  1. Are you using KDE? * Make firefox your default browser: kde control center > kde components > filetypes/mimetypes (depends on your locale ) > search field: html * then create a s/c on the desktop, right click>new>file>ass to adress (URL), just enter the http:// adress This works for me with my browser. s/c for an application, program: new>file>ass to program, give it a name, then tab: program, command: fill in the path to your program, or search button - in /usr/bin
  2. For kde: kaffeine No need for a cable, no need to change any settings. - And of course: all audio formats, and video: vcd, svcd, dvd, mpg, avi and more... streaming media, embedded in konqueror, record button to save the media stream

    kphotobook

QT version and compiler should be okay. A possible fix was posted on kde-apps.org. In the /src directory there are 6 .ui files, each of them starting with a line: <!DOCTYPE UI><UI version="3.3" stdsetdef="1"> Replace in all files the version="3.3" with version="3.2.3" ... Wonder if this would do it. And did you first: make uninstall and make distclean before starting a new compilation? As of kde 3.3. in MDK 10.1 - the rpm's not yet functional for MDK. And the 3.2.3 version is very good, what I can see on my test system, no need for 3.3. ;-) the biggest improvements were made in the kontact suite, and these rpm's are the 3.3. versions on 10.1.

You should set: --prefix=/usr MDK does not use /opt/kde3 KPhotobook indeed looks nice :-) No rpm as far as I know, for 10.0 OE. But digikam is a killer application ;-) # urpmi digikam digikam-plugins Good luck! p.s. welcome on mandrakeusers.org
  6. ... In the Mandrake Control Center click Network & Internet click Manage Connections click the _Options_ tab and set check boxes as follows x Start on boot _ Track network card _ Network Hotplugging check Start on boot uncheck Track network card uncheck Network Hotplugging ... and: # urpme tmdns Maybe this helps
  7. Reading these lines: checking for gcc... no checking for cc... no checking for cc... no checking for cl... no configure: error: no acceptable C compiler found in $PATH .... .... it tells you that you need a compiler if you want to compile stuff. # urpmi gcc Good luck!
  8. Rune, I just had a look at linuxprinting.org, your printer: http://www.linuxprinting.org/show_printer....um=Lexmark-E210 known as working perfectly - with the drivers that Lexmark provides: http://downloads.lexmark.com/cgi-perl/down...me=&fileID=1171 But I am very unsure, maybe it's just what you thought, changing user rights for a certain dir - dunno, sorry.
  9. Sorry, I misunderstood what you were saying. Guess I have no idea how to help you. Did your printer work on a previous Linux install? A quick googling 'lexmark e210 linux' brings up that this is a so called GDI or winprinter - wow, did not know that there are such things as winprinters (besides winmodems). Good luck. Anyone else, devries? <-- is a real expert :-)
  10. Suggestions... * Don't login as root, login as user * start the Mandrake Control Center, you will be asked to fill in the root password * setup your printer Does it work? p.s. I never have to login as root to start the MCC - what is exactly your problem? How do you start the mcc? ALT + F2 -- then type: mcc -- hit enter
  11. Only you know what's wrong with it, because I don't know where/what your partitions actually are. * forget about the mtab, as Steve already said. Forget it. * backup your fstab * make sure (look at them !) which mountpoints you have under /mnt - do you have /mnt/win_c and /mnt/win_c2 * if yes, then replace the two lines: /dev/hda1 /mnt/win_c ntfs auto,users,umask=0,iocharset=iso8859-15,codepage=850 0 0 /dev/hdb1 /mnt/win_c2 ntfs auto,users,umask=0,iocharset=iso8859-15,codepage=850 0 0 with these lines: /dev/hda1 /mnt/win_c ntfs umask=0,nls=iso8859-15,ro 0 0 /dev/hdb1 /mnt/win_c2 ntfs umask=0,nls=iso8859-15,ro 0 0 * save the edited fstab * reboot, any error maessages, if yes: which errors? What is this entry in your fstab: none /mnt/hd supermount dev=/dev/ide/host0/bus0/target1/lun0/part1,fs=ext2:vfat,--,umask=0,iocharset=iso8859-15,kudzu,codepage=850 0 0 Makes no sense to me. Did you create this? Or do you have a usb hd connected? (why did you change your working fstab after the install, I don't get it ..) * learn more about mounting and fstab: man mount man fstab * learn about how partitions are numbered and called in Linux :-) The lazy way to repair a messed up Mandrake 10.0 system: * insert your first MDK install cd * choose install * choose: upgrade after the installer detects your mdk system * answer the questions. Your config will be set back to the defaults. And maybe some updates and add. software you have installed are erased. You'll get a fresh 10.0 system.
  12. This is my fstab entry (default created by the installer and working): /dev/hda1 /mnt/win_c ntfs umask=0,nls=iso8859-15,ro 0 0 Make sure your mountpoints do exist.

