  1. Iphi - you asked for it - you'll get it  2 wallpapers, romantic German christmas, 1: nature, 2:traditional German christmas markets in the old towns. SWEEEEET. (or trash?) Took hours to collect all this stuff, assemble it, resize it, arrange it with The Gimp. And don't blame me if you think that's tasteless. These are pure emotions http://home.tiscali.nl/berenstraat/bilder/.../markets_de.jpg http://home.tiscali.nl/berenstraat/bilder/...r/winter_de.jpg --anna, 01:09 am, Amsterdam
  2. Mystified - do you know this wallpaper? http://www.basehead.org/files/wallz/vampyr..._background.JPG
  3. Try in a terminal window: $ mcc If it is uninstalled, then: # urpmi drakconf Good luck!
  4. Open a terminal window, type: uname -r
  5. Make sure you have a fast i-net connection, the updates are > 100 MB In KDE: K -->Configuration/Settings (or similiar in your language) -->Configure your computer Choose: Software Management (or similiar..) in the left window (here you can also install, uninstall software - with a GUI) Window on the right: MandrakeUpdate You have to choose a ftp mirror from a list ...
  6. The screensavers are part of the kdeartwork package (on your install cd's), they are not installed per default: # urpmi kdeartwork But even after the installation they won't work: screensaver bug in MDK 9.2. You have two options: - run mandrakeupdate, i.e.: install the official updates from a ftp update mirror (the kde packages are important if I am not mistaken) - there is a solution to manually fix it, but I only recommend to do this if you do NOT plan to update your system
  7. yep, tyme is right :D ... and I suspect that you lost your menu entry, and did not uninstall MCC. So, run menudrake, or if that does not work, type in a terminal (first as root, then again as user): update-menus -v Und afterwards you might want to logout, and login again.
  8. Open a terminal, su to root and type: urpmi drakconf Hope this helps (if you really uninstalled it...)
  9. Andrewski, because nobody answered so far ... I didn't know what a Dvorak keyboard would be, had to look it up first. And then I didn't understand what your are trying. If your are trying to type German Umlauts with it, this link might help you, scroll down in the page to ' XWindows': http://www.mwbrooks.com/dvorak/national.html#german I am sorry that I can't help you with technical questions. But let me know when you need a translation from German.
  10. The -79mdk kde packages are the ones which are on the 9.2 install cd's. The -92mdk kde packages are the official Mandrake updates for 9.2 on the ftp update mirrors.
  11. Darkelve: gthumb is wonderful! In the newer version gthumb 2.1.6 this bug is fixed, for 9.1 you'll get the rpm here: http://norlug.org/~chipster/rpm_index.pxml?cat=3 And for 9.2 gthumb 2.1.6 can be found on the 9.2 - contrib mirrors.
  12. From man lame: Just wanted to say that I use a VERY nice app/GUI to encode which is not included in MDK: simplecdrx "makes use of many common CD and audio manipulation tools, namely CDRecord and its accompanying programs, CDRDAO for Disc at Once copying, CD Paranoia, Blade Encode, LAME, OGG Vorbis, MAD MPEG Audio Decoder, and mpg123. SimpleCDR-X also supports on-the-fly CD ripping to MP3 or OGG Vorbis format with no intermediate WAV files." It's great. I have more control over the encoding proces, the id3 tags, it's faster, and it's a burning tool at the same time. Get Thac's rpm's for Mandrake 9.1 and Mandrake 9.2 here: http://rpm.nyvalls.se/utils9.2.html (9.2) http://rpm.nyvalls.se/utils9.1.html (9.1) (It creates a menu item in the section Archiving/Burning ...) Of course you need lame from plf (for mp3) and cdparanoia from the install cd.
  13. pmpatrick - I don't know an easy way, but I found where this image is located that is loaded as background: /usr/share/bootsplash/themes/Mandrake/images ... several jpg's starting with vt- for different resolutions. Maybe you can manipulate it with The Gimp ?
