all is well now.... don't know how it got started on the DVD-Rom, but i copied the dvdrom line over to my cd rewriter but excluded the ro option(it is a burner) here is a copy of my /etc/fstab, if it will help anybody else out with the supermount issue. /dev/hdb1 / ext3 defaults 1 1 /dev/hdc /mnt/cdrom iso9660 user,iocharset=iso8859-1,noauto,ro,exec 0 0 /dev/hdd /mnt/cdrom2 iso9660 user,iocharset=iso8859-1,noauto,exec 0 0 /dev/fd0 /mnt/floppy auto umask=0,user,codepage=850,iocharset=iso8859-1,noauto,sync 0 0 /dev/hda1 /mnt/windows vfat umask=0,iocharset=iso8859-1,codepage=850 0 0 none /proc proc defaults 0 0 /dev/hdb5 swap swap defaults 0 0 Thanks for your patience.

HAL comes with LE2005........... WHAT AM I DOING WRONG? have tried editing fstab(still a noobie) and not sure i'm checking(or unchecking)the right options a little more specific help would be GREATLY appreciated.

what alternatives are there to supermount? i want to be able to stick a cd into cdrom and have a mounted window show up on my desktop.
-
now running 2.6.13.3 kernel on LE 2005. have issues with supermount now...... but thats another topic..... (newbie trying to grow up.)
-
have successfully installed 2.6.13.3 twicenow(going for number three as I type). keep losing supermount along the way... however cedega finds my cdrom. but, konQuereor can't show me the files. also, whenevr i try to reconfigure the kernel, (after following the above steps, plus selecting which initrd to use in MCC), upon trying to boot the new kernel, i get a panic about cant find init. (have even used init= option in boot loader append). mounting my CD-Burner and DVD-ROM is a big issue. trying to reconfigure the kernel is an even bigger issue. guess u can still call me newbie.... and STILL trying to get AWAY from Windoze....... going on 3 years now.......

found the HT and SMP options in the Processor type menu of menuconfig........ <{POST_SNAPBACK}> now all is well! swapped hdds and re-installed Win and LE2005 with a SMP kernel with Nvidia drivers everything going great................sofar

Correct! found /lib/modules-2.6.11-12mdkcustom successfully booted my FIRST kernel compile........ however, on the kernel.org page..... the 2.6.13.2 link IS a patch file. over to the right is an F link which is the FULL source.......... just my TWO cents :P

BEFORE the dual-cores came out, i was told by ALOT of so-called puter techs, that if iwanted to go faster than 2.5GHz, then Intel was the way to go. Hence, my new P4 3GHz 800 FSB w/HT i875 Intel mobo, 1024 Mb RAM running a SMP kernel My only AMD experience was with the K6-2 days........... what intel Celeron 300A (overclocked to 450MHz)did in ONE clock cycle, amd K6-2 450MHz did in TWO! according to modern benchmarks of this era.......... found this out in the overclocking hey-day of the Celeron 300A era...... just my two cents

found the HT and SMP options in the Processor type menu of menuconfig........

not on the 2.6.11-12mdksmp kernel i am using the official pkg1.run.......... BUT, i just today successfully compiled and installed a kernel (only changed the processor family to P4) and installed the NVIDIA driver on this kernel Now, I need to know how to configure the kernel myself for SMP THANKS
-
i want to jump in on this...........so forgive me. but that is EXACTLY where my error is! i named my new kernel simply custom when i do:#mkinitrd /boot/initrd-custom.img custom i get: /lib/modules/custom is not a directory forgot to make modules_install sorry

pctech101.com Mandriva 6-CD set=$12.99 unfortunately most of the included drivers are already out-dated

does that include using cedega?................
