  1. I think when they do an Internal Audit, they are trying to trace back EVERYTHING. RH want's to know would could possible cost them money if anything. I just hope RH, IBM and whoever else joins end sends SCO to there grave. I'm tired of hereing there FUD!
  2. It will never be to late for Sun, There also coming with there own version of Linux, they stoped Sun Linux 5 a few months ago which was built off of RH7.3, but have decided to go with it again. As-far-as a server, give me an UltraSparc with Solaris 9 and I'm a happy camper.
  3. Me 3, (just wanted to sound like a geek!)
  4. I read the news letter about Lisa the developer for it, (gentoo devel). Here's another link, http://dev.gentoo.org/~lisa/distcc/distcc.html
  5. For all of those RH user that want Graphical boot but don't want to pay the price of running a beta, here you go. # rpm -Uvh ftp://mirror.hiwaay.net/redhat/redhat/lin...7.28-1.i386.rpm # rpm -ivh ftp://mirror.hiwaay.net/redhat/redhat/lin....9.4-1.i386.rpm Works on mine, if it breaks yours sorry.
  6. I voted Linux, I have a zarus! I had no problems syncing it with RH? Haven't tried anyone else.
  7. I don't use RPMS, but I think it would put it into the kernel, BUT I would certianly view /etc/lilo.conf & verify.

    Stupid MBR question

This worked for me when College Linux hosed my MBR from being able to install anything else. I couldn't put any other Linux distro or windows on tell I found this command. I think it might be a cospiracy by CL. 8)
  9. I believe he's using MDK, since is original post states it! listen - wise ass..... :!: :!: I guess I should read more carefully. 8)

    New NVIDIA

Ok, now it worked. It was going from around 65-75 @ 1280x1024 32 bit selected in options in ET.
  11. I would do rpm -ivh <.rpm> i = install <best option for kernel's> U = update your old kernel to the new one. If you "install", you will have both so if 2.6 doesn't work, you have something to fall back on.

I don't know if this is correct or not, but I started up glxgears while quake3 was installing, xmms playing, mozilla(this board up) and kicked off and started playing Enemy Territory for a few minutes. How do I check While I'm in a game? I know, no one ever believes me even though I post it. Maybe I'll do a screeshot so people will have more proof.

  15. I believe he's using MDK, since is original post states it! Yes, like tyme states knoppix will be easier to install then Debain and yes, Libranet 2.7 is free to download which is also easier to install. I'm not sure by your post, but you can install knoppix on your hd. http://www.freenet.org.nz/misc/knoppix-install.html

  17. I voted "It Sucks". I tried it in the past when it was beta (you know I try every linux once(atleast)). If you want Tried & True Linux, go with :slackware: No, it doesn't have "emerge" or "apt-get" which I do like, but in the end, I don't need 40,000 packages at my disposal. Every package created for Linux runs on :slackware: it's called the src, use the src young Linux Knight, use the src. Ok, ok so I got a little cheeky at the end!
  18. I don't know if it matters, but do they have a new mod-utils package too? I know in :slackware: you have to upgrade if you want to play around with 2.5/2.6.

    New NVIDIA

I get an average of 17,000 fps in :slackware: @ 1280x1024 with the latest nvidia drivers, I was getting that in the past though. :libranet: also give's me the same numbers. I'm at work, I'll post when I get home so people don't think I'm lying. Spec's are bellow in the sign.
  20. The article shows what results he got for the different optimisations. http://home.comcast.net/~jcunningham63/lin...timization.html Very soon i will have two athlon xp's at home so i will be able to use one for rebuilding most of the time while still being able to play on a fast system :D I saw that same article and tried those flags in Gentoo and it kept crocking on the intsall. The only thing I could see was: -march=athlon-xp it didn't like. I used -mcpu=athlon-xp instead and it worked fine.
  21. Did you ever get this working tyme? From what I have looked up about TwinView, it should be able to do differnt screens w/ different apps. http://developer.nvidia.com/attach/3005?ty...ort&primitive=0
  22. THis is only a guess, but say you order the Athlon edition I would guess that they are using the following flags. CHOST="i686-pc-linux-gnu" CFLAGS="-march=athlon-xp -O3 -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer" Whish is about as safe as you can get and have it pretty optimized, any more editions to that and you could start building a unstable system. That is ONLY my feeling when I used Gentoo alot in the past. It seemed that anything past that and things started to flake out on me. So in ending, I would say YES it will be MORE optimized and faster than you current distro. Unless you've rebuilt your mdk rpms with those settings. Even then it's probably faster. In the end, it could only be nanoseconds, but still faster.
  23. The only other OS's I use are Solaris Sparc, play around time-to-time with Solaris x86, FreeBSD & OpenBSD. None of those listed above I feel have the Multimedia & GAMES that I can use in Linux. I'm just used to Linux and it has everything I want so that is why I use it the most. Plus it's FREE, (only talking against M$ here).
  24. I mentioned this earliaer, 1.3 or some other vesrion had packages on the downloads cd for Gnome, KDE, Mozilla & OOo. You simply run a script and they installed. But I believe the ebuilds were still there. Like bvc mentioned, it's marketing. There is no doubt that Gentoo has taken the Linux users by storm, everyone wants to tweak there system, and when gentoo came out, everyone got all crazy about it. I did over a year ago and thought it was the coolest thing since sliced bread. It is a nice distro, I wont take that away from them. Just because there selling a version with pre-built binary's doesn't mean you cant tweak it out. I think it is a GREAT move for them to gain more momentum. They used to offer Stage3 in athlon, i485, 586 & 686, that's all there doing now. only they have it more refined and are pushing it better in my opinion. Gentoo will be another Slackware, Debian, RH, SuSE & Mdk, there in it for the long haul, there not going away anytime soon. You can bet your bottom dollar on that.
  25. I'm cool, I was kidding and I believe tyme was too.
