  1. interview with a q3a aimbot coder :P http://www.lamerkatz.com/webvoid/issue7/1.shtml
  2. quake 3 works great on linux!!!!!!! was talking about the punkbuster anti-cheat protection
  3. well what can you do? if it worked it would be good it may work on day
  4. thanks that worked great :D the problem box was the same in every way to my other installs which seem to work fine so......
  5. This is a related fstab entry none /mnt/cdrom supermount dev=/dev/scd0,fs=auto,ro,--,iocharset=iso8859-1,codepage=850,umask=0 0 0 I think this happened after i deleted the removable media icon off the desktop.
  6. hi i installed 9.0 on a computer with a cdwriter and everything was working fine, i deleted the removable media icon of the desktop after placing the floppy and cd icons on the desktop. after that i couldn't access cd or fdd from the links no access permissions error root didn't have access permissions either i could play music cds from a player ok but could not view the contents via a file manager. i couldnt mount from the command line either or access through the console after a little mucking around with access permissions i got the fdd to work normally but not the cdwriter, the access permissions appear the same as my other working 9.0 installations so i don't know where the problem is. any ideas? disable supermount?
  7. Him i would hate that config, like all my keys on the right side of the key board. generally my keybindings are: up forward down reverse left strafe left right strafe right jump right-ctrl duck left mouse fire primary right mouse fire secondary or change fire mode mouse wheel change weapons enter use/open doors [ and ] adjust scope magnification
  8. That's the only way i have heard it pronounced in New Zealand. Anyway this is a pointless debate people will continue to use the word the way they always have. You say Linux i say Awesome
  9. Didn't Linus say something like "I don't care how you pronounce it, just use it!"
  10. what sort of exotic keybindings are u using? any keyboard should do, if only you could get them without those damn micro$ keys I like the old wider alt and ctrl keys.
  11. unreal 2k3 demo run fast on my 1800xp 512mb ram geforce 2 pro soon i will have a geforce 4 so that should be better. I never get anything like that sticking you are talking about. seems to run fine on my systems. But i prefer the q3a engine to the unreal engine.
  12. DCGUI is really nice and there is a mandrake9.0 rpm somewhere. The version i am using which works well is here, get both rpms: http://dcgui.berlios.de/files/dcgui/unstab.../9.0/RPMS/i586/ This looks like the newest version, so will have more features maybe bugs too!, linux app developement progresses at the speed of light it would seem  http://dcgui.berlios.de/files/dcgui/unstab.../9.0/RPMS/i586/ If you want a dc++ gui client i don't think you'll find better, some dc servers don't allow dc++ clients for some reason but as i have not found a dc client for linux im damn happy with it. of and i wouldn't worry about the "unstable" part of the directory i have used older versions on 8.2 and i haven't found a serious bug yet!, and the app never crashes. Your experience may vary, i take no responsibility for users detonating while using this software!
  13. Thats great i have one of those cards but didn't use it cause i couldn't get it to work in 8.2 I only want it for the 2 extra ide controllers as i don't like putting more than 1 device on a ide controller. I will have a look tonight!
  14. did you try running gmplayer as su as i recall i had to change the permisions on gmplayer so i could run it as a normal user. just as i thought i don't know jack! heaps of other people but no jack :P Oh you need all the dependencys su urpmi mplayer* give all the dependancys goto rpmfind.net search for the missing stuff download all the packages you need put them all in the folder with your mplayer rpms su urpmi *.rpm if more dependancies write them down goto rpmfind.net search download into mplayer folder su urpmi *.rpm again do this untill there are no more dependancies. It should work. make sure you get packages for 9.0 - i assume your using 9.0 if not get for whatever version.
  15. i can't get it to install properly... bugger! does it work with gcc 3.2? 16. did you install the decss stuff?
  17. xp needs lots more hardware to run at an acceptable rate. I have seen it run on a p4 2000, 384mb ram and it's slow and unresponsive also slow in amd 1200, 384mb ram. kde3 runs great on a 700 duron 256mb sdram 733 p3 256mb sdram anything with 256mb ram and up with a 700mhz processor is completely fine. I don't have any lower spec computers to test, and the higher spec ones, well they run fine too of course. oh i do have a cyrix 333 with 64meg edo ram, but that barely runs kde2.2.1 so i wouldn't bother. maybe if it had 256meg of ram it would be bearable.