  14. Since 10.0 mandrake does not put an icon for cdrom/writer/dvd on the desktop by default but uses magicdev/dynamic scripts to create them: if I insert a data cd into my drive, an icon appears on my desktop. Inserting a blank cd-r: k3b opens Inserting an audio cd: the audio player is started automatically. Connecting a usb mass storage: new hd icon on the desktop appears. Are you saying that does not work for you? If I would create manually another icon, I would get two icons ;-) for the same device. Creating them: right click desktop --> create new --> device --> burner, don't forget to click on the third tab: device and fill in: /dev/hdb or /dev/hdc or /dev/hdd, depends where your drive is.

    URL

Kieth, must be something with the settings of your hoster. Very weird: I can't access your adress without /index.html, i am getting something in Italian langauge that this domain is available. - But it should be preconfigured to direct me to index.html. With /index.html I can see your page, and clicking on the links does change the url in the adress bar.
  16. lol, bvc, yep - and why don't they use it as default desktop:
  17. # urpmi drakxtools drakxtools-newt drakconf rpmdrake menudrake possibly also: menu mdk-menu-messages
  18. Me too And it's easy to change the blue background, just a setting in kde control center, desktop, panels settings. The yellow star is not silly at all :D Says something about the magic mandrake :-)

    URL

I copied your code into a new html file I created: <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/loose.dtd"> <html> <head> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8"> <meta name="generator" content="Bluefish"> <title></title> </head> <body> <a href="http://kbloyd.interfree.it/History-of-church.html">History of church</a><br><br> <a href="http://kbloyd.interfree.it/History-of-church.html"><img vspace="2" hspace="10" align="middle" style="border: 0px solid; width: 25px; height: 25px;" alt="" src="file:///home/kieth/web-pages/Bloyd%27s/BUTton-small.jpg"></a>History of church<br> </body> </html> The first section is just for testing ;-) Works for me with the changed url. - The only odd thing is your line: src="file:///home/kieth/web-pages/Bloyd%27s/BUTton-small.jpg" That won't work on the web ;-) And the text is not a link, only the image. Do you have the problems with all links? Maybe a setting in the headers. Copy my html text, make a new file with my headers, and see if it works. I am not an html expert, though.
  20. Which superkaramba version do you use? 0.33 ? there is a bug in it. Use superkaramba 0.34. here is a link: http://home.tiscali.nl/berenstraat/mdktest...100mdk.i686.rpm Delete your kde/autostart entry. Uninstall the old superkaramba. Install the new one. You'll get an icon in your main bar, right side. No need to put anything in autostart. It will remember your settings, as long as you don't close superkaramba. At least that's how it works her.
  21. We are in different timezones, Jack, that's why my answers are a bit late ;-) ad 1. ok, same here. ad 4. what to change in lilo.conf was in my original thread. ok here again. there are entries in lilo.conf for each OS, and some for a sort rescue mode for the same OS, looks *similiar* to this: image=/boot/vmlinuz label="Mandrake" root=/dev/hda3 initrd=/boot/initrd.img append="devfs=mount acpi=ht splash=verbose" vga=788 read-only Change the line vga=788 (or in your case 791 or different, does not matter) to: vga=normal This will change the boot procedure to text mode. (and something else when you are working without X), but won't change your normal graphic environment. - To edit the config file I suggested that you would start a texteditor in SU mode, you don't have to init 3 to edit this file. Just clickup a konsole, type: kdesu kwrite kdesu: this is an easy way to start an(y) application in the graphical env. as root. Then open /etc/lilo.conf - After editing, as root in aterminal (no need for init 3), type: lilo -v - Reboot. This is necesssary in this case to disable the framebuffer to get rivatv working and not lockup your box ;-) - to load the module you indeed su to root in a terminal (no need for init 3) and type: modprobe rivatv dma=1 Then you would need to install tvtime or xawtv or mplayer to watch your videos or tv. Please read my thread again. I am not too experienced with this stuff either. Good luck !
  22. First, welcome on this board, Jack :-) Just saw it was your second posting. Which Mandrake version and which kernel are you running? Clickup a terminal/konsole and type: uname -r <enter> The result is your kernel version. If you are on Mandrake 10.0 Official, then the rivafb (the name of the module) is compiled into the kernel 'as' module, but it's not loaded by default. You can check if the module is present by looking in: /lib/modules/2.6.3-7mdk/kernel/drivers/video/riva The lilo.conf file is in /etc edit: just saw that you are a newbie, before editing any config file it's a good idee to make a copy of the original file and save this copy. In case something goes wrong you can go back to this file Be carefully, it's the configuration file for the bootloader. After you edit it (only works as root, type in a konsole: kdesu kwrite ) you need to run: lilo -v (as root) to write the changes and install the new configured bootloader. Then you need to reboot. And you'll see that you are now booting without graphical stuff ;-) The command (as root in a console): modprobe rivatv dma=1 will load the riva driver.
  23. Hi Jack, no need to play with kernel modules, look at my thread here: http://mandrakeusers.org/index.php?showtopic=14977 The rivatv modules did work for me, but I have not had the time and energy to care more about the video quality.
  24. some like the native kde menustyle more
  25. run menudrake, click on menustyle, choose the mdk menu style. save.
