  4. O.K. I have direct rendering, but on every boot my monitor is being set to 1600x1200 @ 60 Hz (I was working on 1024x768 @ 85 Hz before). After booting-in I can change resolution to what I prefer, but not refresh rate. Nonetheless it last only till next restart. How to resolve this?

  7. So new AMD/ATI Catalyst driver have been released, and again I cannot install it properly on 2008.0  It has to be something wrong with Mandriva itself, as on 2007.0/2007.1 I didn't have such problem. Now I even cannot build packages for my system, because I get this message [root@localhost ATI]# ./ati-driver-installer-7-11-x86.x86_64.run --buildpkg Mandriva/2008 Created directory fglrx-install.GN7673 Verifying archive integrity... All good. Uncompressing ATI Proprietary Linux Driver-8.433........................................................................... ................................................................................ . ================================================== ATI Technologies Linux Driver Installer/Packager ================================================== Generating package: Mandriva/2008 Package build failed! Other people report to have similar issues. When I tried to install it "normally", that is using the script provided with the drivers and not building packages, firstly all seemed to be well. After the installation I ran aticonfig --initial to configure the driver, and then restarted. After reboot my monitor resolution was changed to 1600x1200 (normally I'm working on 1024x768), and the refresh rate was reduced to 60 Hz, which my eyes cannot stand for long (I have a CRT). I was able to change resolution, but not refresh rate, to desired level, but it all lasted till next restart... Of course getting direct rendering on wasn't an option. Below I attached my Xorg.0.log and Xorg.9.log for those who are patient enough to see what was in them (now I'm back to previous driver from Mandriva's DVD). Please don't write things like "install drivers from repos", because I need the newest version to play ET:QW on a decent settings, and the old version isn't an option for me. Xorg_logs.zip
  8. No one replied, so far... Does anyone use KMyFirewall on Mandriva 2008.0? If so, then how to configure it properly? Does anyone have similar problem with it?
  9. Anyone else has an idea what to try next?
  10. Anyone would help me???
  11. Nice :D And where that would be?
  12. Yea, I noticed that too. I don't understand your suggestion. As I described above almost every time I start Mandriva I have to kill and re-run those two processes to have their icons on my panel. What I want is to have those icons on their place without doing that. It's quite irritating.
  13. Hi! I'm using Mandriva 2008.0 and because I wanted to improve my menu I installed KBFX ver. 0.9.4.3.1 from repositories. [zibi1981@localhost ~]$ urpmq -i kbfx Name : kbfx Version : 0.4.9 Release : 3mdv2007.0 Group : Graphical desktop/KDE Size : 1352941 Architecture: i586 Summary : A kicker bar menu button replacement for KDE It's working smoothly, but I have one problem with it. Whenever I log into Mandriva (KDE 3.5.7) and have KBFX applet on my kicker (panel), the icons of mdkapplet and net_applet are disappearing, although both programs are working in the background. It's happening almost every time. To have them back on my panel I have to kill them and then run again. Anyone knows a solution have to solve this?

  15. Can someone post a direct link to packages with the new 8.42 driver? I can't find it anywhere...
  16. O.K., did as you suggested, but nothing has changed. KMyFirewall is still in the same place, so what was the point here? [zibi1981@localhost kmyfirewall-1.0.1]$ whereis kmyfirewall kmyfirewall: /usr/bin/kmyfirewall /usr/include/kmyfirewall
  17. Anyone know where to get them? Don't want to compile all of them from sources as I had problems with it some time ago.

Warning: you chose to install this package in /usr/lib/kde3, but KDE was found in /usr. For this to work, you will need to tell KDE about the new prefix, by ensuring that KDEDIRS contains it, e.g. export KDEDIRS=/usr/lib/kde3:/usr Then restart KDE. Good - your configure finished. Start make now
  20. I have some problems with making those drivers work. First I wanted to install them the easiest way just by typing as root sh ./ati-driver-installer-8.42.3-x86.x86_64.run and choosing Install Driver 8.42.3 on X.org 7.1 and later releases. It worked with 8.40.4 on Mandriva 2007.1 but not now. Although they seemed to be installed, they didn't work correctly. Then I uninstalled them and tried to generate packages for Mandriva 2008 but also with no avail [root@localhost ATI]# ./ati-driver-installer-8.42.3-x86.x86_64.run --buildpkg Mandriva/2008 Created directory fglrx-install.Ag9268 Verifying archive integrity... 21. What do you mean by "the button is still big"? If you want to resize it, just click with your right mouse button on the kicker (panel) and choose configuration. You can see that there is a size section in which you can resize the whole kicker.
  22. Already have them both as You can see below. [zibi1981@localhost ~]$ rpm -qa | grep automake automake-1.10-2mdv2008.0 [zibi1981@localhost ~]$ rpm -qa | grep libjpeg62 libjpeg62-6b-41mdv2008.0 libjpeg62-devel-6b-41mdv2008.0
  23. You can get the whole config.log file below. Here is what I found in it about paths. PATH: /usr/bin PATH: /bin PATH: /usr/local/bin PATH: /usr/X11R6/bin/ PATH: /usr/games PATH: /usr/lib/qt3//bin PATH: /home/zibi1981/bin PATH: /usr/lib/qt3//bin config.log.tar.gz
  24. Where can I find this logfile? I've searched whole KMyFirewall directory (the one in which I compiled it), but just couldn't find it.
