I've been messing around with The Gimp, and don't really have any good fonts nor do i know of any sites. So anyone know some good font sites? with some stylish fonts. :P

Bah install debian "etch" it's much more fun than ubuntu and it now recieves security updates. :o

Mandriva is a great distro, and i would love to use it again. I looked through the bug tracker, it says the nforce4 bug is fixed. So at least they are ironing out these bugs, but i'll have to wait for the next release of mandriva. (Although i hear a beta is out this month)

Easy to use? Well that's if it actually installs. If you have some new hardware your going to run into all problems with mandriva. Even debian works with my nforce4 chipset, where mandrake fails miserably.

I liked ubuntu at first aswell, but the more i got "deeper in" i found out how crippled it was. The out-of date thing annoyed me aswell, debian etch will still continue to be more up-to date than ubuntu, maybe not with the latest gnome but with things like gaim and xchat, yes. Gentoo really is great for up-to date software, it's just everytime you upgrade it seems something breaks.

FC4 is a great distro, but it's not without it's problems. Java doesn't work the usual way, i usually install it in /usr/java so it works well with azureus but for some reason azureus dies at the splash screen. There is also a huge lack of flac support in the repositorys which is a suprise to me since flac is open source. So although i like FC4 little things like that annoy me, so it's back to debian for me. I still say all distros suck, it's just some suck less than others. :P

I just installed FC4, the install was very smooth! It detected everything and everything was working on first boot, this is the very first distro to succeed in that department! It also has great support for other languages, i installed korean, japanese and chinese. No messing around simple, fast and clean install. So far everything is working really well, this could be the distro i've been looking for all along.

It's taking ages! 3 hours to go. cybrjackle, im still blaming you if it's bad. :P

Downloading it now! It better be good, since im formatting over my debian partiton with FC4.

I can't get Arch to work on my computer because for some reason my keyboard doesn't work as soon as i push enter to boot. So i would like to try Archie and maybe it will work better with the keyboard. Plus i'm always bored! Need something to do, testing distros is fun aslong as it doesn't corrupt my HD like a certain distro did. -_-

Arctic thanks a lot for that, i think that might just of fixed it. I followed step 3 and also disabled ipv6 in firefox webpages load a lot faster now, i just hope my problem doesn't return. Oh and i lost all data on my harddrives mandrake corrupted my sata drives. =( Need to download all that music again! I'm sticking to good old debian and never trying other distros again, it's dangerous! :lol:

Thanks for the reply. I tried to remove it and got an error. ERROR:Module ipv6 is in use I'm using debian, would be using mandrake but can't get it installed because it freezes at loading the sata drivers. =/

Eh, i have 1GB ram, that's more than enough for now. I close my pc down at night so that's not a problem. I tried googling them but it turns up mostly server related stuff, and i don't have anything like that running. =/

This question isn't really distro specific, but since i'm using a different distro i thought i would put it here. Anyway, i have this problem with all browsers i can happily be browsing the web then all of a sudden no webpage will load, however my downloads and stuff will still download fine but webpages won't error or anything they just won't load, period(This lasts for about 2 mins, and happens at least 10 times a day).I've searched everywhere for an answer but can find no one with a similar problem, i also had this problem on my old pc too and it only happens on linux, i have a feeling it's related to firestarter. Don't know if this is related but, I also get this error from various apps aswell "105 no buffer space available". I doubt anyone will know, but it's worth a try. =/

Bah the only thing i wanted to see was the screenshots. =(

Dunno what you guys think, but i consider this a bad thing. I think this might mean, mandrake will become a more pay to get more features distro, but then again i'm probably wrong and i often am.

So i should be happy.

This is how i did it and how i recommend others do it. 1st distro: Mandriva: stick with it for a good few months, or if you really like it and don't feel like exploring then stick with it. 2nd distro: Ubuntu:You will probably like at first, but then it will start to annoy you. 3rd Distro: Debian: You will have fun with debian, because most things don't really work until you fiddle around. 4th Distro:Slackware: Slackware is great, really stable and fast, but you will start to yearn for a decent package manager. 5th Distro: Gentoo: You will probably learn more in your first week with gentoo than you have in your full time using linux. Oh and portage rocks!

He's defending windows in a linux community.. now if you ask me that's just asking for trouble. Not only that he's also being very negative towards linux. "Linux doesn't do this blah blah" just run along back to windows now. Stop trying to compare windows and linux, if you don't like linux and think it has a bleak future then don't use it.
