  1. Hola Army Moose... glad you took my advice. Now, your little grub problem. I wrote a How To edit grub. You can find it at http://members.cox.net/greyfoxlsu/linux/editgrub.shtml . Hopefull that will help
  2. Try Wine, never use Transgaming's software.... they hurt more than they help. And paying them money is hurting you twice
  3. Yep, you heard me right. Homeworld's engine/game source code has been released, though it is not GPL . Anyway, I really wonder how long before Icculus has a port of the game up and running for both Homeworld and Homeworld Catacylsim. http://www.relic.com/ It's on the front page right now..
  4. ATI 9000 PRO 128MB or 64MB I dont remember...... It's about a year old
  5. Unfortunately for me I have an ATI card. So I decided to install the linux drivers. No problem, reboot. X cant find the device fglrx at PCI 1:0:1 . No prob, went on line and read that you should just remove that line from the XF86config-4 file. Now X works, but I have no hardware acceleration (fgl_gears will not run) and Enmey Territory will only run in software mode. How should I fix this? For some weird reason I think it is just a simple 1 line command in the XF86config-4 file.
  6. Humm... Personally, I would use GRUB instead of Lilo. Grub is much easier to configure and is more "standard" than Lilo.... thats just me. I cant help, just giving my opinion.
  7. Eh, I just said **** it and reinstalled MDK 9.2 RC after moving everything to my WIN_F drive (yes, it's fat32 like 2/3 of my HDD is so I can work with both)... sigh I have to move in again
  8. This is a problem that really has me puzzled. Yesterday I was loading up Enemy Territory to play, and my system had a hard lock(Num lock/ caps lock dont work) (I am running RC2 after all). Anyway, I reboot, now X server doesnt really want to act right or at all. It boots me to the CLI to login. Fine no problem, then I try to startx (actaully startgnome). I get a ton of errors (xdbb I believe). And X wont start. Also after I login and hit ctrl+alt+F7, it doesnt work. Is there anyway to fix this?
  9. Aright, now that I am at home, I tested my system. There is nothing wrong with Gnome itself (I created a new user and it worked fine). Aparently, one of my scripts is bad.... how should I fix this?
  10. Well yesterday i was playing around with my system, and suddenly, gedit doesnt work, so I reboot. Now the application menu crashes out when you open it. I think Gnome is dying a slow death. Is there any way to fix this?
  11. Legends, is a Tribes 1 like game. Linux game tome added it to their data base yesterday. It plays interesting. So guys, give it a try. "Legends is a fast-paced first-person-perspective online multiplayer game. The game is designed to take advantage of the beautiful environments available from the Torque engine it is based on while still offering the breakneck pacing and variety of styles available from such classics as Quake and Tribes. Gameplay is not the strafe-strafe-jump-strafe-shoot-strafe-run-like-hell style a lot of games espouse; the addition of a jetpack adds a third dimension of mobility that makes skill, forethought, and restraint necessities to winning. Team sizes are going to be ideal between 10 and 15 on each side, and the network code will allow anyone with any bandwidth to play relatively smoothly. Game type offerings will range from the classic Capture the Flag to our own new type, affectionately called “Knockout”. Plenty of maps will be provided by us, but the beauty of this game is its customization possibilities. Mission creation has never been easier, with a stable, full-featured editor integrated into the game engine itself. Skins, models, and effects can all be modified by the end-user with commonly available tools." http://happypenguin.org/show?Legends
  12. Yay! UT2004 for linux..... now only if they release and 2003-> 2004 upgrade for $20
  13. *sigh*..... I really think that ALL games should be boycotted if they release a linux server, but not a linux client. We help make their games great on-line, and they dont give a rats ass about us. You might want to all HL2 to that list
  14. I really like GTK-Gnutella...... I've been using it since my RH 7.2 days.
  15. theYinYeti, ripping your own CD's in the USA is still legal, it falls under fair use. Downloading someone else's CD's is illegal
