  1. I have a website that i want to monitor. However, i don't want to install anything on that webserver. I don't mind settings up a seperate server on another machine to monitor my site. I've been searching the internet for good mandrake/big brother documentions, but haven't had much luck. Nate
  2. Does anybody here have any experience with big brother? http://bb4.com/ I've seen it for myself and am curious on how it works. Do i have to set up a server, or can i just run a client side from my computer? Is there a howto floating around here somewhere? Thanks, Nate
  3. I have an IBM ThinkPad 600e and mandrake rocks on it. The sound takes a little tweaking, but that's the hardest part of the installation. I had no problems with the DVD player in mandrake 9.0. However, I'm still trying to get it to work with mandrake 9.2. All and all.. if anybody is looking for a cheap $300 laptop that will work with linux, I would recommend the 600e. Nate
  4. This is what I've done since my last post. 1) I installed the updates for mandrake 9.2,and then installed the ogle RPMS... no luck. 2) Did a fresh install of 9.2, still ogle won't run. 3) I went back to 9.0 and ogle played dvd's without a hitch. :) One thing i noticed was Gnome would give me a blank screen but would play the sound. KDE always gives me the above resource error. I tried installing an older version if libxine, but that didn't work. Totem crashes everytime i open it. Maybe its time to play around with other players. Nate
  5. I upgraded my IBM thinkpad 600e from Mandrake 9.0 to 9.2. In the process I broke Ogle and it will no longer play DVDs. I've reinstalled the RPM's but i'm still unable to play DVD's. I lowered the screen resolution to 16bit and am getting the below error. When i try to play a dvd through totem, the programs crashes. I have a feeling it has something to do with the xserver as this worked fine before the upgrade. Anybody have a suggestion? 6. Great post! The settings you gave also work on the 600e series. To enable sound on a thinkpad 600e with mandrake 9.0 1) load the RPM for sndconfig in the mandrake control panel. 2) open up a terminal and su to root 3) cd into the /usr/sbin directory. 4) type sndconfig --noprobe 5) Select CS423x driver with the following settings io=0x530 irq=5 dma=1 dma2=0 mpuio=0x300 mpuirq=5 I tried the generic SoundBlaster drivers but they wouldn't work. I am also experiencing the same issue you had, and have to do a sndconfig every time I reboot. Nate
  7. Acording to the mandrake control center i have... automake-1.5-8, kdebase-3.0.3-68mdk and kdelibs-devel-3.0.330mdk That did cross my mind, but I wasn't able to find the .so.4 RPM's anywhere for download. The author said he used mandrake 8.3 and i'm using mandrake 9.0. Other then running a more updated library, i don't think there is much of a difference. Somewhere in my pile of disks i have mandrake 8.2 on cdrom. However, I think they were running lib.so.3 on that distro, but maybe i am wrong. Would i have to do an ldconfig after I installed those RPMs? I also tried creating a symbolic link from libstd++.so4 to libstd++.so5 but that didn't work for the installation., Nathan
  8. I'm tryig to install this kicker from http://kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=2193 I have downloaded the RPMs, but when i try to install, i am getting the following error message. <st //home/nate/Documents/2193-keramik-kde3-2pdc.i686.rpm;echo RESULT=$? error: failed dependencies: libstdc++.so.4 is needed by keramik-kde3-2pdc libstdc++.so.4(GLIBCPP_3.1) is needed by keramik-kde3-2pdc RESULT=1 I searched my /usr/lib directory and found version 5. [nate@kittyfriedrice lib]$ ls | grep libstdc libstdc++.so.5@ libstdc++.so.5.0.0* Am i doing somethin wrong? Thanks for any suggestions. Nathan
