    UT 3 for linux?

you're welcome to ask for information, but, i personally felt you were being overly critical and a bit mean towards icculus who works very hard to bring us linux games...
  2. That they do...the game takes a little bit to really get into, and there are times when you'll want something else to do while you're waiting for your ship to make its way across space but it's definitely unique - I personally can't wait for the ability to get out of your ship and wander around space stations (coming in Trinity next month) - it may finally reach the level of one of my fav (now dead) MMO's, Earth & Beyond.
  3. When you're a mod/admin and edit a post, you actually have to click a checkbox to have it show that you edited it...I always forget to do this. After re-reading AI's original post, you're right, he did make it clear (I just wasn't reading it right).
  4. anyways...since they now support my 2 fav OS's...i reactivated my account :) - Mac version seems good enough, though I did have a lockup. Have to try the Linux version yet...

    UT 3 for linux?

I'd like to see that. Ever ported a game, Maznislav? Any idea how much coding it takes? Ever written any code? If not, you certainly aren't in a position to criticize icculus.
  6. I had heard conflicting reports prior to the release. Hence the question for clarification purposes...(more for others than for my own, I'll know when I get home in 2 hours).
  7. I know you need Cedega for the Linux version, but does that come with the client or do you have to pay the Cedega subscription fee? I wonder...

    UT 3 for linux?

Considering that icculus (Ryan C. Gordon, the guy who's doing the port) just recently got the Linux server demo beta out, the Linux client might be a little while coming along. You have to keep in mind it is essentially one guy doing the port...so cutting him some slack is probably a good idea ;) (we may not even see a Linux demo of the game).
  9. I'm posting on a forum, not writing an open letter to a CEO of another company ;)
  10. Tip for Mandriva: Find some people to check your grammar/spelling/etc (preferably ones that speak english natively). Reading through the letter, there are quite a few mistakes, especially for a business correspondence. I realize this is his personal blog (it IS an open letter, though), but seriously, it looks bad when you criticize someone but can't use proper English (especially when the receiving party is English-speaking - I would say the same if it was in any other language). I say this partially because of this open letter, but also because I've seen Mandriva make such mistakes in more official forms before. I know French is their native language, and for all I care they could do everything in French, but if you are going to write in another language...
  11. Oh, sorry, I missed that you stated screenshots. When I'm at work some sites are blocked, so if your images are on one of the blocked sites (most free image hosting sites) then I can't see them. Will look when I get home.
  12. I think you would be better off working with a distribution specifically designed to run on the xbox: http://www.xbox-linux.org/ I have no experience with installing Linux on an xbox, but my friend does, I'll see if I can convince him to drop by and take a look at your questions.
  13. Are you using a 3d desktop?
  14. *bump* If anyone has any experience with this controller, please see if you can help bob here. I googled like crazy but couldn't find any useful information :-/
  15. What other devices (hard drives, cdroms, external drives, etc.) do you have in your setup?
  16. In the config section you're copying over I would first and foremost suggest changing this: Option "Device" "/dev/input/mice" To this: Option "Device" "/dev/mouse" X is most likely crashing because the path to the device is wrong - while in other distro's it may be configured as /dev/input/mice in Mandriva it's /dev/mouse. Also, you may want to ensure that the Identifier is the same, as this is used in other parts of xorg.conf to identify which mouse to use: Identifier "Configured Mouse" Should be: Identifier "Mouse1" All put together, you should try this as your config: (changes marked in red) Let us know how that works for you. If X crashes again, try to find any errors it's giving so we can narrow down the source.
  17. Have you checked to see if this bug has been reported? If not, you should report it.
  18. Yeah, I'm retarded...it's not part of the image.
  19. The text is part of the image that is being used. You would have to edit the image to remove the text.
  20. have you tried using a different server than the one you get that error with? a lot of times it's a problem with the server, and trying a different one will resolve the problem.
  21. I don't think including Cedega is about catering to reluctant windows migrants. I am not a reluctant Windows migrant, I have used Linux as my main OS for over 6 years and have been tinkering with it for a good 9 or so. I still see Cedega as useful to people who want to run Windows games in Linux (I still use it from time to time myself). And besides all that, Linux is about choice. If people want to choose to use Cedega, awesome, good thing Mandriva includes it. If they don't? Well, then they don't. Don't try to push your opinions and choices on others ;) - that's not what open source is about.
  22. run the command: lspci from a terminal, then copy/paste the output here. it should give us an idea of exactly what chipset your card is using, and hopefully we can narrow down a driver for you from that.
  23. Don't delete. There's a lot of important stuff in there, not sure why, but you don't want to get rid of all that. Do you have a gphoto2 rpm for Mandriva 2006 of the newer version (2.4.0)? Or are you compiling from source (tar.gz)? Note that compiling from source can get pretty complex, you'll probably need a lot of *-devel packages. As far as removing the current gphoto2, I would do man urpme and look for an option to not check dependencies (may be --no-deps or similar), that way you can remove gphoto2 without removing all those other packages (as far as I can see, none of them absolutely require gphoto2).
