  1. You can easily enable the root account: sudo passwd root
  2. I love Ubuntu. It's on all of my machines, even my ibook :)
  3. reading the comments after the story; it looks like a BS article.
  4. 1) No 2) Depends, but it probably won't be easy at first. 3) Personally I wouldn't use exchange. I have a mail server set up that uses Qmail and Courior IMAP. It has webmail access as well as web based admin. It's a nice setup, but it took half a day to set it up and get it running right. It's been running 100% trouble free for 6 months now, it's awesome....
  5. I dont plan on using the raid anyway, so it's no biggie for me. I also discovered it supports the new serial ATA interface, ATA 150 :) Though I probably won't use that anytime soon either...
  6. Doh! I'm getting mine tomorrow too, but I got a 2.0Gh at 400Mhz, I really wish I would have got the 2.5!!! at the time I didn't realize it was only an extra $30.... I do like the specs of my mobo, it has usb 2.0 and firewire, as well as built on raid controler and supports up to 3GB of PC2700 ram! http://us.shuttle.com/specs.asp?pro_id=94 Full specs are here :D
  7. Lycorsis sux! Not only does it look like windows, it crashes like winodows too.
  8. Just getting ready to build my new p4 2.0 GHz system with PC2700 ram :P and wanted some feedback 8) I'm also putting a DVD drive in this one, will DVD's play right after a new install or will I have to mess with it?

    Holy Wars

    I like Pico myself :)
  10. Doesn't look like they are planning on making it freely available: Source Code Much of the software that comprises Xandros Desktop is Free or Open Source software. Many of the licenses that govern the redistribution this software require Xandros to make the source code for these components available to anyone who receives a copy of the product. If you are interested in obtaining a copy of the source code for the Free and Open Source software components in Xandros Desktop, contact: feedback@xandros.com.
  11. The last I read it was greater than MacOS at somewhere near 5% and growing.
  12. thats fine for a local app with one user. Try running a perl base web site with 3000 users hitting it all at once.
  13. Perl's too slow and clunky. It's fine for email scripts and various maint. tasks, but not for a high traffic web site. I wrote a content management app in asp a few years ago, I guess maybe i need to really learn php and just convert mine. I can't seem to find anything out there already made.
  14. On second thought Perl wouldn't be okay. It needs to be PHP based.
  15. It doesnt have to manage multiple sites, just one would be fine, but multiple would be cool. PHP based would be prefered, but I guess Perl based would be okay too.
  16. Can anyone suggest a good PHP based web site content management app? Not like PHPNuke, I want something that I can use to manage content on any type of web site through a web based admin, storing the content in a MySQL db. Thanks

    squeak squeak

on my ibook both work at the same time
  18. I think I need a 5.1 sound system too, my decoder card has a 5.1 digital out and I think DivX supports 5.1 too :) I got a Shuttle SV-25 case, its small and looks cool, but its loud as hell and over heats, I need something else :?
  19. right now just a 27" TV and a 15" LCD I'm waiting for the price of Plazma TV's to come down :)
  20. Dude it is! I been working on it for about 4 months now, all trial and error. It rocks, now I just need a cool looking, quiet, small case to put it all in so that it looks as good as it works :)
  21. Well, Linux isn't always best for everything. For example I set up my own Custom DVES (Digital video Entertainment System) he he I just made that up. While I would have prefered a Linux solution, it wasn't possible because the hardware doesn't support Linux. It runs on Win2k and does it all! Records TV shows with a real time Mpeg-2 hardware encoder anywhere from VCD to DVD quality with a Hauppage WinTV PVR250 card. TV recording can be scheduled to automatically record what ever I like. Output to my TV is via a REALmagic Xcard, Mpeg-2/DivX decoder card and the picture quality is nothing short of Awesome, even VCD quality mpegs look awesome with the hardware decoding. I also have DVD ripping and encoding software so I can rip and re-encode my DVD's to SVCD quality Mpegs and store them on the hard drive giving me instant access at all my movies any time I like :) I wish all this would work on Linux, but the fact is it doesn't. OMG...That sounds F*cking Bad ASS!!!
