  1. Hello, I have used my printer (EPSON STYLUS PHOTO 900) in earlier versions of Mandrake with no problems whatsoever. I've never installed any drivers for it - it worked right out of the box. However, with the new Mandriva 2007 i cannot print anything. I tried reinstalling the printer and the OS successfully recognizes it and configures it and when I try to print something it says those "Page sent to printer.." confirmations and everything looks OK, however nothing actually happens. When I go to the cups configuration page via the web browser the printer is named like this: What does that mean? I can also see here all of my print jobs with status "stopped". Please help.
  2. Resolved. The file /etc/fonts/conf.d/04-mdk-avoid-bitmap.conf makes Firefox prioritize Lucida over the other fonts set in a css file. This probably is a bug or something. What needs to be done (a quick fix) is to remove the tags that contain replacement Lucida and everything in between.
  3. oh yeah I know that one. If you are referring to the GUI way to activate anti-aliasing, I've already done it. I have the "exclude" range deselected too. I do agree with a previous post that for Google's AdWords page it looks like that anti-aliasing shuts down for a moment. What might be causing that?
  4. yes, I have installed MS fonts already. still on certain pages fonts look broken or crushed as on the attachment i've included. they also look the same when I visit forums.powweb.com .. I don't want to disable the feature in firefox because I like to view the webpage the way designer meant to be viewed..
  5. Hello, Not every page, but some do look very ugly in Firefox. For example a portion of adwords.google.com looks extremely ugly and the place where you input user/pass is OK (see the attachment!). What do I do?
  6. Hello, I'm trying to send files from my Samsung mobile D500 to my PC. I'm completely utilizing Mandriva 2007's errata and am able to send files from my PC to the mobile phone. However, I cannot send anything vice versa. I'm lost as I don't know even where to begin debugging this problem. Here is my hcid.conf file for a start: Please help!

didn't know such a command existed.. interesting... how do I merge them latter?

    tar/gzip

I have a directory with a bunch of files exceeding 400MB in total. Is it possible to create multiple archives tar/gzip(it doesn't matter which) each of them having max size of 6MB and have 67 such small archives? Can this be somehow automated without creating each archive one by one manually? Thanks.
  9. thank you Steve. Works like a charm on my Mandriva Box. However I also need to issue this command on a FreeBSD and 'find' there views files with just one percentage sign: %20 instead of %%20. Can you please adjust the command above for that environment too. :) neddle: unfortunately, there is no rename command available on the FreeBSD box I'm using..
  10. i need a bash script to bulk rename a bunch of files containing %%20 in their filename with the space character " ". this %%20 is generated when downloading files with wget that contain spaces.. can someone please help me?
  11. is it possible to mislead traceroute? i.e. a server which is only 2-3 routers away, to be displayed as it's 20 or more routers away? thanks.
  12. done. it works perfectly again. I remember I tried reinstalling the driver a few times via MCC, but that didn't change anything. I reinstalled the driver via cups web interface and the printer works like a charm :)
  13. I have this printer which I've been using for over a year in Mandrake 10.1 at it worked perfectly well. Now I've switched to Mandriva 2006 and printing is going very slow. Actually, once the printer starts printing its going OK, but there is a huge delay between pressing the "Print" button and once the printer actually starts printing. When i log in to CUPS via http it says "Processing..." - this takes very long - about 1 min for a 2pg. text document. what might be the problem?
  14. I too had problems finding the right ftp application... so far igloo has been the best but it's not free.. jFTP is free for non-commercial use and it has all the basic features working 'bugfree' www.jmethods.com
  15. The version of KGet included in Mandriva 2006 (v0.8.4) does not prompt for username/password when I download files from password-protected http locations. I've used KGet in Mandriva 10.1 to perform this task successfully for over a year. Now the new version simply reports the file as non-existant and continues down the que. What might be the problem?
  16. So I wake up today, start my freshly installed mandriva 2006.. I open my /home directory and I find there about 10 files randomly named such as: wav312gIIMXXG.wav wavSu3Meer1X2.wav jpgOv7YI7GquJ.jpg jpgy2cKAqHoHG.jpg gif9UqTjXip1T.gif gifdP4uyMvHuF.gif gifIgqrrTeMFP.gif gifjnPtKyJEeC.gif gifJwepkT7D8f.gif gifRXUDOkhmrQ.gif .. and a few other .bin files which I've deleted just to be on the safe side.. once i saw that, immediately started looking at logs (thought i was exploited :)) but found nothing... then i ran clamscan only to find some worm labeled Worm.SomeFool.P. how did that get there?? according to timestamp all the files were placed between 00:30 and 01:30 this morning.. I openned up Kmail and found some notifications by my ISP's virus scanner about attachments containing that same worm but I didn't know it could work under linux so I just sent those messages to trash instead of permanently deleting them... has anyone experienced this before??
  17. never mind. find it that stupid f**king thing "table limits".
  18. accidentally, i've pressed some key combination or something and now I can't see table borders of size 0. These (in normal conditions) should be displayed with a thin gray line which is not printed or viewable on Page Preview. please help this is driving me nuts!!!

    fake urpms

bvc, can you please recommend some to me?

    fake urpms

well, now i cannot find a mirror that actually uses keys.. even the example in the case (club-internet.fr) doesn't have them anymore... and when I was talking about virus, it does not neccessarily mean an actual virus.. maybe some malicious script which erases everything in my home directory...

    fake urpms

I was wondering... How am I protected from downloading a fake urpm from the easyurpmi mirrors? (eg. instead of downloading an update, i'm downloading a virus cause someone compromised the server) ????
