  1. Hmmmm... now if only the other windows users begin to realize this stuff, MS would be out of business in a hurry. No extra bloat needed here in Linux Land. But I do believe files are cached somewhere and there is a history toolbar hiding someplace (not sure... gotta check later myself). Maybe /home/.netscape or someplace like that (hidden folder).
  2. I am moving my personnal photography site there to enable a move from static HTML to a dynamic PHP site. My old site (and permanent URL): http://www.photosbyray.net ---------------------- EDIT {4 hours later}: Files transfered, database uploaded, etc, etc, ITS WORKING :D Yay! Tommorrow (if I still have access) will work on some details before forwarding my URL there. ---------------------- EDIT {next morning}: Still got full access. :) I tried adding a user to my site but that email hasn't gone through either. I guess their sendmail is not working.
  3. Yes, please let us know !!! I signed up this morning and am currently uploading my site via ftp right this moment. I have not received the email I was expecting and have had to guess my way to the ftp and http sites. Otherwise, the options there look great.
  4. I personnaly wouldn't worry about the 2.6 kernel (I don't have it either). It is still too new and there are many programs that may not work with it anyway (or need to be patched and ported to it). I also here there really isn't any real noticable improvement. I would concentrate on getting a good running stock system first. Oh, and no, it isn't as bad as it sounds to install a newer kernel. This can be done afterwards... just don't install or update through any gui software installers.
  5. I heard member iphitus has a pretty popular site on the internet for this driver ;)
  6. Just checked my setup... and I produce the same 403 Forbidden page. Looks like you will have to figure out and edit that file paul was talking about. ( /etc/httpd/conf/commonhttpd.conf ) Sorry... can't help ya out.
  7. I don't know if you would be able to write a good copy of that file, even if you could read and write to the ntfs partition. You may want to check out this page: http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_haldll_missing.htm If you can't restore it the way they say (at the bottom of that page) maybe try putting it on a floppy and booting with a dos/ win98 startup disk and then rewrite that boot.ini file to correct the problem. If you need a bootdisk: http://www.bootdisk.com/bootdisk.htm PS: I was wondering why hda2 ? I never seen that before... always been hda1.
  8. A separate /boot partition is not really needed. The setup process will help you create your partitions the way you want if you select the "expert" option. Ixthusdan's suggestion is a good one, but you could just do (to simplify things): / 24 G /swap 500 MB /home 10 G /storage 50 G (the /var, /usr, and /boot will be taken care of by / I believe)
  9. Just to clarify... this is what we want to accomplish... something along these lines: http://mandrakeusers.com/Mandrake/ First step will be to get it to work (like above) for all visitors. Then you can work on controlling access to your users.
  10. This is what I got: I guess Paul is on the right track here. I can't check my server/setup until later tonight... to see how mine works (or don't)
  11. If your main site's index.html file is in /var/www/html ... What happens if you put a folder named "files" in /var/www/html and put some files in there... but don't put any index.html file there. Then browse: http://diy-audio.curtek.com/files/ Using a default apache setup should show a listing of your files unless you have an index page there which would display that instead.
  12. I think we need to see your fstab file. You should find it in /etc . Also, please post your OS your using (Mandrake 9.2 ?) thanx,
  13. That would seem to be the right one then. How bout the video card fan or the chip fan (on motherboard). I just experienced some freeze ups and found those two fans were blocked up with dirt and not running and causing an overheat condition. I took them off and things have been fine since (tho I don't run my machine overnight anymore)
  14. Which one exactly ? Maybe this one ? NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-5328-pkg1.run I noticed there are several versions... possibly you got the wrong one (or an earlier one)
  15. Have we tried the network wizard yet and is this installed ? This would be found in Mandrake's Control Center... or start with a terminal with command "mcc". This usually does the job.
  16. That IrfanView is a handy and a must have for pictures. That's the program (windows only) that I have used to open up problem jpeg's. http://www.irfanview.com/
  17. I never had any luck fixing images such as you described. I have been able to force open (with other programs) and salvage some that photoshop did not want to open due to corruption problems. Another way to go about this... that is if your camera uses a flash card (or similiar) is to use a program to recover lost files on it (figuring you most likely cleared the card after dumping them and quite possibly have not used it since). I am willing to give it a try or send you the recover program if you like. scoopy82 at yahoo com
  18. HEY! What did you all do to these poor creatures? I am getting "NO MORE PINGUINS"

    Lindows

That's not that "Kraig" dude is it ??? Seems Lindows has been having a change of heart and wants to support open source more these days. They sponsor sites such as, KDE-apps.org and KDE-look.org, which a lot of us Mandrakers use. Maybe Lindows 5 is the one that will be able to market Linux to the world and introduce Linux to the majority ?

    kppp on desktop

If your running KDE, right click on desktop gives you an option to create link to application. Make one of those, and then fill in kppp for the command and then pick an icon of your liking.
  21. Is this the result of a large group of dissatisfied RH users that are planning on abandining ship? Will we have to brace ourselves for a large influx of new members here?
  22. HEY ! DragonMage, <SLAP> The upgrade planned for Saturday had to be done today (Tuesday) due to unforeseen circumstances. </SLAP> Please see the third post above this one. :P Another problem quickly fixed by our awsome admins. Now we return you to your normal beer guzzling schedules.
  23. Yeah.... what he said (excellant advice Mr Ixthusdan). :D I find those are usually caused by a bad burn due to a bad download or burning too fast. I would also add to stay away from cheap colored disks (they are more trouble then anything) AND, Welcome aboard! :D

    Big Brother

Never seen this before, but, I would imagine since it reports the status of your network... you would need some sort of services (such as Apache, FTP) running for it to report on. I don't know if we have something on this or not, but did you see this page? http://demo.bb4.com/bb/help/bb-faq.html#1.4 If your interested in this, I would just install it and see what happens. If you run into any problems... just ask and maybe we can help you.
