  1. u should read http://www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index.php?topic=56185.0 , and http://forum.mandriva.com/viewtopic.php?t=108548. It tells it all right there.Mandriva gotten closer to the community, with mandriva linux assembly, better moderating (sad adam had to go, but he has better job and pay at redhat) but germ and romain, they are great moderators, the mandriva forum seems to be going smoothly now, flames have not shown since the windows 7 thread, but the troll been banned and that seemed to make all the problems solved.Mandriva forum , ask a question, and its usually nicely and kindly answered, write a review, you arn't eat alive, pclinuxos forum on the other hand is way to sensitive and closed minded, and they thought of me as a troll with a 72/76 out of 100 review of pclinuxos (when i gave fedora 79 and suse a 48 on their home forums, they both respond kindly, fedora just giving their own points, and suse trying to help me out with my graphical hardware support issues, rahter then going with the "you don't understand what a rolling distro is!""Your parents failed!". Then when someone came in my defense finally, they were banned after 2 posts that weren't even offensive, just realism. Its probable one of the reasons why unity formed, as this thread shows it http://forum.unity-linux.org/thread-22.html i just think the areas of why pclinuxos even formed they are experiencing now, and mandriva seemed to recover and is going strong, hopefully they can push it out into the fiscal reports as well
  2. dang this thread still helps me to date, lol had to look back on it today
  3. i don't like pclinuxos to be honest, its just old mandriva, only uglier.Drake tools are using 2007, and they still use printer drake, which mandriva themselves abandoned.Maybe some like kde 3.5, i don't, it is annoying after using kde4, and even if you like kde3, don't you think they should at least include kde4 in repos and maybe other environments like E17 and XFCE?Package management in PClinuxOs is limited, and i personally hate sysnaptics, rpmdrake is much easier to use, urmpi is fast, and rpmdrake doesn't screw up all the time like other distros do.I HATE the pclinuxos 2009 theme, it is soo heavy ugly, and i don't see how its more "user friendly" compared to mandy, i feel pclinuxos took the easy way out by keeping old kernel, old kde, old everything as long as it "works " ok although the bleeding edge mandy works better
  4. INTEL + Nvidia=OWNAGE AMD+ATI=LOSER! well amd/ati destroyed their image for 1% of the market (including solaris and bsd, it comes to 1%) 1% may not be so much, but system wise thats a lot of people, and they are already known on windows to have less stable drivers the nvidia.AMD and ATI, once the leaders, took a deep dive into the pool and are drowning.

    Online MMORPG's

forgot one :P http://www.playnileonline.com/ still beta tho but u can sign up, it works well even on konqueror
  6. amarok 2 doesn't seem bloated, it uses 37mb idle and 39mb playing a song here, where itunes on windows can spike up around 100-300mb.Songbird is ok too, but it too uses more more ram then amarok 2, at 49mb idle and 60-70mb playing a song.
  7. right now i am using my first debian distro outside of ubuntu, http://pureos.org/index.php?lang=english i like the speed but im struggling with it, and yet again mandy is the only one that can work my printer correctly, i just type the ip adress thing or port or w/e and then it auto detects HP Color LasterJet CM 1312 NFI MFD and downloads the driver for me, i havn't tried a distro yet that was able to even work my printer (fedora, pureos) sytamatics is basic but its a little rougher on ease of use, its usuable and it doesn't take FOREVER like fedora but i still perfer rpmdrake.Openoffice 2.4 is a bit old, and i almost got my nvidia driver installed (im working on it in my free time) but im going back to mandy cuz its just too much, pureos is a beutiful os that is fast as hell, but its just hard to use, and kde3 annoys me now that i been using kd4 for a while.I never tried the real debian and ill try but i am really startin to get sick of reformatting my hard driver when i always seem to go back to mandriva no matter what cuz its the only os that i feel is reliable to me.Can't seem to get out of the Mandriva/Vista box
  8. already had a fix a while ago sorry http://forum.mandriva.com/viewtopic.php?t=103358
  9. opps, oh well need it answered badly, everytime i click on the file in amarok "no track playing " or something like that, yet it lists it in collection, nothing will play them, elisa, vlc player, i tried xine preferred that did nothing. There is nothing wrong with the file because they arn't drm files and file browsing in windows and clicking on it opens itunes and plays them.
  10. ow, i just saw on aol this http://www.engadget.com/2009/01/06/itunes-...arily-drm-free/ i quickly ran on to windows and upgraded my account to plus, it was $9.30 but its worth not having drm anymore, itunes redownloaded all my songs that were drm, dumped the drm songs on the trash *recycle bin or w/e* and then now itunes has all my crap in m4a (drm free) and at a higher bit rite (idk why the drm ones had lower biterate of 192 and the m4a are downloaded at 256 or something like that) at least now apple is now giving itunes users more freedom. But 1 problem, amarok won't play my m4a! I have gstreamer ugly? what do i do now? will xine work?
  11. well im not the only one with fullscreen issues either! https://qa.mandriva.com/show_bug.cgi?id=45636 hopefully the mandriva team fixes the issue.
