  1. I know that. When I say WineX I mean all the WineX versions BEFORE Cedega. WineX version 4.0.1 was renamed to Cedega if I remember well.
  2. Iphitus, I know about the Unix versions of Yahoo!. I used the RH9 YIM before I managed to install Gaim. I don't want to have anything to do with it again. All I want is a recent version of Yahoo! IM for Linux. If you say it can't be emulated with cedega then .... I guess I'll have to try something else. I use Gaim currently. It works good enough .... but lacks one important thing: I can't buzz. Smurfy, I'll try Gyach when I get home. Now I have some driving lessons :D
  3. smurfy, I have already tried all the work arounds you've mentioned. What I want is to emulate Yahoo! Messenger 6.0 with Cedega. I don't have Wine and after all the awfull experiences with it I'm not going to install it ever on my PC. This is what happens when I try to emulate it: [root@Alex Messenger]# ls alpha.reg kdu_v32M.dll skins/ ymsgipdl.ini asw.dll licenseM.txt stock.dll ymsgip.dll AswRes.dll login.swf tsd2.dll ymsgr.ini avthost.swf Media/ UNWISE.EXE* Ymsgr_tray.exe* d32-fw.dll msvcp71.dll ViewInfo.reg YPager.exe* default.reg msvcr71.dll XMLParse.dll ypager.exe.manifest emote.dat MyYahoo.dll Xmltok.dll ypagerps.dll emote_user.dat n2pclient.dll yacscom.dll YServer.exe* filter1.txt nofriend.html yacsui.dll yupdater.exe* flfl_bg.gif pcre.dll YahooBridgeLib.dll YView/ ft60.dll privacy.txt ycrwin32.dll ywcupl.dll idle.dll proxy.dll ygxa_2.dll ywcvwr.dll INSTALL.LOG res_msgr.dll Yml.dll [root@Alex Messenger]# cedega YPager.exe [root@Alex Messenger]# And that's it. No error message no nothing.
  4. Try using a crack For example C&C Generals only works if you use it with a no-cd crack. You should also do a Google search.
  5. Yes but the first post in the English section is still in Dutch, plus the site doesn't have an English version. :P
  6. cannonfodder I use: Ctrl +C (or X) and then Ctrl + P. bvc I know some C++ :P I just need to learn the advanced stuff after OOP. Now really, if I were an advanced C++ programmer I would have tried to recode Netscape. Of course I'm in GNOME. I told you I switched to GNOME and I'm no longer using KDE. And btw I'm going to try that update you suggested. The thing is, I've been busy lately.
  7. And how would I integrate it properly ?
  8. I don't know if it is just me but cut/copy-paste doesn't behave right. For example. I copy a link in Netscape and I want to paste it in Gaim. If I close Netscape the link is no longer in the clipboard. Linux "forgets" it. Otherwise it works. Why does it behave so stupid ?
  9. Quality freeware is very kewl but it has to work. Wine on the other hand doesn't do a good job, sadly :(. For example Linux is the coolest OS on the Planet: it's open(source) , superior to others and you can enjoy it for free.

    Samba logs

I need a program to analyze the Samba logs. It has to show witch IP accessed witch share and at what time/date. What do you suggest ?
  13. You are probably lacking the drivers for your Video card. What do you use (nvidia or ati) ? If you use NVIDIA go to the FAQ section. There is an excellent guide there, step by step on how to install the NVIDIA driver. I had the same problem. After I installed it all my games worked fine but I had no boottheme (it is supposed to be a bug in the drivers). So you have to choose between the boottheme and the Linux games.
  14. I need to mount a Windows ISO that is located in a directory that has spaces in it's name. The name of the ISO also containts spaces. It all works well with the mount command if I use " " or \ , but how do I translate that to fstab ?
  15. Don't expect to much of Wine. It doesn't do it's job right. Better pay the registration for 3 months at www.transgaming.com and get yourself Cedega. It's much better and more relialbe than Wine. It also needs some improvement to become and excellent software but at least it does it's job in more cases than Wine/WineX.
  16. I also need help with my TV tuner. MDK 10 detects it as Bt878 but when I try to configure it with the TV Card wizard from MCC it doesn't work. No channel is detected. Another thing ... what TV norm should I use ? I asked my cable operator and they said: PAL B/G D/K or something like that. Only these may have something to do with what the operator said: PAL, PAL-N, PAL-M, PAL-NC.
  17. Neah. Frogs are not kewl. They are ugly ... maybe not as ugly as M$ but I don't like'em. Go kiss one ifyou love'em so much
  18. Linux is a pretty hardened OS but as root you can kill it very easy if you don't know what you're doing. It happened to me once in MDK 9.2. I gave up on it back then; all because of lack of help and nasty problems. Now after finding MUSB (which is a great place to get help) I managed to fix a lot of my problems.
  19. Even so ... you'll dump wine soon. Cuz it just doesn't do it's job right. Try Cedega . It's not perfect but at least it's better that Wine/Winex.
  20. OK. I'm kinda new at DVD ripping so I'm going to try something easy. My first dvd ripping didn't go so well because I compressed the movie too much (1CD) and the quality was poor. I had to rip it again. The second time I got it right: excellent quality and acceptable size: 2CDs. This is all my ripping experience ... in Windows unfortunately. I used SmartRipper + Vidomi. So now I think I'll start doing it in Linux ... with acidripp since it seems easier to use. THX for your help.
  21. lets-eat-gary rofl Sorry m8 but your nick is toooo lolfull (new word ?) I was planning to get Bittorrent. bvc, why do you hate it ? Many people say it's good.
  22. I have some DVDs and would like to do some ripping. What Linux software do you recommend me ? I need both for ripping and encoding. One more thing .... what OS is better for ripping, WinXP or Linux ?
  23. Your modem is porbably a WinModem and that's why it isn't detected. Did your USB cable modem come with a CD ? Check it ! Because I also have a cable modem that has drivers and instructions on how to install it on various OSs, including Linux. About Gnome System Tools ... no you don't need all the gnome-* packages. There is one called gnome-system-tools or something very simillar. In case of emergency you can use Windauz to get help or download some required packages. Go to rpm.pbone.net and search for the gnome-system-tools rpm. Download it, and install it.
  24. 3. I don't know a linux software that burns nrg but you can convert the nrgs to other formats using kiso. 4. As kmc77 said there are better native p2p clients than Kazaa. Azureus, Bittorent, LimeWire, aMule, xMule, lMule etc. 5. Yeah WineX sucks big time. Cedega is a better but not to my expectations. You can try it and see if it works for your apps.
  25. Hey ! It was 7 AM and I freaked out seeing that my cpu had been under heavy stress all night long, because it had never happened before. I also suspect aMule but what caused it to behave like that ? What do you guys think ? Do you know of a way to make Linux automaticaly kill the crazy process ?
