  1. I have switched between Mandrake and Red Hat/Fedora over the years. Red Hat has done a lot of good things with this release, but I find it lacking as a distro. There still is no graphical menu editor in GNOME. As previously mentioned, there are a lot of automatic processes running daily that are quite annoying. Also, you need to download a lot of the multimedia stuff from third party repositories. For a home user, I think Mandrake is better and more user-friendly than Fedora. Afterall, Fedora is a test bed for Red Hat Enterprise Linux.
  2. I use KDE. I like GNOME, but the fact that colours can't be changed easily is a huge drawback for me. What if I like a theme with its widgets, window decorations and whatnot, but I just want to change a titlebar colour? Can't be done easily in GNOME. It's a small thing, granted, but it just bugs me. Cheers.
  3. Oh and who can forget the infamous Red Hat 7, aka Guiness? That was so bad, they had to re-release the ISOs within a week or two.
  4. Aren't the amount of updates more about a new version of KDE, 3.1.3 to 3.1.4? I know there was a screensaver problem with the KDE in MDK9.2, but I don't think it's fair to say the 300MB of updates are all bug fixes. Cheers!
  5. I usually get my copy from www.chguy.net. The first time ordering by cheque, he waits for the cheque then ships. After that, you say the word and he sends out the CDs and waits for payment. He charges $5 per CD. Since I'm impatient, I cough up another $5 for Express Post delivery. Each release ends up costing $20. Regards....Paul
  6. Hi, I use Mandrake 9.0 and I keep getting the 'Removable media' icon on my desktop. It never used to be there. It started appearing when I changed my DVD drive and floppy drive from Supermount to manual mount. I had to do this because I was having problems reading DVDs from my DVD drive. I turned it back to Supermount, but the icon keeps appearing. BTW..it seems that Supermount wasn't the problem. Having the type set to auto seems to be the culprit. Having supermount enabled and type set to 'ISO9660' seems to be OK. Which leads me back to my problem.....that annoying icon! Thanks....Paul