  18. Another advantage VMs have is stability. Half a dozen Linux VM servers can crash, but the other two dozen will still hum along normally. A standalone Intel-based Linux server simply can't compete with that level of stability. Ahhhhh!!!!!!!!!! my mandrake 8.1 file/mail/gateway/database server has been running for around 150 days now ahhh it gonna crash any second :P It's has never crashed, i did acidentally pull out the power cord which ruined my uptime :( I agree big companys need that kind of redundancy but there are many smaller networks that will not need this, it'll be server in the back room as usual. Hehe i had a guy call the other day wanting me to move all my companys data offsite and run terminals at my work, microsoft solution aswell! I'm gonna host my companys commercially sensitive data offsite on somebodys datacenter ummm not likely. And one running windows? Muahahahahahahahaahaha Desktop is here for me and others it will be for more later.
  19. i realised that that was bs! It was afterall from micro$ I laugh as i see articles about affordable linux clusters where you can get 10Gflops for around $150,000 us!!! 80Gflop in an xbox indeed!
  20. it's out now alot of servers now use it so you need it too play on them.
  21. what css stuff for printing? I know about the page break stuff etc.. <style type="text/css"> dontBreak { page-break-inside: avoid; } </style> Last time i looked the above only worked in opera, but moz probably supports it now. with a pdf for example its really easy to put stuff anywhere you like on the page and it always comes out right on the printer. I use html to display on the browser but it contains additional info that is not displayed on the printed page which is generated from a template(invoices etc.. this is intranet stuff). If you have any links to good tutorials or infomation on accurate printing using html they would be most welcome.
  22. what are the spec's for the xbox? i found this on a search. hmmm seems like that powerfull 733 celeron would beat the arse of my 1800XP with 512mb ddr 333 ram 80Gigaflops of power WOW!!!!!!!!!!! :P well why would you buy a computer for scientific calculations when you can get a xbox and utilise it's supercomputing capabilities!! CPU 733MHz Intel Celeron w/ Coppermine Core Facts: * The Xbox has 80 Gigaflops of computing power. That's equivalent to the power found in a Cray C94 supercomputer. * It would take everyone on Earth one hour to calculate what the Xbox calculates every second. Graphics Processor 233 MHz custom-designed X-Chip, developed by Microsoft and nVidia Facts: * If the HyperTransport link in the Xbox was a pipe carrying water, and every bit of information equaled one gallon, the pipe would fill up the Pacific Ocean every second! 23. I will just call a perl script through php like this <? // stuff to make the pdf file exec('perl scriptname.pl > /dev/null'); // routing the exec to /dev/null means you won't stall your php script and it can continue // executing, if you don't do this the php script will stall untill the perl script has finished // executing( which would be a problem for a slow perl script as php has a 30sec timeout by // default, not to mention > 5 sec is a long time in userland). ?> scriptname.pl //--------------------------------------------------------------------------- #! /usr/bin/perl # called from php after generating pdf file using fpdf # if your perl script is not in the directory where your pdf and ps file will be you need to # include the path to the files. if(invoice.ps) { unlink("invoice.ps"); #delete previously generated .ps file } system "pdf2ps","invoice.pdf","invoice.ps"; #call pdf2ps to convert the pdf to a ps file system "lpr", "invoice.ps"; # prints the ps file # you could specify a printer if you wish, else the default printer is used # cups supports lpr commands if(invoice.pdf) { unlink("invoice.pdf"); #delete pdf file } //----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Incase anyone was interested
  24. I would be wary of xp I know from experience that if you stick an xp box on a peer to peer network with 98se and ME computers it does screwy thing to the network even when it is not the gateway. Why don't you use your computer as the gateway? As your father thought that he could use the win xp disk to setup your linux box maybe you should tell him that he obviously doesn't know enough about computers to make descisions about the network setup  im sure that would go down well!
