  1. Yes it does appear that way doesn't it? You are braver than me. I am still on Mandriva 2008.1 and I think I will stay until KDE 4 matures a bit more.
  2. RVDowning: Does this thread help? http://forum.mandriva.com/viewtopic.php?t=96168
  3. The new flash seems to be working well on my laptop with Mandriva 2008.0 and my desktop with Mandriva 2008.1. No complaints so far...
  4. CTRL + ALT + mouse left click rotates the compiz cube for me on Mandriva 2008.1
  5. You can make a custom modeline with this: http://xtiming.sourceforge.net/cgi-bin/xtiming.pl
  6. When you have your white screen, try typing Ctrl + Alt + F1 Login as root and type XFdrake Have a look at this thread: http://forum.mandriva.com/viewtopic.php?t=92260 My guess is your video card is not sufficiently powerful to run Compiz Fusion. It IS pretty though B)
  7. Interesting read Adam. Thanks for taking the time to share those details with us.
  8. I would try clearing the CMOS on your motherboard to see if that rectifies the EIDE problem. Replace the IDE ribbon cables as well.
  9. I had this problem intermittently with my 2008.0 install. I was able to rectify this by changing the Plug & Play OS option in my bios from NO to YES. You also might want to experiment with ACPI boot options from within MCC.
  10. I agree with adamw. Let it run overnight.
  11. Running Mandriva 2008.0 and Firefox 3.01. I get the same warning as well. No crashes though.
  12. dude67: The Ultimate Boot CD is a good thing to have around for hardware diagnostics. http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/
  13. It looks like you need to load scsi_mod as well? modprobe usb_storage modprobe scsi_mod
  14. If you delete the udev rule and reboot. then your USB port is working right? After you do this, what modules are listed when running KInfoCenter? I thought there might be an additional module listed there that you were not aware of.
  15. viking777: If I remember correctly, you are a KDE user. When your usb port is working, what module information do you see listed under: Menu -> Tools -> System Tools -> KInfoCenter -> USB Devices It might be that you need more modules to be restarted. Just starting usb_storage may not be enough.
  16. viking777: Sounds like you are going to have a good weekend. Enjoy! B)
  17. I believe the first thing I would do is install a newer version of Mandriva. Mandrake 10.0 is extremely old from a linux perspective and hardware support has increased dramatically. Mandriva 2008.1 can be downloaded and installed free of charge.
  18. I don't see Mandriva listed in your signature
  19. Xolo: Thanks for posting the details of your solution. This may help some other user in the future (maybe me :P )
  20. If you do get errors with DDR333 – 2.5, try DDR333 – 3
