    New phone

I use GNOME sometimes when I feel like running XGL :P

    New phone

Okay, set to synchronus i/o which solved copying. I still like to know if there´s some automagical way of inserting new devices without having to see either diskdrake or fstab?
  4. I changed to cooker, which is kinda cutting edge atm (read: broken a lot) and therefor need to update often :P

    New phone

A Sony Erickson w810i; I figured out how to mount it via mcc though I am still unable to copy files succesfully. Everything appears to copy but when I look in the phone nothing is there and when I remount the phone the files are not there either, weird.... edit, it does work in xp and here the relevant line from fstab: /dev/sdc1 /media/card vfat umask=0,user,noauto 0 0

    New phone

Hi I just got a new phone, I can see 2 new devices in the devices tab in konquerer but it won´t mount automatically. Can I configure so it will be mounted automatically? I don´t want to edit fstab every time I plugin a new device.
  7. I had this happening many times with KDE updates, useally its a combo of not completely updating all kde components, not updating config files (which are sometimes safed as .rpmnew) or something with the proprietary video driver. Try urpmi etc-update and then etc-update, change the driver to the xorg one and check installed components...
  8. Ah, the world´s introduction to win98 was a bsod, and still everybody bought it. But indeed I wonder how much the installer was tested, because I downloaded Kubuntu Dapper Flight 5 and that didn´t include an install option.
  9. Indeed it is trying it right now :) Can get it to wotk though, setting up the sources :(
  10. Couldnt this be because you used the synthesis list for urpmi and the regular list for smart?
  11. Indeed it is trying it right now :)
  12. For my Smart --gui is way waster, than rpmdrake, not when you compare urpmi and smart install because uprmi is faster. But I wish we had Synaptic on Mandriva, it´s great, easy to use and very fast and when I look at the copyright it´s even made by Conectiva... One other thing about smart --gui, it only does all the dependency checking once, not with every new package you click, this saves a lot of time...
  13. kcalc it´s called on my system and it´s hidden under kmenu->office->accessories
  14. It´s another package manager, just type: urpmi smart-gui from a console as root and then to start type: smart --gui.

    Nvidia problems

Personally I never had any problems with the stripped kernel sources and they save about 150MB in disk space. What I would do also is uninstall everything nvidia from mcc and theb reinstall the nvidia-dkms of the desired driver version, as this will install all needed nvidia components. You still seem to have components of the old driver installed nvidia-7676 .
  16. yeah slow for me to, thats why i use smart (smart --gui) in stead...

    Nvidia problems

Center is okay but don´t go to far West and especially not East, looking particulary jewish (ie. wearing a kippah) :(

    Nvidia problems

Unfortunately things are changing over here and these these it is again not wise anymore to be a jew in Amsterdam edit: to keep my post a bit on topic, why don´ you try adding mde´s repositries, they have the latest kernel and kernel sources and nvidia drivers....

    Crackers!

Yeah, initially just an AV + Firewall, later I had to buy a new modem which has NAT and a firewall. In the beginning I used to scan constantly but I never found anything. And like I said elsewhere in this thread, I had the occasional portscan... I am not running a firewall now though, because I think it´s a waste of resources, my router has an IP-tables based firewall anyway....

    Crackers!

I did have a firewall running and occassionally it would warn me about port scan, but never a full fledged attack and when I got my new modem/router even these stopped...

    Crackers!

I thought linux was supposed to be safe. I didn´t even have a password on my admin in XP, and in 3 years of nearly being online continuesly, surfing pr0n :P and warez, nothing ever happened to my system :o

    Crackers!

I have a 8MB line and it takes over 30 secs before the page loads, in Opera, FF and Konqueror... (might be dns look up or something like that after the site loads, browsing within the site is fast)

    Crackers!

Sorry to butt in, erm this user mc is only more or less a guest account but I had just set up my computer yesterday to give full access to my ntfs partitions. Can hackers get in with this user? Where are my system security logs? BTW: I heard this script is quite good, better than denyhosts apparently in combination with APF: http://www.rfxnetworks.com/bfd.php

    Crackers!

Damn, I have a user called mc; What is your set up gowator, do you have a router with nat and firewall. Where is this log, I wonder if I am putting myself at risk too...
