  1. I know you are looking for a very similar solution to Mozilla Composer, and I don't know of such a program - but if you force yourself to do the code yourself, you will be amazed at how much better your pages will become. Plus you can use CSS  My favourite editors (Quanta is on top): Quanta Plus, Blue Fish, Screem (all on MDK cds) Coffeecup HTML editor (free from www.cofeecup.com)
  2. Re-sizing wil almost always damage your data. It is HIGH risk, so backup first. FAT32 partitions seem to have no problems with being re-partitioned but journalised file systems will probably give you the finger.

Open up a console and type "reboot" Watch the messages though and post back here if you have a problem like "Stopping Service 'Ears' :[FAILED]"

    Limewire

You can never be too safe. But peer-to-peer networks usually take care of security issues for you. Limewire uses the Gnutella network (as far as I remember) and is pretty safe. EVERYTHING has security issues these days. I've never heard of anyone being attacked via Limewire though.

See what I mean? Don't listen to me damnit! Or am I joking? Should you listen to me?

    Share Printer

You can use that printer. It would have been best to install it while installing Mandrake, but you can do it now from the Mandrake Control Panel. Setting it up is pretty easy. Remember to use cups as opposed to printing without queueing and make sure that Samba is set up. This might not make much sense now, but it will. Also, keep posting your results as you go, hopefully you won't have any issues.

    Mandrake Online

Relax. I never said you didn't. Just saying that the fact that it is only good for supporting Mandrake is THEE only reason to join. I'm not even a member, but I want to join the club soon (paying in dollars is heavy for me, at times).

    Limewire

Limewire is the best, just make sure you have java installed before using it. I used to use WinMX in windows, which was great. It has less people using it, but the interface, etc. is great. Limewire isn't AS good, but is the best you will find for Linux (as far as I am concerned).

Not if you're gonna be hanging around the freaks on this forum :D Linux, if anything, breeds a sense of humour. Of course my post was a joke. EVERYTHING I say is a joke, ask anyone who has tried using my advice.
  10. Thanks for the links, tyme. We have been expecting Microsoft to release software for Linux for a while now. Although, I expected the first release to be MS Office or IE. They need to find a way to control Open Source and the first step is to release software for Linux until they gain enough ground to ensure that Linux stops becomming a threat. Similar tactics were used to stop the threat of Macintosh. We must fight this. At first, many people will think: Great! They can't beat us, so they are joining us! This is the wrong way to look at the situation. They are trying to control us.

    Mandrake Online

It IS worth paying for, if only to support Mandrake. These people have put in HUGE amounts of work to make the operating system you are probably using for free. What do they get as a "Thank You" - a start to 2003 with the possibility of closing down. It's time to put our money where our mouth's are.

There are great programs for doing your editing in Linux, I could paste them all hear, or you could go to http://freshmeat.net/search/?q=video+editi...ection=projects and choose your favourite...
  14. Mandrake (and Linux in general) is very good with detecting these devices, the problem is probably with the Palm (we have had a similar thread where the problem was with a faulty cradle). But let's not rule out the serial port, for now. I would start by trying another serial port (if you have more than one, which you should), if that doesn't work, try disconnecting everything from your serial ports except the Palm. If you still have no love, take your Palm to another computer and try it there. Once you have confirmed that the Palm is working fine and that the problem must be isolated to your computer, we can start looking at your serial ports. It also wouldn't hurt to upgrade to a USB cradle (if possible). I have had less hassles with them, although many people will tell you that serial port cradles should be the more trouble-free of the two.

    Advice on good NIC

I have good experiences with LG (Goldstar) NICs. They vary heavily from country to country though. Well, you're already sorted out, but for what it's worth.
  16. How about: "10 reasons why Linux is better then Windows" Lots of Windows users know why Linux is great, but not why it is better then what they currently use.
  17. I don't really know if Mandrake would ever be that desperate. I was on the Mandrake site today doing some reading. The new CEO really seems to be shit-hot. It is going to take our support to prevent any merging. Why don't we start a poll on this site with recommendations for what we, the Mandrake users, would like to see being done to solve Mandrake's problems. We could then send it to them, for what it is worth. Something like, "If you were CEO of Mandrake Soft, what would your course of action be" and give a few viable options which can then be voted for.
  18. Imagine if it was GTA3 though? That would be great for Linux gaming. You are right though, would cost a hell of a lot. Although, you do actually drive in GTA3 - so it probably wouldn't be that. hmm... I doubt the actual driving game would be the latest Need For Speed, that is the only driving game I can think of that falls in the given time. But then, I'm not a big fan of driving games (only about 5.9") so I wouldn't know.
  19. Not a problem. I'm surprised your SA is so bent on Microsoft. Any computer course you do these days (barring those offered by Microsoft) will teach you that there is no beating Linux for servers. You should tell him to come and speak to us. I remember when I was learning. Tried to set up a Windows 2000 Server... 2 weeks, 4 cases of beer and 3 cartons of cigarettes later I was still having WINS issues and DNS... I don't want to talk about it (still scarred). Switched to Linux and -I'm not joking- 10 minutes after installing my server was up and running with considerably less security issues.
  20. I just use Evolution. Just out of interest: can evolution be setup to get mail that fetchmail has spooled? Without setting up a server, of course. I always thought that fetchmail was THEE way until I read this thread, thanks for setting me straight.
  21. Do you have a link for more info, Moonchild? Sounds scary :?
  22. No problem. I'm sure that whatever it is the server is doing, if it is running Windows then you will probably need Samba. It is very straight forward to setup. http://www.samba.org/ Anything you share with samba will just look like another windows share to a M$ box. Everything you will need comes with MDK 9. I recommend using Webmin to configure Samba. Webmin is on your mdk 9 cds and you get into the interface by surfing to https://localhost:10000/ - some people use another port for Webmin as there are some security issues.
  23. I just posted on my other Egoboo-related thread. There is a net setting area in the config file, but no net play yet (this is according to the crew in the forum on sourceforge). Well, if there is and they are wrong, then don't ask me how to do it, beause in the game there is NOTHING relating to net play.
  24. I spent some time on the Egoboo forum on sourceforge. There is definately no net play for 2.22 (not yet, anyhow) and no script. There is a makefile, but it didn't work on my system. The answer I got was that 2.22 still had a lot of work to be done.
  25. Egoboo had netplay until Egoboo 2 was released (Egoboo 2.22 is the latest). The netplay has not been done for this yet, but you can still download Egoboo 1.
