  1. BVC, I can't wait for your port of Xi-Albook...you got permission yet?
  2. hmm..that's bad, I just didn't ever have any problem with Mandriva, it's what I started with, and I still like it :)
  3. I'm always saying that Mandriva is probably one of the best easy to use distro presently. If not, Beatrix is a great choice =)
  4. woah, that,s some news :) well It's probably a good thing :P
  5. well after 3 pages of argumentation, he gives us the: proves to me that a) he's not listening at all. or b ) he's a troll. Come on, if you truly are listening, but want to debate on that, I'm cool with that but at least, give something to debate on...
  6. too bad I'm from Canada, I would've liked to help ^_^ well all I can say is good luck!
  7. This isn't true...at all. I made some friends switch just because I showed them how easy it was to use Linux, when you know a little about it. (Is there any easiest way to install something then Urpmi? seriously?) The thing is, everyone is tending to say it's more difficult because it is different. Change is always hard to accept, and even more when it's a big change like passing from Windows to Linux. Yes, there are drawbacks to using linux, like some CLI things to know, wich you don't have to know in Windows. but in Windows, you have to learn somethings that you don't have to use on Linux, like getting rid of those spywares, wich can be complicated at times (I remember having to play in regedit like an hour to remove one that even Ad-aware and Spybot couldn't get rid of) So what is the main disadvantage of Linux over windows to me? it's different. that's all there is to it. Mandriva installs like a charm, is easy to use/maintain, the only thing that required absolutely to go in CLI was updating my nVidia driver...the others things I had to do or do today have a GUI, and a pretty good gui at that... Edit: Oh and while I'm at it, I precise: When I had a ton of problem to install XP, it was a genuine version ;)
  8. I was talking about that with a friend the other day. He said how "easy" his XP was, how speedy and powerful. Then...half an hour later, he was there, still on his computer, fixing yet another problem that had come up during updates. When I talked about Linux, he just gave me the eternal answer: "Linux is for geeks, I don't have the time to be playing around all day just to get something working" and then I answered: "what are you doing, again?" It's there he understood. It wasn't because Linux wasn't easy...it was because it was different. People tend to fear what they don't know...unfortunately. I was reinstalling my system last week. I had to double boot XP/Mandriva, because fo my family. It took me 4 hours to get XP installed, I always had problems. Hardware, drivers, updates not working, virus (12 minutes to get a virus after installing the system... wow o_0) and one or two corrupted files, I had it all. It took me...half an hour to get Mandy working? with updates, and every programs installed, you can count 2 hours. and after that, I took 2 hours to get every programs my family wanted on Windows. what a long night it was o_0 So when I got my friend on the phone, the day after, I told him "You know what? XP isn't for me...I played around all night trying to get this thing working o_0 how can you work with that?" he laughed :P
  9. I loved quake 1 so..this kind of rejoins me more :P though I'm impressed at their lighting effects, it seems badly written (I have a Geforce 5200 128 Mb...I should be able to run at least Dynamic lighting....but no) lags too much. but anyway, this is one good game if you like the Quake 1 type. Nothing new but always fun to play :)
  10. how dare you insults the athlets foot ^_^ I personally like the gnome foot :P I've replaced the star by it :)
  11. Tried it, excellent game, beware though, the default settings are for high end computers, for medium or low computers, check the effect options, and get rid of things like the bloom effect and real time lighting.
  12. I'm using MDK 2005, with gnome 2.8 and want to know how to change the MDK star next to applications, in the menu. How can I do that?
  13. there is no option for it, but it's not that difficult to hack it yourself. For the quick reply, there's a hack for it, though it's not great...
  14. if I have to go for Open source, I'm generally taking SMF, wich is a really good forum, you should check it out ^_^ and yeah, the lifetime license is 160$ for Vbulletin. It is pricey but...it still IS the best forum software around, and probably will be for a long time...
  15. if you are ready to pay for Invision Board, might as well go for Vbulletin, wich is, IMHO, the best forum software out there.
  16. it worked, thanks ^_^ and My Hostname is back to "normal" even if it's weird o_0
  17. so first of all, all of a sudden after reboot, my hostname changed o_0 (first it was C@17 with my IP, or something along those line) and then, it changed to localhost. o_0 second, when I reboot or halt the system, during the halt procedure, everything goes whitey (as if it was snowing) with heavy distortion, and I don't see a thing. but it closes after 22 seconds, like normal. at first, it did that sometimes, but since yesterday it's everytime.
  18. even the mirrors, you won't see anything ;)
  19. there's an article in the playboy magasine about Linux (I read it from *cough*slashdot*cough*) But I can't seem to find the Newsforge article o_0
  20. hmmm...I doubt so. Probably that Apple will not allow Mac OS X to run on any PCs so....it's gonna be about the same, except Apple will have more horsepower and more apps ported. wow, talk about a linux killer o_0 If they open it up to every x86 PCs, maybe there's a threat, but even so, I don't think everyone using Linux will switch to Mac (I'm not going to, at least...) So it's not that bad o_0
