  1. By the way AA, went to your site but cant see a thing.
  2. RH9 is named Shrike... thats some kind of anti radiation missle used to target radar. Very... John Wayne. Preferred 8.1 (beta) though... named Pheobe. That was much better. I'drather be reminded of Pheobe Kates.
  3. "Forward this to 20 people in the next 5 seconds or else your cat's head will cave in!!" I HAVE 7 CATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  4. Well, RedHat 9 is not really a major jump. Its basically 8.1, but since Mandrake was releasing 9.1 and Suse is about to release 9.0 also... RedHat decided it should be on version 9 too. Notice that they dont call it 9.0. Next version wil be 10.

    NWN Beta 4

Have not had luck with the previous versions, maybe this one will work for me.
  6. Interesting where we go sometimes :D
  7. PC Hub is in Gilmore across PCX. Look for Eric. Tell him Robin and Ellen referred you. We buy a fair number of parts from them (yup we build our own PC's) and have had to RMA two items so far... a floppy drive replaced on the same day and a burnt out XP1700 which took about a week to replace. When we needed a motherboard really badly he had his own perosnal driver pick up one for us at the warehouse. I know someone who has not been able to get his Creative Audigy Soundcard replaced by PCX becuase they are not carrying it anymore. He offered to take a lower end model and share the difference (Php500) with PCX. In other owrds he gets the cheaper card and PCX refunds only half thep rice difference. No go. Just go to the Lounge section of pinoypc.net and post should I buy from PCX :) Villman's is costly, but their service is good although we only buy parts from them when I can't find it elsewhere becuase of cost (Enlight casings, some Intel server stuff....). If you want a T-Bred "B", or Tyan, Promise, Epox, Lian Li, GlobalWin, Twin Moss, Vantec or PC Ram products I can get them direct from the supplier (we still listed as a reseller... although we dont sell many PC's to the public anymore... just do special jobs like set up other internet cafe's or build low end servers and high end workstations). Just PM me your contact info if you need anything.
  8. nbed: While you can put together a package like PC, it will cost you more than buying the individual parts. One caveat about the packages. They are cheaper but the standard way of buying a PC here (for those in the know) is to put together your own PC if you care about what is inside. The drawback is that packages are made up of parts that don't move. If you buy a package PC you will lileky get a AMD XP Palomino instead of the newer T-Bred's or an Intel Pentium Williameth rather than a Northwood. A lot of package have ECS AMA mootherboards with the ALI chipset and Intel packages usually come with the via chipset rather than an Intel845. By the way, the website of PCX is not updated frequently, so it is better to download their pricelist to get the current prices. ramfree: Drop by www.pinoypC.net for more RMA horror stories. I recommend buying from Villmans (the charge about 10% more) or PC Hub.
  9. Yes and no. The version offered by PCX comes with 30 days RHN support only and some other things. I forgot the exact terms but it is basically the support given to the OEM version is the same as that for the RedHat Personnal Edition. The CD's and manual are the genuine article all bearing the RedHat logo's and are imported from Singapore. No box but comes wrapped in a pastic with a manual and the CD's. Similar to the Windows OEM versions except that the RedHat manual is really a manual :D (70 or pages). I know it may sound sad.... but to a large portion of the world, Linux = RedHat.
  10. By the way, I am not sure if this particular bundling is a good thing. PCX bought those RH8.0 packs in November for resale and they were not able to sell them apparently, so starting February this year, they started giving them as freebies... before RedHat 9 makes them less attractive :( But if you go into a PCX shop (and I would not buy from them because they really make life hard for you if you RMA something).. they don't really promote Linux nor do they know anything about it. Their website is not even fully functional on Mozilla. Kind of sad, because they never pushed the product. They don't have PC's in their shop running Linux or anything. RedHat distributor (Touch Solutions) here is trying to market RedHat... too early to tell how they will do, but they are a nice bunch to deal with. http://www.touchgroup.net/
  11. "I think Linux 8.0 is Redhat Linux 8.0. But they have suppressed the "Redhat" part to avoid trademark problems. They are not allowed to use the Redhat logo because there are not official redhat-8.0 boxed sets with support." Yup, its actually RedHat 8.0. Referrence to Linux 8.0 is not because of trademark... they give you OEM "boxed" actually (CD+Guide wrap in cardbaord and plastic). Linux 8.0 is what some people in the US call RedHat 8.0 (there are some people who think Linux=RedHat).
  12. Was thinking of holding off due to some reports of bugs. But seems like they are all fixable. Can't wait to get a copy. I guess I can download one in the shop after office hours.

    install a new mainboard

Initially my advice was to reinstall. Than I read. Dragon Mage (or another mmeber of this board did this a few weeks back). Anyway went from a ECS K7S6A (SiS745) to a KT400 just this week. Everything went fine, kudzu removed all the old hardware configuration and added the new ones on first boot. Lost sound though but that because my onboard sound needs ALSA drivers. Anyway, its stable and I see no problems. This was with RedHat 8.0. but should be the same of ML9.
  14. Maybe I should stick with RH8.0 for awhile...
  15. Reminds me of my 9.0 installs. Good on one PC bad on another... :( Anyway, will try to be getting a copy this weekend. I like the new look and have been itching to dump RH8.0. Was thinking of reinstalling ML9.0 but with 9.1 so lcose to release I decided to wait.
  16. Will try that. Used Ravages installer. All I get are CTD's.
  17. Finally :) I am planning to use the installer here (should be finnished downloading when I get home later.... sigh life on 56k): http://icculus.org/~ravage/nwn/ Or should I use a different one?
  18. Can't wait. Reinstalled 9.0 a had a font problem with OpenOffice (which did not happen before). So I have been less than thrilled with ML9.

    Friendly Printer

I am using a Canon S400 and the Linux dirvers do not give it full functionality, especially with referrence to print quality.
  20. I don't know about security, and am not a Linux expert. But having tried two versions of Linux, I see Mandrake as a more cutting edge distro but at the same time a buggier less refined product than RedHat. RedHat seems to be a more conservative distro but where things work better out of the box. I have installed both distro's in at least 3 machines... and never had an issue with RH. Mandrake on the other hand gave me a broken spellchecker in 2 out of three installs. 1 in 3 had no fonts in the taskbar and menu's of OpenOffice. I use the same CD's for all three installs. While these do not relate to security, I think a buggier product has a bigger chance that it is less secure.
  21. What are you all blabering about. Return to Castle Wolfenstien RULZ Reasons: When you shot someone, his (or her) guts are splattered on the wall behind... You get to use a flamethrower (slow painful death) Cool chicks is tight leather...
  22. Okay...Debbie it is... :D (ral hurries off to download it... somehow it feels like I am entering a blackhole).
  23. Slack, Deb or Gentoo  ... I don't want to try 3 (ral bawling like a baby)... Seriously, which one?

    333 FSB

Probably right... better of with a KT333 or NForce2. Unfortunately all this will have to wait. Was planning to pick up two XP1700's today, but what they had on stock were Palomino's. So I only got one instead and reserve a Thoroughbred B when it arrives. Any feedback on the Epox 8K5A?
  25. How hard is it to use Slackware of Debian...
