could try using checkinstall, but you'll have to use it with a script for make modules_install and the copying... you'll have to edit your grub config by hand though, or make symlinks to the files you copied over (could be bad if you mess something up and don't know how to recover).

What the...? You know my name is DOlson. There's no zeros or capital Ls in it. If you need to, I have a copy-paste tutorial on my site... ;) Anyhow, WineX sucks. I was infected by Windows once, and then I found a cool virus removal utility called DiskDrake. Neat, actually.
  5. Well, then your pricing system is fscked. But anyhow, if you're happy with it, that's cool. I just bought a GF4 Ti4200 not long ago, and what happens? The NV30 (GFFX) is out!$!@$%@#%^#$&^

    Video Players....

The RPMs from http://mdkextras.by-a.com/ work just fine for me. That may be because I made them though... ;)
  7. If you want to write up a separate tutorial in the style (formatting, word usage, etc) of my OSS tutorial, I'm willing to put it up on my site (you get credit, obviously). I use OSS because I rarely use MIDI and ALSA sounds like tin cans to me. But I'd try ALSA again, just to see. Also, Bass/Treble controls are of utmost importance for a tutorial, as well as rear speaker output. If you don't want to, that's fine. I won't be doing it though. :)
  8. [dana@digory dana]$ free -m total used free shared buffers cached Mem: 503 489 14 0 0 191 -/+ buffers/cache: 297 206 Swap: 94 4 89 [dana@digory dana]$ It's not that unusual, really. Linux uses memory more efficiently than Windows and so on, as well as the fact that a lot of RAM is in unused buffers.
  9. Bah. ATI doesn't release drivers for their tuner cards... BUT, they DO work. I've set some up before for friends. I know that they work. If I had one, I'd write a tutorial or something... If one was needed. Mandrake 8.2 and 9.0, IIRC, both come with all you need to make them work.

Since you're not sure about me, I'll tell you about me. I buy and play Linux games. That's it. And last I checked, WineX was limited to something like 50 frames per second, no matter what game. Often, it would perform less than that too. Maybe they fixed it, but I don't really care.
  11. I like Mandrake Linux perfectly the way it is. The day they start fscking around with stuff like Red Hat does, or removing Gnome or whatever entirely like Lycoris, is the day I switch to LFS. Mandrake is great, and if they stay the way they are, they will appeal to both new users and more advanced users (I mean come on! Some of the guys who port games ot Linux even use it), without sacrificing choices. Don't get me wrong - Red Hat and Lycoris have their place, but I think that it's not really gonna take over (Lycoris esp., RH has a chance). Lycoris especially loses something... I don't know how to really describe it... I recommend everyone who can and wants to to use a spare partition to test out as many distros as possible. You'll never find one better than Mandrake. IMHO. ;)
  12. Yeah, I'm waiting. So is http://nwn.by-a.com/ Luckily I got to play it for about two weeks before I diteched the Windows partition for good.
  13. That's no prob. You're a newbie. You'll learn. :) I hope my tutorials can help you!
  14. There was a post about Timidity++ and so on with PRBoom on the older forum(s) I think... I usually leave XMMS playing, so I don't know. If someone emails me the steps properly, I can try it and write up a proper tutorial. It's not high on my priority list though. :)

    Video Out?

It's completely possible that the tutorial doesn't work 100%. I only have one monitor, so the only TwinView I've done is with a monitor and a TV. I've had some people look it over, and they said that it worked, so I think it should be fine.
  16. Hey, you can have multiple layouts in your XF86Config-4 file, and then just choose the one you want when you start X. Check out my TwinView tutorial for an example of how to do it (don't copy the code, just look at how to utilize multiple server layouts). If that doesn't help you, sorry. :(
  17. The GeForce4 MX is a waste of your money. You should have just bought a GeForce2 MX for half the price, as they are basically the same chipset... The GeForce3 cards were NV20s, the GF4s are NV25s, and the GeForce4 MX card is a... NV17. NVidia mislabelled that one big-time. I'm not being a snob, and if you ever looked at my site, I do help people... I just don't post too much on this board anymore (basically at school when I'm bored) because of many different reasons. People ask the same questions over and over again, and at one point it didn't bother me, but now it does. I mean, why have 4 or 5 threads side by side that are the same? But you're a n00b, so I'll forgive you.

You *could* just boot into Windows and play the game at full-speed, but what do I know?
  19. Actually, Kate's plugin isn't *that* bad... I guess I'll use it until something else comes along. Any ideas are welcome.
  20. If you are familiar with Quanta, it's great. You can have a bunch of files and directories all associated as a project. Then, you load the project file and it loads the directory structure in the left pane... You can edit the files on the right pane. I want a text editor that does that (for programming). Preferably with syntax highlighting (as Quanta has for webpage source), but not a necessity. What I don't want is a bloated IDE (KDevelop), something that automates everything, or something that doesn't manage projects properly (Kate). Any ideas?
  21. Yes, and so do the people who are working their asses off trying to bring native games into the world of Linux users. So do others: http://timedoctor.org/boycott_winex.php

    Havy Metal

I'm already working on that. In my next update, I'm going to add the native games to the list that is already there... http://mdkxp.by-a.com/htm/articles/gamelist.php
  23. Why would you want both? I only know two people who got suckered into buying a GF4 MX, and they both had dual monitors on them. If yours doesn't have dual monitors, then you *really* got ripped.
  24. Don't forget about http://mdkextras.by-a.com/!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  25. arise, I have the same thing as you. I don't think that there is a fix. Just have to wait for it to get better.