  16. Simple question: Where would I find a MP3 encoder that works with grip? RPM installer?
  17. Ugh...... Desktop: AMD 2700+ OCed to 2.4 Ghz MSI Nforce 2 Motherboard 1.024 GB Geil Dragon 3200 DDR Ram ATI 9000 Pro 128 MB 80 GB Western Digital HDD (8MB Cashe) SBLvie Card 52x24x24 Lite-On CD-R/RW 16x DVD Pioneer DVD NEC MultiSync LCD 1565 Runs MDK 9.2 RC2 & WinXP Pro Notebook: HP Pavilion 5425 with a D-Link DWL-650+ PCMCIA Runs Knoppix and WinXP home I had another computer, but I gave it to my parents..
  18. Well building from a source RPM fixed the problem after reboot, but I must say this also. Even though you tell you tell the MDK 9.2 RC2 to install the development packages, it does not install the kernal source. So your going to have to install it from CD 3.
  19. RC2 isa really nice and stable. Everything was detected correctly, except for my Nforce 2 ethernet card , and my NEC MultiSync LCD 1565 display (no drivers for it...) . Other than that everything is quite fast and responsive, well laided out. Gnome is great. I cant wait till 2.4 is released in RC3 (well I am hoping)..
  20. Guys, personally, I dont see this being such a bad thing. MDK is an open source product and you will be able to get rid of the ads. No if, ands, or buts. Seriously, MDK is still recovering from a bankrupcy. Chill. Mkk. Oh God an ad.... geez, it's no differnt than HP/Dell/Gateway/other computer distrobuter having ads in their OS image (since they dont give you a real back up). Many other Win9X/XP programs do the samething. Releax, it's not going to be that bad, I dont think MDK would do anything ....that.... terrible. Also, stop complaining, because your DL MDK distro has ads. Dont want them, go buy the thing. I tend to buy one point release ( I own MDK 7.2, 8.1, 9.1 and Red Hat 7.3). Support them or lose them, thats your choice.
  21. I did that last night before I went to bed. No good. It's an MDK 9.1 rpm. When i get home today, I am going to try the binary install...
  22. Ok, I cant use my ethernet card with the new 9.2 RC. Anyone know how to fix this small problem. MDK cant use my Nforce2 ethernet adaptor.. anyone knoqw how to fix this?
  23. Why do I use Linux? Well, it all started off when I was 16 in my 3rd year of C++ programming in High School. I didnt have enough money to buy MS Visual C++ 5. I heard that Red Hat had a C/C++ compiler. I tried Red Hat 5.2, liked it, but my code wasnt compatable with MS Visual C++ (damn you M$). When I came to LSU a year later (my birthday is in October) I was taking computer science classes. LSU required that we write standard C for Sun UNIX machine. This time I bought Mandrake 7.2 and loved every minute of it. I've been using mandrake and Red Hat ever since. I still program in my free time, but havent really written any useful programs outside of classes. Linux does everything I need it to, and I can still play games. one of my favorite things to do is tinker with stuff. I find it a challenge to get Win9X games to play in Linux and enjoy trying to get them to work, to me it is like a game. Another reason why I use linux is that I work with MS WinXP machines at LSU all the time (I work for the Office of Computer Services) and I know whats wrong with them, how much they screw up, and tried of fixing all of their problems. So when I get home I dont want to deal with that type of stuff. I would have a Mac G5 (my family has a history of owning Mac's, my father bought only one Intel Pentium computer). I guess my final reason is that I enserally oppose DRM, TCAP, and other forms of laws and legislation. I am holding my own personal boycott to the RIAA (if I want one of their unusually good CDs, I buy it used), and Windows (convinced my sister to buy a Mac...she wanted a Dell (because all her firends have Dells) until she played with the new iMac) who support legislation like this. I guess the reason why I use linux is because it does what I want it to do an come hell or high water will I give it up. What interests me about Linux: It's a robust programming OS that is very stable and reliable, not to mention secure. Why dont I use a differnt OS: I cant afford a Mac G5, and I use Windows all day at work. I Absolutly hate using Windows What made me start using Windows: I needed something I could program on without paying out of my ass for MS Visual C++
