  1. My whole life is gathering dust since I bought WoW  I love UT2004, one of the best FPS ever imho. I need the Mac version for my powerbook though - and since I've already paid for the Windows / Linux version, I can't be arsed to buy it again. Downloading it is a problem too. It's a huge image. Guess I better get started :P Looks like I will be dusting off UT 2004, I just quit WoW. Not because I was addicted or anything :D, start a new job shortly, and WoW was taking up too much time for me. On the downside though, I now have a KDE desktop...........some random freak result of giving up WoW, well at least that's my excuse ;)
  2. Yup, I agree wit the above, Aluminium entitles you to precious little. Watch out for some of the Alumni members (i.e. those that used to support Mandriva financially), some do bite
  3. Unreal Tournament 2004 advertised it on the box. We need more developers like those. Yup they sure did, sadly tho the box has been gathering dust since I bought WoW.
  4. ha...sitting upright. that's why you get a comfortable, leaning chair! :P Not advisable when the keyboard and mouse are used. It's ok relaxing with say a joypad, complicate things and you really need to sort yer posture out. Anyway between consoles and PC's both have their merits. I would rather be playing a First Person style or strategy game on a PC, but absolutely hate doing so on a console, sorry but the whole mouse and keyboard combo beats a joypad ands down in this instance. But when it comes to your traditional beat-em ups/action/platform/sports games consoles win hands down. Okay yo can get a joypad/stick for a PC, but IMHO, they don't compare in quality terms with say a joypad on a playstation, or a megadrive, etc.
  5. <<<< Mine (an I reckon it will be staying for a while....)
  6. IIRC this plugin has been mentioned before, but it was a bit buggy previously. I hope things have improved since then. Hopefully there will more documents using the ODT format, more so given that Microsoft is working towards making it's office suite compatible with the format (although expect it to break ODT files, in the grand scheme of marketing Microsofts "superior" formats).
  7. Ooooh, where do I start..... Double Dragon Final Fight Street Fighter (in particular II) Eternal Champions Streets of Rage (1-3) Mortal Kombat Sonic the hedgehog Golden Axe Forgotten Worlds Bomberman Shinobi Super Mario Bros Zelda Will add more as i remember them
  8. What they said. Seriously purchasing power and demand are the heaviest influences on companies and the decisions they make!
  9. From what I can gather the torrents are open to everyone, members or not - which isn't quite what I expected. Seems like as well as the many live "One" versions, there are sets of 3 CDs, a single DVD, and also a "mini" CD with just a minimal install on. Quite a positive surprise (yes I really did say that, doesn't mean that I am gonna download it though, only one week or so till I'm updating to FC6 :D) IIRC the only repo's that were restricted to the club in the past was the club repo itself, Official is the holding ground for the commercial packages (I don't ever remember this being passworded to be honest, maybe wrong)
  10. I'm impressed, (whihc is a first, as normally KDE styles don't), could you let us know what styles you are using?
  11. It's not a final release though. Personally I will be waiting for final to arrive next week. Should this really be in portal news?
  12. Apprently you do care, because the version of Ubuntu I used was exactly what you described as "a no no". Yeah because the best comparisons are like for like, with one common denominator, even if it is just for your own benefit, the fact that you have that table there and presenting it publicly is implicitly inviting people to draw comparisons based on the statistics presented! (Could some one maybe split this discussion, kinda ruining the show off thread, sorry!)
  13. Have you installed any icon themes likely? One sugestion may be that you have installed a corrupt theme, or one that has been designed for an out of date version of gnome.
  14. actually, it says: At the bottom of the page that Gul linked to, which is an official Mandriva site ;) I was quoting emmanuel, not Gul
  15. Thanks for your feedback! Sarcasm aside, Ubuntu 5.10 was current when I reviewed it, and now Mandriva 2007 is current when I'm viewing that. I make no commitments to review every version of every distro. That would require far too much effort so I make a sample depending on what I find interesting. I also looked at Xubuntu 6.06 if you read on. If you don't want to compare boot times or start times then don't, or if you want to take into account the version numbers and ages then do. However I personally think the comparisons are useful. Not exhaustive, not complete, but still useful. Of course I'll take a look at future Ubuntus too, or maybe something different. And of course I'll be getting the fully released (no longer beta) Mandriva 2007 to have a proper look, most probably both the One (to update that brief review) and also the full install (to replace my 2005). I do make it clear several times that Mandriva 2007 is still pre-release. Sorry if I hurt your feelings with my comparisons! ;) Nope, I'm a Fedora user, couldn't care less what version of Ubuntu you used, just raising a point!
  16. The best way to promote your product :P Not when it breaks your servers in the process.......:P That's not an official Mandriva site, nor is it indicative of any hype. I was referring to the fact that there's documentation on the official Mandriva site.........
  17. Naughty! Sorry, but anyone that knows anything knows that comparing a year old release of one distro, and a current beta of another is a no no. Sorry but somwhere down the line somebody's eventually gonna have to give you stick for comparing 2007RC2 with Ubuntu 5.10, which is fast approaching a year old. Given the pace of change at the moment, Ubuntu 5.10 isn't a valid comparison IMHO!
  18. There is no FlashPlayer 9 for Linux, as yet. Some flash animations may not work properly if you don't have 9. Ok.........thinks of another excuse..........myspace is a social disease.......you heard it here first
  19. Yup generate mass hype.........which always backfires as the whines flock in due to the servers dying or something. Expect drama
  20. Why, is it not working with firefox? Just that most flash sites like myspace, youtube, and google video work fine on my box
  21. Even though Ubuntu doesn't have a centralised control centre, it does have a collection of UI tools, pretty much the same as what is available under a centralised config system. IMHO the true diference between Ubuntu's de-centralised, and Mandriva's centralised tools is a matter of convenience, rather than ease. As tyme says, some GUI tools can be a pain in the backside, especially when you have made manual changes to the config files because the GUI tool can't fulfil your needs, rendering that tool useless for you thereafter. So yeah GUI tools help, but at the same time they can be a hindrance, some times a show stopper as reliabilty is not guaranteed for every scenario.
  22. Pretty sure the norm is: distro-packaged binaries>> /usr upstream sources/binaries>> /opt
  23. Fair enough will get the digital camera out this evening, be warned!!