  14. On my 'clean' installed system, this is the konsole package (1. cd): kdebase-konsole-3.1.3-79mdk.i586.rpm The main dependencies are: [chris@localhost zeug]$ rpm -qR kdebase-konsole-3.1.3-79mdk kdebase-progs = 1:3.1.3-79mdk kdebase-common = 1:3.1.3-79mdk libkdebase4-konsole = 1:3.1.3-79mdk ... (and a lot of basic .so files) You could try to re-run: urpmi kdebase-konsole-3.1.3 and post the results here.
  15. Hi akaitharam (wow what a nick) - now I am back from work, and have more time to read your first posting. You did an upgrade from 9.1 to 9.2? Which kde version were you running on 9.1? KDE 3.1.4 maybe or the original version which came with MDK 9.1? And did you upgrade with the 3 cd download release, or using an ftp install? For me it looks like the install/upgrade could not properly install KDE, because the version in MDK 9.2 is 3.1.3. You may want to check your kde version first, then check which kdebase-konsole version you are now trying to install. Possibly you are running into the dependency problems because of mixed kde's. If yes, I fear you'll get more problems - or not, I am not sure. A clean install is an option. -- oh and: welcome on mandrakeusers.org :)
  16. You'll find the konsole in the package: kdebase-konsole....mdk.i586.rpm. They splitted the kde packages. It's on one of your install cd's or on the 9.2 mirrors ('main' tree, i586 or something like this). Are you able to install this package?
  17. You might want to try this: Open a console (if you cannot, press ALT+F2 and execute konsole. Alternatively, use CTRL+ALT+F1 and login as root, then use CTRL+ALT+F7 to return to the graphical desktop). Use the su command to become root. Type : update-menus -v Mandrake will reconstruct the menus. Run the update-menus -v in a konsole as user again. Hope this helps.
  18. Create a new shortcut/icon on your desktop. Execute command is: konqueror. Then check: run as different user. Leave the user field empty If you want a konsole su: execute command is: konsole Check the 'run as different user' Other optinos: - create a new menu entry , running menudrake, don't know what to fill in there. - In a terminal type: kdesu konqueror
  19. ... forgot: a 'guy' has probably an idea too.
  20. It's part of the libstdc++2.10 blala.rpm, on cd 3 (download edition) As root: # urpmi libstdc++2.10 Or do a search in the MCC, software installation. Hope this helps.
  21. Sure the link was SIM 0.9 - :D Ok, time to learn building RPM's I thought. You can get SIM 0.9 (kde) for Mandrake 9.2 here: [LINK REMOVED] Works for me. Install it on your own risk. ICQ, Jabber, AIM -- no MSN or Yahoo Don't ask me about src.rpm, how this sim works, I only know it connects to the servers etc .. The rpm was built with checkinstall - just for fun. edit: I removed the rpm - after reading about how to provide apps for Mandrake, with a src.rpm incl. a working spec file. I can't do this, have to learn more about building rpm's.
  22. Hi Earny, well done! (.. not that I'd know what you are doing  ) indeed, looks as if your wonderful tablet is recognized, initiliazed, modules loaded. The driver version - I am not sure. wacom.c: v1.21.3 Vojtech Pavlik <vojtech@suse.cz> On the wacom site they say: kernel: wacom.c: v1.30-j0.4.0 Vojtech Pavlik <vojtech@suse.cz> kmack? bvc? The next step would be to check your XF86Config-4 file which you'll find here: /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 There need to be additional entries (which are possibly already created) to get your wacom working. Look here as an example: http://linuxwacom.sourceforge.net/index.ph.../howto/inputdev You might want to post here all InputDevice sections of your XF86 file. BTW: do you have a USB mouse AND a USB wacom tablet? Ok, waiting til kmack is awake in Indonesia (?) or bvc is joining here. --anna, [ who got NEVER asked to post her XF86Config-4 ]
  23. I hope you don't laugh at me, kmack and Earny. On my system (no tablet or whatever attached), MDK 9.2, the wacom modules come with a default install. Doing # modprobe wacom and then # lsmod show me that they are loaded. So, I don't get why Earny is trying to install additional drivers, kernel, kernel-sources? And thanks for the tablet-explanation, I understand now - it looks indeed very nice!
