What a fuzz, but at least you all convinced me to search for another cause. I reinstalled mdk 10.1, but the problem remained. After consulting my router supplier we found out that the cause was there. I use the official 2006 release (power pack dvd). So that could not be the problem After installing and configuring a new router the problem was solved. Nevertheless it remains strange that the problem with the adsl connection only arised after a linux reboot (generally within 15 minutes) and not after a windows reboot. With regard to KDE, I experienced some crashes (freezing) having 5 (obviously demanding) applications open. Another irritating thing is that the lay out of the right side of the kde bar changes spontaniously after opening certain applications (leaving an icon there). Also the start menu sometimes leaves away entire programm groups, which reappear after a reboot. With mdk 10.1 I never experienced something thing like that. In addition: my file shredder (to empty the trash can), which performs excellently iin 10.1 didn't work anymore in 2006. In 2006 I replaced it with with kgpg (a kde utility) but the files destroyed with this programm were easily recoverable using R-Linux under windows. This is really a serious issue for me as destroying confidential information is essental for me. I appreciate the efforts of Mandriva to improve its distro's. The new lay out looks great, but there are too many practical issues which are too time consuming to cope with. So, I really had it and Iĺl stick with mdk 10.1 for the time being. Regards, Earny

I had similar problems. The windows coputers recognise the linux (samba) only after 10 minites. What is worse is that mandriva 2006 kills the adsl conection in the network after a while. 2006 is the first distribution I regard a failure. Many inconsitencies and kde crashes (on a 2800 mhz machine with 1 gb ram!_. I'm tired of it and get back to mandrake 10.1

My printer is a HP Deskjer 9300. The driver was installed automatically when I installed mdk 10.1 With other files there is no problem. word files are printed flawlessly.

I can print pdf files. I use Ghostview as well as Acrobat reader. Both give a mess of numbers and letters.

I did it manually and now it works after a restart of the x server Thanks By the way the xev command didn't work neither as root nor as user.

It's a bit different now I reinstalled 10.1 and choose for ps2 wheelmouse. This worked fine, also after several restarts After changing the mouse in mcc into usb three buttons + wheel it worked as it should. Until a restart. Affetr that the wheel stopped functioning again. Nothing I can do about it. oef

I installed 10.1 and the logitech cordless mouseman mouse worked fllawlessly, After installing firefox the wheel and the third button stopped working. After trying all sort of wheelmouses in mcc, I didn'tmanage to get it working again. in "etc/x11/x86config" I get this Section "InputDevice" Identifier "Mouse1" Driver "mouse" Option "Protocol" "MouseManPlusPS/2" Option "Device" "/dev/mouse" Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5" EndSection Seems ok Could my driver be out of order? Does anyone know how to find a working rpm for the decompression of rar files? I use mdk 10.1 power pack. On the DVD there is nothing an ark doesn't work for these files.

I use Thunderbird as my mail client. Great program. However. in order to open attached files its standard appliication is OO for .doc extentions. I would like to change that, but I have to borwse everytime to another applictaion to change that. The line 'use this appication for this type of extentions from now on' is vage and cannot be used. Ant idea?

This is a 'cris de coeur': Pfff, I get frustrated. Mandrake 10.1 really seems the most troublesome distribution mandrake ever issued. Openoffice is slower than ever. (I finally installed ms office using wine in order to get a smooth and workable office suite; at least it opens within a second)) and the system gets upset easily. On my computer (nothing wrong with it: 2,8 ghz and 1 gb ram) it acts as the greatest advocate for windows. Until a few days ago I was a dedicated advocate of Linux. But now I start to get irritated to read about the great features of mandrake 10.1 Am I the only one experiencing all these malfunctions? I have some experience with mandrake 10, but in comparison with mandrake 10, 10.1 is a failure. Also my flash card reader does not cooperate anymore. Everytime I try to mount it, it refuses (dev/sda1 doesn't exist, make sure to insirt a proper disk). The only way to use it is to reboot with a flash card in it. Bit don't try to put another card. It simply refuses to recognize the new one. It goes on showing the directories of the card taken out. Is this possible? Does this sound familiar? If I can't solve this elementary problem, I consider to reinstall mandrake 10 again. ps: don't come up with the easy argument that linux is meant for more sophisticated computer users, because this is not in the interest of mandrake shareholders

Right, but than you will have to boot first. I tried with Knoppix, but I coulnd't find a way to get editing rights for the fstab file.
