  1. There is no Kazaa for Linux. However it works with Wine. http://frankscorner.org/modules.php?op=mod...rtid=104&page=1. The Matrix screensaver is (I think) in the xscreensaver-glXXX.rpm. So just do urpmi xcreesnsaver-gl
  2. urpmi unrar :) From the commandline: unrar e XXXX.rar extracts the files
  3. Skype for Linux has been released. However it seg faults on me so it isn't usuable. But it's a start. Give them a few weeks to get the bugs ironed out. :)
  4. /usr/lib/flash-plugin/libflashplayer.so This is where it's located on my computer :). Good luck (ps there is a rpm)
  5. http://www.linuxtv.org/mailinglists/linux-...4/msg00170.html It seems you need a /etc/hotplug/firmware.agent.
  6. http://www.isbe.man.ac.uk/~iscott/linux_on...tecra_8000.html This says removing and reinsurting the card should do the trick :)
  7. You have to use the 32bit firefox for 32bit plugins to work.

    Cursor

I don't know if this still works but you can do it by hand: -1- Create a .icons folder in your $HOME -2- Untar the cursor tar and copy it to .icon -3- Create a folder called default in .icons -4- use kwrite (or your favorite text editor) to create a index.theme. In it put [index Theme] Inherits = name of cursor -5- copy your cursor folder to /usr/share/icon (as root) -6- edit the index.theme in /usr/share/icons/default Inherits = cursor name -7- restart X

    Kioexec error

I couln't find any solution with Google but it seems you can still get at the data with Konqueror (/mnt/cdrom).
  10. Try removing the printer and then add it again. Maybe a driver problem?
  11. No need for a safe mode. You can edit the screen resolution with XFdrake. Just type XFdrake at the prompt (make sure you're logged in) and choose the new resolution.
  12. In libgnomexx-devel. So do urpmi ..... (Btw, gnucash is on one of the Mandrake CSs. You don't have to compile it.)
  13. Did you make the script executable? If you use KDE, rightclick the file, choose properties, go to the second tab and tick 'executable'. Then try again with ./. (if you don't use KDE, change permissions with chmod)
  14. I don't see 2.6.4 in that list. Does that mean it's not affected or that there isn't any information about it? (don't want to try it myself :) )
  15. http://www.mp3machine.com/discussion/messages/11975.shtml Good luck
  16. It's not better, it's 'lighter'. Modern Desktops like KDE 3.2 or GNOME 2.4 require a lot of resources. IceWM (or others like it) a lot less. Now i'll go and watch soccer. Germany versus Holland. Good night :)
  17. If this is to be a learning experience for you there isn't much that can go wrong. If it does just try again. B) Secondly, the Mandrake installer is very good. Just follow the instructions on screen and you'll find that there isn't much that will surprise you. Mandrake will pick the programs you need after you have chosen what kind of installation you want. But ofcourse, you can always install extra stuff when it's needed. However, there is one thing that needs your attention. If you want to use X and a DE (GUI) on that machine I suggest you go not with KDE or GNOME. On the page where you have to choose what kind of installation you want, in the lower right hand corner, pick IceWM or something like that. Good luck :)
  18. In Mandrake I use kdict, that uses the dict protocol. On the dict.org website are listed a lost of clients (including windows). I haven't tried those but I guess they work just as well as kdict. 19. A few tips: d: It's not neccesary to give the complete path to start an application. In a console (or run window) just type the name of the application for it to start. It isn't even neccesary to type the whole name of the application, just the first few letters and then hit <Tab>. For installing programs Mandrake uses urpmi. In a console, log in as root (only root can install programs) type urpmi <name of package you want to install (if it's an rpm you have downloaded, type the first few letters and <Tab> Linux makes things so easy :) ) and then <enter>. For updating Mandrake uses urpmi.update. Add the source 'update' to your urpmi repositories (use http://urpmi.org/easyurpmi/index.php this website to help you) After you have done that, go to a console, type urpmi.update -a (just to be sure) . To install the new programs use urpmi --auto-select. For all possible options you can always use -help (urpmi -help, urpmi.update -help, xxx -help, you get the idea) Good luck
  20. With 'kmenuedit' you can edit kmenu. (or rightclick the K-button in kicker and choose edit). With 'menudrake' you edit the Mandrake startmenu (these are 2 different things). My guess is that you use now the mandrake startmenu. To change it to kmenu, go in menudrake, to menu-style and tick 'original menu'. That way you get to use kmenu (it still has amusement and configuration in 3.2 :) )
  21. When you use urpmi to install 'freetype' that will take care of the dependancies. So the chance that something will go wrong is (almost) non-existant. However, installing a newer version of 'freetype' (I believe they are in PLF) means most of the time that your fonts will be looking awfull. As for not finding 'libttf.so', you could try linking (command: ln) to 'libttf.so.2'. If the libraries are not that dramatically changed it might still work. Give it a try.
  22. For your digital camera I would suggest a Canon. Don't know how much you want to spend but I'm sure there must be a model that fits your need. As for a scanner, I'm using a HP all-in-one printer, scanner, copier. The quality is OK but nothing special.
  23. Digikam. Just do 'urpmi digikam'
  24. With wine you can use wmp 6.4 (or so i've heard)