  12. tried opensuse 11.1.....holy crap...where do i start? Lets see ill do a mini review Install/presentation/first run:7 (out of 10) Graphics and innovation:5 Software Management:3 Support/help/ease of use:5 Hardware support:7 Performance and Stability:2 Overall:4.8 Any comments of my "ignorance" or biasness is probable true, but you know what , i don't care what so ever so if you are probable going to belly ache don't read First of all, this is probable one of my least favorite distros.Seems like whenever i run away from mandriva or vista i seem to always go back, because they are reliable and could be called a "home" os for a computer.I am sooo friken sick of all this reformatting, and if mandriva didn't have the stupid fullscreen issues in kde 4 i probable would of never needed to taste the disgusting fedora and suse.I tried Suse thinking it would be my next distro since mandriva is probable going to go under after 2009 spring. Anyways, first boot of my live cd ( i wen t for 64 for once) of opensuse 11.1, i was greeted with a nice green welcome screen, and then when i entered the desktop i was thrown into 1280x1024 resolution instead of my 1680x1050 resolution (....) anyways i thought desktop was nice nevertheless, off to install, first the partitioning section needs some serious cleaning up, it was ugly and was not nearly as easy and clean as mandriva's install wizard ( mandriva has the best, and ubuntu right under) and i clicked install, noticed that in the install first i get a big flash and then i get a kde message that plasma crashed (wtf?) with the panel all crapped up.Couple seconds later my screen went black and wouldn't wake up, but my choice was to wait patiently, after 10 minutes or so (getting very impatient about to pull power plug) i saw a big giant green flash on my screen (finally) "your install is complete! please restart computer!" i was like... ok that was weird, "lets confuse users that their live cd crashed with install with a black screen so they might pull cord!" great idea suse Anyways, my first run, (noticing why the crap i see "windows 1" "windows 2" on the bootloader when there is only 1 win, but enjoyed the default suse look, it looked fresh and modern, but only to find thats just the artwork of screen look, because once you open up YaSt and software management you will see a 1 ugly manager. So cluttered, yet so gray outer, i mean come on, or maybe its just the gray ugly kde 4 oxygen darkening that suse takes no effort to make their own coloring (kde4 is beautiful, but i only found out after leaving mandriva its la ora+ kde4 is beautiful, not kde4 alone, especially the ugly window coloring) but anyways i noticed YaST was completely ugly, and didn't look to simple to use compared to the superior mandriva control centre and windows vista control center. But, hey it works so i guess that floats people's boat. Now, package manager, i give suse credit, it "works" unlike fedora, but it is one of the most cluttered, confusing or unuser-friendly and disorganized package manager i ever seen ( at least fedora was simple despite it never working) Next on, i noticed that when i tried to play my AVI tv shows (which both vista and mandriva played out of the box absolutely perfectly) suse would not let me view them properly with default player kaiffene ( i forget what mandriva used, but at least it worked) anyways i went off to the frustrating package manager and downloaded all these gstreamer packs, none that which worked, and i thought novell had deals with Microsoft for codecs? I ended up just downloading the full sized Elisa media center and luckily, the videos showed their, but, i noticed no sound! Oo after spending time i found that the sound mixer turned PCM off!after turning up it worked but i noticed music sounded distorted, or maybe less quality then mandriva (although i noticed vista's sound system is the best of my Bose companion II) Next, screen resolution, downloaded my driver (nice that wiki has a link to download) got it installed, restarted, switched resolution to 1650x1050, done, (for that... i noticed then after i rebooted computer for next use i went back to 1280x1024 again, and again and again after log outs after continually switching) i finally fixed it by having to do so in crappy YaSt, which kde control panel and nvidia control doesn't save. After doing some general use i noticed i got many crashes and lock ups, more so then vista EVER had (before sp1 too!) opera, yast, package installer, crossover, elisa, all i had to at least do a ctrl alt delete (ctrl alt backspace wasn't working) to get some usage again, or a unresponsive termination.when i tried to do WoW copy cds to folder, i found i couldn't just overwrite i had to either skip or rename, which sucked that made that a pain. Decided to copy and paste WoW to crossover folders (oh yeah i found that windows and my media storage wernt on places bar by default i had to hunt down the folders (which it didn't find proper names, and said my drive was :D when it was :Z! and add them to places) and then to find when i tried to do bottles crossover and the whole system froze and locked up AGAIN. after that i noticed that i had a white flash on the screen, and then i got an kde error that something crashed, and with my frustration i rebooted computer and i am typing this in opera in vista atm. suse will be removed tomorrow thats for sure
  13. Of what i have tried gOS and Mandriva are the most user friendly, and ill try opensuse soon. I would be a full time user since WoW and everything runs, but i am too dependant on apple DRM MPEG4 and M4P (protected) just today silly me after knowing i need to avoid itunes i just bought Pearl Harbor for $9.99 on itunes don't know why i didn't go pick it up at hollywood video, but itunes just is soo convenient and easy as long as you don't tell itunes you don't want to use it anymore (then apple makes sure switching to something else is a living hell) Anyways back to point, Mandriva i would say is the best overall, i turned away many times from 2009, but i always come running back despite kde4 issues and im not really that happy with gnome.I will give opensuse a shot again when 11.1 servers aren't needing traffic duty.I would say after mandriva ubuntu based distros are great, gOS, mint, ubuntu itself is ok, its just not my distro though.Fedora is by far the most annoying (its amazing the creator of the rpm, red hat, makes such a crappy hellish packaging system in fedora that would make people think .rpm distro sucks period if they didn't try mandriva, i don't know what mandriva did to make their RPM outshine the creator's own, but it "just works"), and slackware based distros are the more harder.
  14. oh wait nvm, got confused, there is no port for 2, just 1....
