Hi there, I am trying to be a good boy (new years resolution) and want to organise my backups. I have a NAS hard drive attached on my network and would rather save my backups on it. To reach this HD (on my 192.162.1.200) I use samba. The only protocols that drackbackup proposes are ftp, ssh and rsync. I don t know which one to pick and how to configure them. Any idea? Hi there, Yesterday, while waiting for a thing to download I played with my KDE themes and decided to change theme. I suddenly lost all frames of my windows, I therefore can t move any of them. Besides I can t type in my konsole windows and only three letters in the seach box on firefox! Any ideas? I tried reinstalling nvidia drivers, no change. Ta! Stef :o (using gnome...) Hi all, I started the new year with upgrading (for free) my connection from 2 to 8MB with BT. I already was a customer and just replied positively to one of there adverts. With the service came the BT home hub which I am supposed to put instead of my D-link DSL-G604T which I am quite happy with. So, I though I d give it a try because it seems that the wireless connection is stronger (according to my girlfriend's laptop). The router/hub comes with only 2 Ethernet sockets but 1 USB a and 1 USB B and a phone socket in case you want to use VOIP. I had a job to configure internet but eventually found out (ethereal/Wireshark) that the gateway is not 192.168.1.1 like me old routeur but 192.168.1.254. I then plugged my NAS in the free Ethernet socket and sam4k detected it with no problem. It puts the NAS on 192.168.1.253. Now I have to configure my network printer server (Edimax) but I have not yet started to look at that! The feeling is that the routeur is good despite the only 2 Ethernet sockets but is locked on BT and it s not easy to get to the setup (DMZ, Open ports, firewall etc...). The hub is in fact made by Thompson. it is base on the speedtouch 7G with a chipset bcm6348, whatever that is! What I would love is to be able to play a bit with the configuration, so far I can acces a series of command lines by typing telnet 192.168.1.254 but I don t know what language that is , it does only respond to help or ? and the menus are not very user friendly. So, why this post? well I did not find anywhere how to configure it under Mandriva. so here we are for newbies : menu -> system -> configuration -> configure your system <password for supervisor> -> network and internet ->setup a new internet... -> Ethernet <choose your driver> -> manual config ->choose an IP address like 192.168.1.53 or something -> choose your gateway and DNS servers as 192.168.1.254 finished. click next till the end and it should all be good To go to the BT hub's home page just type 192.168.1.254 and there you are! That 's all. I would welcome feedback on people already using that hub, and hopefully hacking it! To follow this, note that the BT-hub seems to give automatic IPs between 192.168.1.64 -> 192.168.1.253 It is possible to open ports for Azureus and to configure a dyndns address in the advanced setup, nevertheless to reach these menu you must (via telnet) reconfigure the users and setup an admin and a superuser. Hi John, Yes go for hauppauge it s very compatible LINUX and you can find all the modules to activate in the 2.6 kernel (I recall u are on 2.6.17-8mdv). Software-wise I love kino for the DV files, it will do anything you want. If your files need shrinking a bit I would use tovid with the ffmepg option, this is fairly fast and delivers most of the time. Another one to consider is avidemux, good stuff there, mainly if you have a timeshift between the sound and the video, that happens often to me. Hi, I ve been playing Quake 3 and 4 as well as doom3 for a while on linux, http://www.linux-gamers.net/modules/news/a...hp?storyid=1738 installs quake4 for you in your home directory and then you copy all the pak files in your /q4base directory. Then it s all a question of trial and error by editing the Quake4config.cfg file to alter drivers etc... but even without doing so it should work. Well, a 64 Bits install can use some 32 Bits application but the contrary is not true. When I was having troubles with 2007 I tried Suse and I got better results with the install but the same problems with the lm-sensors. It s early hours for 2007.1, I expect this release should solve most of our problems. Does your install work with a 32Bits version or not? Stef

Hi, I ve got quite a few niggles too with my mobo which is very similar (M2NPV-VM). 1- if I boot on a DVD which contains both trees for 32 and 64 it will only install the 32 Bits whatever options I get. That said, most people advised me to install 32 anyway for poor rpm availability in 64 Bits. 2- In order to be able to boot the system on my cd-dvd reader I have to put Linux noapic nolapic otherwise it does not finish the install. 3- lm-sensors does not work whereas it works on my 2006 version. I think that s all what went really wrong, the rest I was able to solve using this site or just studying how my 2006 is working and try to apply the same drivers/settings to the 2007. BUT I defenetly find the 2006 more reliable. I am just trying the 2007.1 alpha version of the Gnome version. It works fine on the live version but won t install. I get (after diskdrake) an error : ARRAY(0x1dc3490) which tells me happy new year in machine language I suppose then nothng happens and the install does not proceed. Stef

I did the install from a DVD from a magazine and I am using the 32Bits version as the DVD did not want to install the 64 Bits. Hi, My T3 does not work with kpilot on 2007 whereas it does under 2006 and cooker. The only difference I can find is the 2 last lines about blacklisted modules. I tried to manually remove those but they keep coming back, any ideas? Hi there, It s Christmas and my birthday is just a few days before! So like every year I am stuck on what to ask Santa for. I ve decided to get a cordless desktop set as keyboard and mouse. I don t really want to get musch hassle to look for drivers for that though, so If anyone could give me hints on which set to choose that would be a great help. Same here, the live version works well, and the hard-drive install did not work. I didn t find anything unusual about the live version, but it is an alpha version, I will still keep my eyes pealed and wait for the beta Stef

Thnks Ian! I am doing a lot of experimenting and so far TS seems the best. Encoding-wise, tovid -dvd -wide -quality 10 -ffmpeg -force gives me the best result, a DVD-like quality... Hi, I have recently played around with a DVB-T TV card (hauppauge nova-T) and have excellent results with Linux, poor results with windoze, yeepee!! But I knew that would happen... We use it to record our favourite programs (planet earth etc..) and our goal is to then burn the file on a DVD and play it on our 32'' LCD TV with digital quality. So far here is what I do : Record the program with kaffeine Transcode the .m2t file to a DVD format file with Tovid (mpg DVD video and sound compliant) Burn the DVD using Varsha (excellent program never failed me!) When recording with Kaffeine, I have a choice of three formats : TS, MPEG_PES and MPEG_PS. I can t find anywhere a difference between those, nor can idvid if I test an already recorded file.
